Actual experiences with legal problems using RM?

Recommended Posts

The common refrain on this site is don't do this if you have a lot to lose, which seems smart, but personally I'd like to get a better sense of quantified risk.

Has anyone actually experienced legal issues with hiring/meeting established providers on RM? Especially in blue state large cities (SF, LA, Vegas, NYC, Chicago)?

There's really no true way to stay completely anonymous. Currently I'm not hiring because other than people saying the risk is very low, I really don't have a good sense of how low.  I feel safer hiring compared to random hookups but the risk of my life being nearly ruined is impossible to ignore. I'm interested in hearing about any actual real life experiences on this point -- thanks in advance.

As long as you have your head on your shoulders, there's not a ton of risk in my opinion. Nothing revolving this is 100% guaranteed, but tons of people here have been hiring for decades. Overall, just stick to well reviewed guys and you should be okay. Avoid new guys without reviews, because those are going to be the kind of guys who you'd be likely to get more trouble from. That's not to say that new guys should be avoided at all costs, but if you're risk averse then that makes the most sense.

Sometimes men will think with their penis instead of their brains, and that's where you sometimes land yourself into trouble.

It’s not just this hobby that could ruin people. I think of alcohol. I sometimes consume way too much, talk too much to the wrong people, and after I sober up, thank God nothing untoward came of it. Sometimes when I’m ignorant of some new thing I run across on the internet, I stumble upon things that if my browser history became public, I’d be likely ruined. Hell, even legit legal porn in your browser can undo you depending on your line of work. It’s not just escorting that brings with it risk. It is good to be aware though. I tell Providers I’m out with to say that we’re either dating or married. It normally is sufficient if anyone is nosey enough to ask.

Why the question re blue state cities (as opposed to red state ones)? Not trying to get political but are you more worried about one category than the other?

Las Vegas is not in a blue state.  To answer your question, I've hired my share of male escorts in Las Vegas, but usually hire masseurs.  When we get a blue majority in the legislature or city council they begin closing the massage parlors and proposing laws to further restrict sex workers, but thankfully we have enough former and current sex workers in the legislature to keep some of the legal brothers open.  (This post is not to argue politics, but to answer the question of legal hiring experience in Las Vegas).

The chance of legal issues is vanishingly small. There is no law prohibiting you from accessing the website, and there is nothing illegal about compensating an adult for their time. It would be very hard for someone to prove anything else happened.

You asked about legal problems.  Apart from a couple of stories I've read about online (i.e., no personal knowledge), I think that risk is very low.

What seems to be a larger risk is extortion or, at least, attempts at extortion.  If you have a lot to lose if your hiring habit becomes known to others, then someone attempting to extort you puts you at risk.  That's why you'll see some here advocating the use of a burner phone and never meeting anyone where they live.  I didn't take either of those precautions and never had anyone try to extort me, but I did almost hire someone whom I subsequently read about here who did threaten to expose clients to their families.  I felt like I dodged a bullet there even though I don't think that being exposed to colleagues or family would have caused any problems for me other than whatever gossip people might have engaged in following the disclosure.

Actual cases of legal action against someone hiring an escort fall into two categories.

#1 Election years where a "family values" candidate wishes to make a mark.

#2 Election years where an opposing party wishes to being down an incumbent by exposing his hiring habits.

Hoping this comment isn't viewed as being too political. I think not..because these issues aren't specific to either of the two major political parties in the US. It's just the way things are here in the US and how the laws of prostitution tend to be applied.

Yes, is a blue city in a purple state.

This issue occasionally comes up. Last time it was about guys hiring young women at a highway motel through a shady website. What can possibly go wrong?

I know of at least 3 escorts who got arrested in Las Vegas for prostitution. I don't know of any other place where someone was arrested.

@José Soplanucas (under his old name) tried to warn us about Honolulu but I can't find the thread. Unfortunately, he didn't provide any kind of details.

hookups (free sex)  involve no legal problems but when dealing with strangers we always take risks.

One thing that makes me especially hesitant is that solicitation itself is technically illegal, regardless of what acts did or did not take place. And with the seeming expectation that things are arranged over text, that could be easy to prove. I realize there are apps and strategies to distance one's identity from texting but even then it would not be difficult to trace.

I appreciate the comments -- so far, it seems no direct experiences and one alluded to possible past issue.

I use a Burner app that is not in my name, and I can delete it from my phone. I recently spoke to a provider who travels internationally. He backs his "work" phone up to the cloud and then hard resets it before customs.

