+ 7829V Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Curious if anyone here has come across this kind of situation and what your experience was. I was chatting with a guy on Sniffies who said he needed help paying rent and was looking for gen. I asked his hourly rate and he said full service for $120, and that he needed the money by 10:30 AM to pay rent. I was at work, so I couldn’t meet up anyway, but part of me was wondering if it could be legit… and another part was thinking it might be a scam or some kind of setup. What stood out is that his pics seemed pretty normal, just an average guy, not overly polished or model-type, which actually made it feel more real. Have you guys seen similar situations? Are these usually legit people trying to make ends meet, or is this a common red flag?

+ Jamie21 Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago You dodged a bullet. His ‘urgent need’ would have resulted in you paying him full rate upon booking and then him disappearing. That’s what I think would have happened had you sought to book him. Don’t hire guys off Sniffies. They are either scammers or are downright unprofessional. You’ll get conned or you’ll end up disappointed. soloyo215, + FrankR, thomas and 4 others 5 2
mtaabq Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I’ll concur with @Nightowl and @Jamie21. With just about ANY hook-up app I’d be suspicious and you probably did dodge a bullet. It has been my experience that the “urgency” is part of the scam. (This I know from experience.) If you’re going to hire better to get referrals from CoM members and forums. SoFlGuy and + 7829V 2
DMonDude Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Stuff like that can go either way. Absolutely could be a simple scam like others have said, or also could just be a guy who's not even a provider in the professional sense. Just some rando trying to make quick cash to pay his rent cause it's so much more popularized now to casually monetize your sex life. You very well might get some cheap action out of this guy but that has it's own bag of things to watch out for and that could go wrong. You might be opening yourself up to pestering "can you spot me $xx?" texts, funding someone's drug habit, opening yourself up to targeting if they get in a desperate enough financial or other situation, or otherwise getting dragged into their troubles. Yes, I've been told that they need haircuts for a job interview, food, rent, new sneakers, milk for their babies, car payment and find a stay to stay for the night, among other things. I've heard it all. 7 hours ago, 7829V said: Are these usually legit people trying to make ends meet, or is this a common red flag? No, they are not usually legit. It is a common red flag to me. 10 times out of 10, I get the whole story and/or the real intent by keeping the conversation going, and it's never legit. In my experience, quality providers don't do that (not right away, at least). + JamesB, + Jamie21 and + 7829V 2 1

Speaking from experience. For many years, I avoided hiring "pros' but sought out (on Craigslist and then Seeking) guys who were non-pros but who were looking for someone to help them out financially in exchange for sex. I quickly learned to identify and avoid guys who were desperate for money for the reasons DMonDude describes - constant pestering for more to deal with a never-ending series of "surprise" financial catastrophes -- the phone bill, the rent, tuition, all of which were totally foreseeable to a responsible person. I instead tried to meet up with guys with steady incomes that paid their basics but not much more. A little discretionary income made their lives a lot more enjoyable, and I was happy to provide it. With Craigslist long gone and Seeking kind of a mess, I decided to avoid wading through 'gen' postings (or even worse, trying to guess who might be interested in a gen older man) on grindr and sniffies. Now I just hire professionals off RM. I have no complaints about the change, but I do miss those innocent (if that's the right word) young men I met in the old days. + JamesB Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Whenever I hear that sense of “urgency,” my first instinct is to assume it is a scam. Creating pressure to act quickly is a classic tactic, it pushes people to make decisions without thinking things through or asking the right questions. SecretProvider, + 7829V and + azdr0710 3

It's risky because the platforms shut you down when people get offended you will only fuck them for $ or think you are a scam and you lose access to that market (and also to use it for personal reasons) @7829V The guys asking for urgent amounts - 100% always either a scam or a situation that is not pleasant (drug addict situation). Stick with professionals. As the old saying goes - you get what you pay for. + 7829V 1

You are being asinine for no reason. Be kind. Was just pointing out the fact that there are SOME legit guys on there. Just not the 'urgent' ones. Have a great day! + 7829V 1
TxDaddyBear Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Being a Sniffies user, I would never give money (or time) to anyone asking for Gen and expect a good time. EEK! Stick to Rent Men or Rent Masseur, and you won't get scammed. Either the gen dude is trying to scam you or he won't be the Pretty Pretty Princess you imagine him to be. I am a provider, and I use Sniffies just to get laid and be sleazy, not get clients. + 7829V 1
