How low is too low?

Suppose an escort who advertises offering all the usual, BFE, Erotic Message, etc. has a rate of $200.00 HR (Houston, San Antonio, and Austin areas). Is he low-balling himself? (no pun intended) or is that a normal rate for a newcomer?

I can’t generalize on that one.  Sometimes a newby just doesn’t know the usual going rates.  Or, maybe he’s got rent due and is just posting a special rate to try to make some quick bucks.  

I’d watch for upcharges with a guy who posts an exceptionally low price.

I’ve no idea of what’s “normal’ in this individual and unregulated activity.

Also he may not be “low-balling”. It could be that he’s in need of ready cash and wants a quick, uncomplicated way to earn cash. Or he could be new at this and wants to see how it goes. Or he may have seen higher rates quoted by others, and figured he’d rather have 3-5 ‘regulars’ attracted by a lower rate.

Two further observations.
1. Years ago, I met a guy who asked for a ridiculously low amount. We’d had a passionate afternoon in bed where he did all that I like. He asked for ‘gas money’; I gave him the specified amount and then added $100, saying ‘I want you to treat yourself’ to something you like.

2.  A long time ago, I had several good dates with a blond muscleboy. He quoted an outrageously high amount for our first overnight. I enquired why, and it transpired that he thought I’d want to top him 6-8x in the night.
I explained that I’d buy him dinner and top him before and afterwards, and I like to sleep 8 hours before being sucked off to completion in the morning. He was happy to immediately cut his rate by 70%. He made me very happy too. 😎

I have a provider that I see every now and then.  Our deal is $500 flat fee for whatever we do.  We have done overnights, 6-7 hours in a hotel during the day, sometimes some morning fun followed by going out to lunch and just hanging together for a few hours.

$200 is a bargain for any market. It could be a scam but I think that providers approach the hobby with a range of expectations and motivations. While there are prevalent assumptions about the relationship between cost and product, there are many exceptions. I have met a few providers that have minimal expectations for remuneration (more typical of the real world) and they seem to prioritize chemistry and having a good time over profit. I look at each encounter on its own merits and don’t have a lower limit.

I occasionally get a discounted rate from providers I've seen before, usually because they need the business or some extra cash. When a provider I've never met offers an unusually low rate, however, my first reaction is skepticism. My immediate assumption is either that it's a scam or that the upselling will start the moment we meet. In those situations, I do my homework beforehand, I make my expectations clear and I'm prepared to walk away if the arrangement suddenly changes.

as many do - when I first started I charged slightly below market rate, you need time to build up confidence, get some reviews under your belt and then you can start charging market rate. Clients are typically wary of new guys - it's a gamble to see them as opposed to someone with established presence. 

 

It sounds very normal to me.

One cannot say. Depedns on his goals, needs, or reason for escorting. Or ow many clients he gets. If he gets several per day, or only does it a day a week, then it's fine for him.

Charging too low can get in "bad" clients, though.
