On the flip side to that question, with so many hot guys out there, I'm surprised more middle class and upper middle class men don't offer to hire.

The dilemma works both ways. There are men who would like to have sex with hot men and have the means to pay, but phycholigically can't accept paying for sex.

I get that. It was a hurdle for me because I thought "Am I that ugly now ...?" But now I don't worry about it, and it's such a timesaver.

I think they might be inclined to participate if they could easily sign up just to get sucked. But in reality, the client will ask to be touched, sucked, or kissed as well.

You have to get hard and stay hard for that. A lot of our clients are not inspiring for that.

You'd have to really be some pathological sex addict for that, and for most guys, the novelty would ware off very quickly.

Just trying to clarify your last sentence.  Are you saying that escorts who can get and stay hard for clients you deem "not inspiring" are "pathological sex addicts?"

People enter sex work for mostly desperation/financial reasons. if a person has means to earn money without it, they won't do it. Yes, some do get into it since they like sex, but this is a minority.

It's more common amongst LGBT people, partly due to marginalisation and an more open/prevalent sex culture than cis straight people. A young guy who is good-looking and has a big dick might hook up a lot, have friends into sex work and tag along, or they get paid during casual encounters and think it's a good way to do make money.  This setting is far less common amongst straight guys of the same description.

And just because one is LGBT, doesn't mean they are or should be sex positive or have a favourable attitude to sex work.

Doesn't everybody go to work in desperation or financial reasons?  Whether it's to keep a roof over your head or to keep living your millionaire lifestyle?  I've never known anyone under the age of sixty who wasn't desperate to keep their income.    Maybe professional athletes.

Sex work is different. Everybody does work for money, but then many do sex work if they have no other choice. That's common and arguably normal in LGBT people, especially if they are lacking rights or job opportunities. People can get a gig economy job if they are desperate or stack shelves in a supermarket.

I'm frankly a bit surprised how many people who post on this forum are clearly biased against both sex workers and clients.  The assumption that escorts cannot get any other type of job is silly.  The assumption that all clients are so repulsive that escorts must dislike working is just silly.  I'm not saying that those things aren't true some of the time (though, frankly, an escort with an extremely limited sense of which clients are worthy should look for a different line of work), but these stereotypes seem straight out of some trashy movie from decades ago:  Junkies desperate for a client so they can get their next fix, and physically and personally repugnant clients whose only opportunity for sexual intimacy is by paying for it.

I confess I sometimes go into sexual market-brain mode at the gym, lamenting how many guys seem clueless about the lucrative opportunities they’re forgoing. Particularly because their entry level could be eased with strip club stage work and personal boundary prerogative in the booths. Or I could happily accept low-level foreplay for sensitive breaking in.

Then I get to a pulley station where my projection bias toward normalizing the trade suddenly hits a wall. If consensus isn’t established by everyone wearing “Sex Work Is Work” on their Lululemon, while a few dissenters sport “I Lift, Therefore I Am,” the fantasy rather falls apart and whey powder costs remain their burden.

People who enter the trade often do it out of no other options. This si common in LGBT circles. That's just a fact. The idea people just really like sex and enter it is not widespread.

People who become escorts do so for all sorts of reasons.  Many have other options but those options may pay much less and/or restrict their flexibility to do other things they want to do.

Not a fact - just your opinion. Neither of us have data to support our opinions but I’ve met several who would challenge your assertion. They do it for a variety of reasons.

Why someone admits they do it and why they actually do are two different things. And it's not like they can't get any other type of job. But the ones with overt contempt for clients, especially if they don't behave exactly as the provider wants, are clearly in this for the money. Either not skilled enough to get it another way,  or too lazy to work a 40 hour week of taxing labor.

I'm sure there are many, as you suggest that enjoy the work, much like a massage therapist without extras would. Providing a good service to an appreciative customer can be its own reward. But that doesn't change paragraph 1.

Never underestimate the self-loathing that gets beaten into the psyches of LGBTQ people growing up, and then projected outward. ☹️

I understand that.  I guess what puzzles me is why someone would bother to become an active member of a site where the main topic of discussion is something they find derisible.  Maybe they just get off on being antagonistic?

Upvoted for use of the word 'derisible'.  I bow to your erudition, sir.

Yes, it is a fact. Look, not everywher eis your socially liberal CA bubble. Sex work still has stigma despite moder sexual openness/positivity. It's still not something the everyday person would do or choose too.

In certain sections of the LGBT community, especially in trans people, it is common due to marginalisation in employment opportunities. one can argue there is less need now that trans peopel have more workplace rights.

You're all sounding like these redpill oafs online who think most high school girls are on OF. no, they are not.

Judging off fellow gay people also is a skewed sample. Cruising, cottaging, and sex clubs have longbeen norms in LGBT culture, and even then not everybody is as horny as others. The OP mentioned looking at random hot guys in the street and asking why they don't consider escorting. He doesn't know them, or even if they are gay or not. And even if they were, they have no real reason to just up and do it. They have their own personal values about it, and that sex work, whilst more talked about these days still isn't this widely accepted thing. Again, the world isn't your liberal bubble in whatever US state you live in. Because some online influencers say they had an OF circle in high school (which is very fucking rare by any stretch), that doesn't apply to all people everywhere. There is no inherent rule that a gay man must be sex positive. Or even if they are, they may not want to enter sex work. The OP has the right to his desires or thoughts, but i hold the right to mine in response to his points he posts on a public forum.

If you think that a lack of job opportunties in certain sections of the LGBT communnity doesn't create a higher proportion of sex work, or there is a more open sexual culture and hs been for decades nay centuries, i dunno what to say. But oh...your friends and acquaintances do it. fair enough....

XXX or it's overblown and pople project from their own bubbles.

Most who post here are LGBT. And sex work is more normalised in LGBT circles,  for a variety of reasons. and evne then, not every random dude in the street who IS gay (the OP cannot tell who is or not) may have the inclination or will to do so. Outside of LGBT circles, sex work isn't normalised and still is niche. Youtubers or influencers online don't represent the masses.

It seems like in order to make your point you are trying to twist some of our words.  Yes, the thread was begun with the premise that maybe if these random hot men knew they could get paid to have an orgasm that a lot more of them would choose to do so.  Some of our responses have acknowledged that fantasy while giving a similar reality check that you are -- not everyone wants to do sex work (which is so obvious that it barely needs mentioning).  However, it isn't logical to go from that truth and the fact that for many people the idea of sex work is still taboo to arguing that no one would choose sex work if they had other viable employment options.  This has nothing to do with living in a bubble.  Also, this site is "company of men" and descended from previous sites that were devoted to discussing gay male escorts so our points of view are naturally informed by what it's like living as a gay man.  I have no idea what the life of a straight female escort is like.
