I don't know how you guys can afford to dabble in this indulgence. After paying my mortgage, car payment, other financial obligations and retirement I got very little left to pursue this endeavor (Believe me I wish I could!). Some of you must be pretty financially fortunate. Lol

Money is a limiting factor for some.  I had a visitor last night who mentioned that a client of his lives in a large home on the mountain here in Palm Springs and that person has several other luxury homes.  Clearly that person is not worried about money the same way I am.  I, on the other hand, have a nice home and am prudent with my hiring and other expenses, so money is a concern but not a total limitation.   For others, this hobby is a treat in which to be indulged infrequently or for special occasions.  

We all have financial issues, some are more pressing than others.  As with other indulgences, your ability to enjoy them is dependent on your individual circumstances and priorities.

Truthfully, I can’t afford to dabble but I do so anyway for my mental and physical health. After a particularly good scene I’m on a high for the next day or two and the release re-charges and re-energizes me. And there’s the added benefit of enjoying the company of naked men whom I consider to be beautiful. That is its own reward. I’m not an attractive man, but with careful vetting I have been able to find men who will work to make me feel like a human being and a sexual being. So I cut back on discretionary spending, save my money, and invest in 2 hours with a man who will make me feel like a stud.

At this point, it's a strain, and therefore I'm very cautious with my hiring. Like everything else in the world though,  you have to pay for quality, but it's still nice to find a bargain when you can.

I think of it as any other part of my entertainment budget. I don’t go on expensive trips, and don’t spend money on alcohol or drugs. I used to travel for business,  so I had a hotel and meals paid for, so I could reallocate more of my spending money for 'fun'. Sadly, that's ended for now.

But I still like to eat out and get massages ('legitimate' and otherwise). I wouldn't go into debt for this hobby, but if I got an inheritance,  I'd definitely dabble more and share the wealth...especially with those providers who I already like that haven't tried to get me for everything they could.

Exactly.  There’s very little that I do in my life that is for me alone and indulging in this hobby is one of them.  I feel great after a session and always look forward to the next one.  I’m not wealthy but my budget always takes into consideration the physical needs that being with another man satisfies.

I'm not rich either but hiring providers is my preference with the extra money I do have. My one sibling goes to a ton of concerts, my other sibling goes to a ton of sports events. So providers is my choice entertainment. 😁

So true, so very true.  I have many much younger coworkers and friends who earn way less than me who are willing to shell out >$10K to chase after pop concerts (e.g. Taylor Swift, K-pop craze), paying for hotels and flights just to see someone they can't even touch.

And then I have friends who spend a fortune on Rolex, designer fashion, jewelry, handbags, etc. just to show the world they can afford it.

And then there are those who invest in expensive hobbies (golf, sailing, race cars, aviation, horse riding, etc.).  The list goes on and on.

To me, spending a few hundred dollars once in a while to have an ecstatic + euphoric one-on-one experience is 100X more worthwhile than all of the above.

It's a matter of priorities and perceived values.

As a wise person once told me, "The money you earn is not really yours until the moment you spend it," I allow myself to enjoy controlled, carefully calculated indulgences.

Yes, I absolutely cannot afford to hire but I do anyway (although I have not in over a year)… I briefly had a second part-time job that made hiring a bit more financially feasible, but that ended and I have not hired since (although the primary reason I haven’t been able to hire is time/opportunity). All that said, I do enjoy perusing this board and RentMen (and fantasizing) almost as much as the act itself.

Yeah it's interesting. You definitely don't have to be rich to do this hobby, but like you alluded to it really depends on what your other financial obligations are in addition to your income. I work full time, have apartment rent, car payment, and student loan debt. But i am in fact fortunate i have a fairly well paying job that also abuses the hell out of me, but pays over time for it luckily. So i have some extra money to do this hobby sometimes, but i do have a limit i can't go past. I'm envious of others who can hire much more frequently then i can too.

Long as I'm working and not between projects, i can hire a handful of times a month for an hour or two each, depending on how much extra hours i work. Any time I'm not working or not doing as many hours, this hobby is the first thing i cut back on or pause doing. I know though there are clients here hiring for multiple over nights, weekends, or traveling and taking providers with them for days/weeks at a time. And that's unfathomable to me at my level lol. From both perspectives of having that much money as a client, and from the perspective of being hot enough that someone would spend that much money on you. Attractive people truly live in a different reality than the rest of us.

As part of a couple, all the things mentioned are covered by two incomes. We're not wealthy and don't come from money. But as others have noted, we skip a lot of the frivolous spending that seems widespread. We do see concerts and theater but within a budget - we didn't see Beyoncé or Madonna because those tickets were crazy. Living in NYC, there are a lot of great performers who are not household names and can be seen for a fraction of the price of a stadium show; we stick to those. We both cook, so we only eat out or order in once a week on average. We take two vacations a year; one international and one to P Town.

On average, we hire once or twice a month. We also have a ceiling for an hourly rate, which is $400. If a guy charges more than that, we don't hire him.  

But we're also fortunate that the economic instability hasn't affected us much. Except for inflation, which no one can avoid.

As a single working man, all the things mentioned are covered because I don't have a boyfriend or spouse to drain the household account.  I have a middle class wage and inherited nothing, but invested wisely in my 20s and continue to maximize Roth contributions to avoid future taxes. But as others have noted, each person has his priorities.  While I do fly only First or Business Class, I choose to drive a used 15-year old car and often stay in the cheapest room in a nice hotel or cheapest cabin on a cruise ship.  I buy the cheapest mobile phone with a long battery life and use it for years before replacing it.  I don't pay for computers or internet to use at home, going to my local public library instead.  I prioritize live theater if I can get good seats, but skip motion pictures and music concerts as they are not my priority choice of entertainment.  Living in Las Vegas, cost of living for home ownership, utilities, taxes, and restaurants is affordable away from the tourist areas.  I rarely cook, so I avoid the high prices and food waste of buying fresh groceries for one and eat most meals in restaurants.  I never use overpriced food delivery.  I limit my vacations to no more than 1 per month, about 1/3 of which are international trips.  My one go-to spot is Ft Lauderdale every winter.

On average, I hire several times per month. I also have a ceiling for an hourly rate, which is $300 for escort and $180 for massage in the US.  Internationally, my cieling is lower.  If a guy charges more than that, I don't hire him.

But I'm also fortunate to have benefited from the economic boom of the past 2 years. The roughest time was the high inflation of 2021-2023, but I was able to avoid some of that by owning my own house instead of renting.

I think that has bolstered a number of portfolios. Owning assets over the past few years has helped. I’d hire more if the selection were better.

I just tallied my unexpected 30-month portfolio growth, an amount that exceeds the monetary ‘nest egg’ retirement goals I had defined previously, against my current reality of hiring basically only the same fellow. Without dipping into the ‘floor nut’ I can fund 1,000 sessions at this point. My pension income more than adequately covers travel and lodgings costs to get to him.

In the meantime I just splurged on DeevidAI for personal use non-X-rated image-to-video creation … he only does stills and keeps discretion extremely tight … something my frugal mindset would not have ordinarily indulged.
