+ purplekow Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Thanks are wonderful. But money pays the bills. One time donation in the donation section at the top of the page or a more ongoing contribution if you so desire will keep this site going through perilous times. + db66, + Charlie, + Jamie21 and 1 other 2 2

Anthony Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago 14 hours ago, RadioRob said: Greetings folks... As you might have noticed, this site has been offline since around mid-day Tuesday. Our prior hosting provider decided that they are unable to continue hosting our website and had ended service to us. Unfortunately they did not provide any notification to me about this decision and I was forced to move the site to a new server without any sort of heads up. This includes arranging for the new hosting company, configuring the new server to meet the technical requirements, getting a copy of our current data, restoring that data (over 300GB of files), recovering the database (over 18.5 million records in that database taking up 11GB of space for the DB alone), and reconfiguring the software itself to run in the new environment. While migrating there was also some technical issues that I ran into that required me to coordinate with Invision's technical support team. So that back and forth added additional time to the mix as well. And to pile on further… all of this occurred while I'm traveling for my day job. So I've been doing this while in a hotel in between doing my day job on the road. There are most likely several other things that will need to be fixed still and I'm working through them. For example, email may only be partially working. I still need to setup things like SPF and DKIM for the new server so our emails don't flag as spam. There are other settings that might need to be redone to work in the new server as well that I'm not thinking about yet. (As you might have imagined, I've not had much sleep during this whole process.) But anyway... you get the idea. No... we're not going anywhere! This was a minor setback but we'll continue to move forward. Thank you all for your understanding and support! Rob Explains why I got this ribbon on the email I received from this website. LOL you are in a hotel. Are you seeing a provider? 😂

mike carey Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Our brief hiatus gave me pause to consider what I had gained from this site. A lot of insights, a place to talk about an eclectic range of subjects, a considerable number of people who I regarded as acquaintances whom I valued, in the moment if not more widely. Some of those are people who I would be happy to continue to have some sort of continuing relationship with outside the forums, but while the forums continued there was no urgency to build separate connections. I'm not saying that I'll be contacting people left and right, or even for the moment that I'll contact anyone, but as was the case when the forum seemed on the edge of disappearing when Daddy died, I was forced to consider what there was here that was of such value that I'd want to try to preserve at least vestiges of it. It's something some of you may have already thought over these past few days, and those of you who have not, may want to do so now. I hope that anything I do turns out to be an unnecessary precaution, but I'd rather make the choice now when I can than later regret not doing it while I had the chance. + Charlie, 56harrisond and jimbosf 2 1
ArchwayAlex Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Thanks for me personally. Given the nature of the internet, theoretically the site could be hosted anywhere, and preferably you selected a domicile where this won't happen again. ( i.e so you don't have to repeat your work)
