+ jeezopete Posted Thursday at 11:10 PM Posted Thursday at 11:10 PM Is there anything you agree with or would add to this list? Remember wanting to be a grown-up *so* badly when you were a kid? Well, not all of adulting is as glamorous as we once dreamed. Reddit user Known-Balance14 recently asked, "What’s an adult problem nobody prepared you for?" Here are the responses that are more relatable than you might like to admit: 1."Having to figure out what to eat every single day — forever." 2."How fast time goes by the older you get." 3."No one prepared me for my friends slowly becoming too busy for me when I wasn't yet too busy for them." 4."Chores, the never-ending chores." 5."You can love someone deeply and still have to walk away from them." 6."Your aging parents." 7."That random body parts hurt (and sometimes fail) for no apparent reason." 8."Menopause." 9."Tax and endless bills. Everyone wants a piece of you." 10."Constant decisions, thousands of them a day, all day, every day. If you make the wrong one, the consequences could be catastrophic. But no one knows what they're doing. We're all winging it and hoping we do the right thing." 11."Getting back pain from literally just sleeping." 12."Having fewer and fewer people in your life. People die, move away, marry, disappear, etc." 13."My gosh, once you buy a house, there is literally always something to fix. I had no idea how much constant repainting, power washing, HVAC guy calling, drain clearing, and carpet cleaning I'd have to do for the rest of my life." 14."Having to arrange your first funeral for someone else." 15."No summer breaks." 16."How much a mattress costs." 17."The level of tiredness you can achieve." 18."Everything in the house breaks at once before you get paid." 19."How very long it is until retirement. You start so energized and willing to work such an extreme schedule, and you give it all you have and beyond for the sake of the company, and your career. Day in and day out, for so very long." 20."Managing credit. I got into a whole lot of trouble because I was never taught about credit. Given the fact that they throw 19% credit cards at newly minted 18-year-olds is wild." 21.And finally, "Adults haven't figured it out. Nobody knows what they're doing." + azdr0710 Posted Thursday at 11:37 PM Posted Thursday at 11:37 PM (edited) Of course, every time my parents tried to teach me something an adult should know, I'd shrug off the lesson because I was never going to be an adult. Edited Thursday at 11:48 PM by azdr0710 + FrankR, + sync and + Charlie 3

I agree with everything listed. Two that I would add are: The danger of self-doubt The danger of trying to please everyone + Charlie 1

Whoisyourdaddy Posted Friday at 09:18 AM Posted Friday at 09:18 AM Buying a large home with a pool and hot tub when I was young was a bad idea: maintenance, utility bills, and terrible roommates, among other issues. It also didn't help that I'm on the spectrum. mtaabq 1

My pediatrician took us only until 18. So the summer back from my first year at college I had my first physical with my new GP. My father didn't think to warn me.
+ purplekow Posted Friday at 08:49 PM Posted Friday at 08:49 PM (edited) I am not sure a rectal exam on an eighteen year old is a usual part of a routine physical exam. I would not blame your Dad for not warning you but I do look askance at the doctor, unless you had a referable complaint. On the other hand, a testicular examination is warranted given the peak ages for testicular cancer is teens to thirties. Edited Friday at 08:50 PM by purplekow
