A few days ago, a neighbor who is twenty years younger than I am said  to me, " Well, at our age..." and I interrupted, "What age is that?" When he told me his age, I said, "When you were in kindergarten, I was in working on a Ph.D.."  He gave me a surprised look, and said, "But you don't look any older than I am!" He made my day 😊

when I am told that, I just say that I moisturize!

I'm just curious about how it will end! cancer? heart? dementia? what else?

Unfortunately there are lots of other things that could happen. Read the other day about a guy who died of the WestNile virus three weeks after he retired. He might have been bitten by an infected mosquito at his retirement celebrations.

I see this as my last hurrah. While I've still got (reasonable) health, I'll make the best of it. Hit the big 70 this year. I'm probably having more sex now than I've ever had - quality is another thing. Gen Z's appear to be a little blind  - or just have poor night vision. I've been declared to have a "hot ass" twice in the past two weeks. Not a bad ego boost.

On the other hand, I'm spending the weekend with a Holter monitor because my GP heard a heart murmur. Such is life.

I ran into an old friend on my morning walk a couple of days ago; she and her husband are a year older than I am--late 70s; time is running out and we are--to borrow a term from business and tax--wasting assets; better enjoy what we have and do the to-dos we want to do sooner rather than later; and, @b2bf, hope nothing serious is going on with your heart.

Thanks for the concern. Canadian socialised medicine: blood test & ECG in 24hrs., echo cardiogram in 48hrs., another ECG and holter monitor this week, and a nuclear stress test next week. I'm in good hands.

Hopefully, very quickly...as with an old  light bulb blown in the blink of an eye.

Modern science has extended the normal life expectancy way beyond the normal span for most developed countries.  I'm not sure this is a good thing for everyone equally.  What is the point of being around if you're barely mobile and not enjoying life.  Sitting around in God's waiting room?  Countries with euthanasia options are ahead of the curve.  Canada is looking more appealing each year.

Maturation? Not much I can do to stop it. I see “old people” only to realize that I went to high school with them. My friends are becoming grandparents. I have to get up more during the night to pee. I fear suffering; I do not wish to suffer and have put language to that effect in my medical directive. I have not planned well for retirement and made questionable choices which will probably bite me in the ass. Truthfully, I’m ready to be done. It’s not going to get any better. Yet, I continue to get up and face the day. I need to take care of my parents. Everything happens for a reason. Just wish I knew what my “reason” is.

Short answer to the OP: I’m not.

For me, it’s happening anyway….no matter what I do.

So I focus on having an enjoyable life and I do something nice every single day.
