I had a provider new to nyc reach out to me after i initiated communication with him inquiring about his services. He told me he couldn't pay for his dinner at a restaurant so i paid him the $31 for him to eat. Then he tells me he's homeless and sleeping in the street.   How do you guys feel about this? Would you like to know who it was so you can decide whether to steer clear from him or should i just let him do his thing?

This is a weird fantasy of mine.  I wanna “Pretty Woman” a homeless guy.  Get him to a good hotel, bathe and pamper him, clothe him, take him out to dinner and of course, you know.  I’m glad my fear of STDs keeps me from acting on this.

It's good to be nice but it's also good to be cautious. I've had a couple of guys reach out to me after hiring them with desperate stories. It's hard but you cannot personally save everyone. As Kyle mentioned above, direct him to the appropriate agencies for assistance. Be careful and don't put yourself in financial jeopardy trying to help.

How do you know that's true?

Be cautious. 

Do you want to help him? Hire him again, recommend him, give him some food, teach him to save money, slowly he'll lift himself out of trouble as long as he doesn't fall into PNP like some unfortunately do. Is he local? Maybe if things didn't work out on his own it's time to go back home.

I've seen some in Seattle and Denver, not so much in San Francisco where they've been in that lifestyle for a long time.

It's called "the tragedy of my life", the guys from "DC boys" a now gone agency even taught it to their escorts.

No doubt! Helping others is a good thing but @MCR no advance payment, you'll likely regret it. Pay as you go, hire him more often if you want to help him, also tell him to seek help from local institutions, etc. At least he's escorting and on the right path to make money, get a place, etc.

I am confused by this. He's advertising on rent.men but sleeping in the streets ? Were you his only customer ? Seems like there's a lot more to this story.

I’ve been helping a guy like this the past year.   He basically couch surfs.  I got him hooked up with some social services, some dental work, he’s currently sober.   Not a project I would take on again…

And there you have it. The one and only time I have been robbed in the course of thirty years of hiring was occasioned by taking pity on a "homeless" escort, well-known in the "carriage trade", in need. However, notoriety in the business did not serve to alleviate his desperation in dire circumstances.

Wait a minute...

How did you find him? What service is he paying to advertise on?

He must have a cel phone, at least. More monthly expenses. 

When he arrived, were his clothes clean? Was he clean, freshly showered?

Did he bring lube/protection? (You don't have to answer this one if too personal for what you did with him.)

The answers to these types of questions may reveal a bit more about how helpless/homeless he really is, or isn't.

I agree with you 100%.  A lot of people these days pretend to be homeless for money.  Your best bet is to give him a gift card for food and a toiletries bag.

I would maybe put my sexual desires aside and help him get off the streets if that's what he means by "homeless." It might just be that he has no permanent residence and couch surfs and does overnights.

Sex with people who are sleeping in the street could mean getting infected with lice, scabies, mites...which takes more than a "Pretty Woman" shower to get rid of.

I had a guy show up carrying his backpack. Looked like his pic, but had been sleeping rough and needed a bath. He said he was homeless and looked it. I let him use my shower, paid him, and sent him on his way. I felt good about helping a man in need, but no way would I tap that.

How does one get a phone without an address for the bill? Does he pay his advertising bill with cash? Something sounds fishy here.

This is a hard situation to assess.   The guy may really need help or it could just be a scam.    I would probably ask a set of questions to determine if it was legit.   Has he reached out for assistance?   How did he get into this condition.    I think a bit of conversation will yield the answers and approach you might want to take,  but I realize this might be wishful thinking.    I'm not sure giving him money is really the answer,   he really needs direction and assistance,  regardless of his circumstances.

Many prepaid phones simply need a CC on file to be charged every month to work. Many homeless have smart phones.
