He quoted me $350….more than I was expecting or budgeted for…. more than what I usually pay for 'this hobby'.  He smiled and told me he was definitely worth it

No disrespect @Ali Gator but in my view, you’re being too cheap. And the only person who will suffer here is you.

You’ve dreamed and thought of this man a lot. Now he’s available and you put obstacles in your own path.

I feel you will bitterly regret not taking the glorious opportunity offered to you.

More nonsense.

Who cares if $350 is in the market for 'plenty of places' ? Doesn't concern me. $250-$300 is in the market for where he is now. You don't seem to understand the basic concepts of business. Why bother addressing the rest of your nonsense ?

The only nonsense here is you walking away when the stars lined up perfectly in your favor. Can’t wait to see your next fantasy post.

I guess not everyone lives within a budget and has plenty of 'fun money' to spend. Unfortunately, at this time, I don't. I don't consider sticking within a budget a 'putting an obstacle in my path', I consider it being financially responsible.

Last year when shopping for a new car, I had my 'dream car' in mind of what I wanted. Alas, after doing my research and visiting the dealership, the price of the dream car didn't match what I could afford, so I settled for something more practical and affordable for my monthly payments.

I got over it.

I think you should post more often on the Personal Finance forum and share more of your solid financial advice with us over there. You are a financial wiz.

So he's both a sexual fantasy fuck AND a neighbor who you know and care about. BUT spending an extra $50 is unreasonable ??? 🤔

My bullshit-meter is going off the charts.

Sure. Lesson #1: Don’t spend four pages hyping a fantasy guy and then pass when the price tag is basically a rounding error. Lesson #2 will drop after I see The Wizard of Oz at the Sphere this afternoon. I’ve got Glinda the Good Witch VIP tickets. All courtesy of my passive income.

Yeah, but the difference between your dream car and the one you ended up buying was (I’m guessing) $thousands whereas the difference between your scorching-hot and nice to boot neighbor you’ve been fantasizing about for years and Joe Schmoe escort is $50-100.

I can understand being on a budget, but come on, for a hundred bucks you’re passing on a fantasy-cum-true escort who will shatter your mind like a ton of dynamite in a window factory?!?!  You could save $138 just by skipping the detailing, going to the local car wash, and doing the vacuuming yourself.  Why the burning need for a full detail?  I would drive around in the vehicular version of Pigpen for a romp with the scorching-hot neighbor I’ve been lusting after for years, but apparently you have different priorities.

Sound advice. Expect no less from you.

Not even $100. It's really $50 difference by his own account.

Perhaps one should consider asking him if he would do the detailing and do you for $400.  You were expecting to pay $100 plus tip, assuming $ 20 dollars for the tip, and you are okay with $300 for the session, $420 total.  Split the difference with him and have him do you and your car for $450.   I would also tell him, you are definitely worth it.  He left the door open, Walk on through.

In situations like this, I frequently consider that I am going to die with at least that much money left to my heirs, so where is that money better spent.  I almost always pick me.  Those bastards can earn it themselves as I did.  You are talking about $2 dollars a day for a month.  Skip those lattes and go for the cream.

@Ali Gator sometimes the unknown is more attractive and captivating than the known.  Now that it is clear your neighbour would have no qualms meeting up with you, is it possible the attraction may have dimmed on your side?  Or, could it be that you have some reservations and concerns that go beyond the donation amount?  Perhaps the possibility of awkwardness exists for you, and you anticipated he would not be open to the arrangement for similar reasons?  In any case, each of us operates according to our own priorities.  I would have no right to judge your decision either way, even if it is for purely financial considerations.  Maybe it's for the best that you remain platonic neighbours.  There's nothing wrong with that.  And nothing wrong with sharing all that you've shared here.