I don't know your demography but it is extremely unlikely that you would even be of interest to law enforcement. The reality is that the police target poor Johns and massage parlors and other places where it's easy to do mass arrests. They also target sex workers who are poor and marginalized. Given the breadth of this group, if people were running into issues, I suspect we'd all know.

Two men are facing misdemeanor prostitution charges after one of them rented a hotel room and called police...

Bad things happen. Always keep your wits about you. A situation can go from making out to handcuffs quick if the hire is off in the head.

That being said, I have hired for a long time. Only twice have things gone sideways. Neither of which resulted in charges but they did involve drugs.

The long and the short of it is this: you both have a lot to lose but if one's lot is much bigger, then the other will want a part of it.

This is why I hire guys who are quality. If they have as much to lose as you, then you'll likely have minor issues.

That's surprising to me. I assume they were men? Do you know any of the details about how that came to happen? I would guess perhaps initiated by complaints from hotels on the Strip?

This is very unusual in Michigan and especially in Royal Oak which has a large gay community.   This hotel is used by a lot of escorts so I'm sure the cops were already aware of what often goes on there.  Sounds to me like this was a hire gone bad and the cops were called.

Overall I've had very positive experiences hiring on RM. There have been a few instances where the guy showed up and I could tell right away it was not going to work out for me. I usually gave them a "donation" and sent them on their way. The problem with RM now is that they are charging clients anywhere from $9.95 to $19.95.month for a "Premium Account" just to be able to place a review on an escort. Not good, as it now makes me wary of just who is writing the reviews.  For some escorts, I suspect they are getting their buddy escorts to write them reviews. Apparently, you can still have a free account on RM, and access reviews. Not sure if you can access the review writer, however.

I have some friends who "worry about" my escort time on RM. They read these horror stories about escorts who do bad things. I have to remind them that these guys are businessmen, at heart. Why jeopardize their careers and reputations by being less than professional? In these internet days, and with sites like this one, Facebook, TikTok etc, word travels faster than the speed of light. I've been able to circumvent RM reviews and get the word out about escorts who are less than honest about their profile descriptions and overall demeanor. I have had many guys reach out and thank me.

I've also dabbled a bit on Doublelist. Have had some amazing, free times, mostly with uber horney straight married guys who just need to chill and get their nut. A few have stayed in touch and we've re-met. Only once did it get weird, with this one guy. Bi latino in his 30s. He had lost his job, during COVID, and I began to help him out. It soon escalated to him needing a donation for each visit. As I upped my requirements, so did he the cost. I had to end it. But I sure do miss him. The most amazing ass and foreskin. Mmmm.

Some of us have a lot to lose but we also have our own risk/reward tolerances and vet the escort as much as they're vetting us as clients.

I had one bad experience where an escort I hired to my house for the first time saw my full name on a credit card laying on my table in the hallway. He found me on LinkedIn and started a small extortion scheme because I own a couple companies and he was able to find me in the news, etc.  Upon researching him more on here, I wasn't the first person he tried that with apparently. It was easily nipped in the bud by "my people" (LOL) but it could have gotten out of hand. I'm much more apprehensive these days based on that experience.

I always look for reviews.  If you have over a dozen good reviews, that is typically a solid way to vet people. Yes, some reviews can be fake or whatever, but the entire rating (Uber, Amazon, etc.) thing really works. That's why it has proliferated into almost every aspect of our lives. So honestly, if you have 50+ 4.9 reviews, you're fucking awesome.  I even know one escort who has 120+ reviews and every single one is 5.0.  Maintaining a 5.0 is extremely hard as you can't please everyone, but there are a handful out there who manage to do just that.  Those are the experts at their craft and worth every single dollar.

The worst experience I had was with a provider last xmas.  We were at a very trendy food court, he stepped into the bathroom and assume snorted a ton of something.  By the time he came out he was like a zombie in the middle of the food court.  I was like wtf?  How am I going to handle this, thought I was going to have to dial 911, and then what was going to happen etc.  It took me like an hour to get him out of there.  It was horrible to see, as prior to the pandemic I had seen him many times and he was an athlete.

I'd probably do drugs too if someone took me to a food court

Moderator note: so this thread isn’t about your worst experience….It’s about legal issues using/hiring from RentMen. Let’s keep it to that. Back on topic, and thanks!

I believe my wrists have just been slapped! 🤭
