+ Lucky Posted March 11 Posted March 11 (edited) Yes, I know that everyone here is not a US resident, so this thread is not for them. But I read today that Rosie O'Donnell has moved to Ireland and Elaine DeGeneris has moved to England. Of course, I wondered why. It gets too darn cold in those places. Recently I was reading the Uruguay thread and it seemed like a nice place to live, except then @TrutthBtold said they didn't have the best medical care that old folks need. So, maybe there is something wrong with every place. I love Bangkok...in early January. Otherwise it is too hot ad humid. Plus, I don't speak Thai. I could go to Rio but I don't speak Portuguese. Do I have to move to an English-speaking country? Not that I am moving anyway, but I do love to fantasize about it. If I had to pick only one place, it would be Manhattan. And that's in the US! But I don't have the money for that. Say, does this forum have a GoFundMe section? 😊 Edited March 11 by Lucky + claym, pubic_assistance, NJF and 4 others 1 6
+ Charlie Posted March 11 Posted March 11 If I remember correctly, the only language you speak fluently is English, so why not Australia? There is variety of climates (it's a whole continent, after all) it is gay friendly, and I believe they recognize same-sex marriages. And there are some experts from there on this very site. Australia — on my bucket list. Always wanted to go, but never been. Almost went a few times. The long flight really holds me back. I almost went — don’t laugh — so I could see Sarah Brightman perform in Sunset Blvd last year. Not the only reason, but I was going to schedule a trip around that. Glad I didn’t - heard she was awful. + Charlie and + Just Sayin 2

Luv2play Posted March 11 Posted March 11 If I were in the position of Americans looking to move offshore, I would seriously consider Switzerland. I lived there for 4 years back in the 1980’s and worked there over the course of 20 years outside that period. Switzerland is notoriously picky about whom they accept as residents so only a select few would qualify. But it has a high standard of living, a beautiful climate and gorgeous scenery both in and outside of its cities. It helps to have a second or third language like French or German. But English is widely understood. + augustus, pubic_assistance, thomas and 4 others 5 1 1

Johnrom Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Has any one been to Colombia 🇨🇴 lately? I hear it’s beautiful and much safer than it was decades ago. US dollar goes a long way in South America too. + Just Sayin 1
+ BenjaminNicholas Posted March 12 Posted March 12 I have an apartment in Mexico City, so that's most likely. I'd also go to Canada, as I think their standard of living and general culture is very enjoyable. + Just Sayin, + Charlie, Luv2play and 2 others 5

musclestuduws Posted March 12 Posted March 12 (edited) I have several acquaintances who retired and emigrated to Portugal. Apparently it’s very affordable and there are beautiful towns by the sea. Then you’re already in Europe and can easily go anywhere. Personally, I’d rather move to Spain, probably Barcelona. For affordability, many retirees choose to move to Costa Rica but I don’t know much about the situation there nowadays. MaybeMaybeNot Posted March 12 Posted March 12 As I walk through Target or CVS noting how everything is locked up, I drram about moving to Japan. A friend traveled there and was amazed how women would leave their purse in public and no one would touch it. She also said it was so clean. I could go for that. BSR, Johnrom, + claym and 3 others 6

Australia would be great, except that 98% of the wildlife there can kill you... lol. I think I would choose New Zealand, given the diversity of landscapes and climates in a relatively small area, and it's high standard of living. And the fact that you can survive most animal interactions there... hahaha + claym, + Charlie, thomas and 2 others 1 1 3

+ Pensant Posted March 12 Posted March 12 I could live in Slovenia on the Adriatic coast in Istra. Very Tuscan-like.
