OP note: body image issues are not unique to gay men but certainly toxic in our community!

Considering so many posters who have shared with us how many men they attract despite not looking like your average pornstar.... should porno portray folks of all sizes and body types?

It's not that they haven't tried.  It's just that it probably hasn't sold as well.

Guys don't watch porn to see themselves.  They watch it to watch the unattainable.  The fantasy.

That's what porn is:  A highly unrealistic, hyper-visual, fantasy-driven medium.

This sort of marginalized porn has usually been shoehorned into a fetish category and as much as I'd like to see society evolve, it's not realistic to think it's going to change anytime soon.

The gay community is mega progressive in regards to our rights, but we heavily inner-discriminate if someone doesn't fit within a classic frame of beauty.

Agreed!

but at least porno now is way more diverse than in the 80's and 90's. Now we see not only jocks but also otters, daddies, cubs, biracial, bearded, etc. and PLENTY of tattooed guys.

Magazines for straight men and women have relatively embraced body positivity.

Please report this video if it's too political for the forum. I don't think that's the case even though the commentator is a well known conservative.

Successfully resisted the urge to get political.  Phew!

Sexually, most men are visual.  While it would be nice if suddenly senior, fat, bald men with an off beat sense of humor and a quick mind were suddenly the new big cock, I am not waiting for my turn at the desirability brass ring.  If you want to see the male equivalent of the magazine covers above which promote body positivity, you can find that.  But don't expect them to be big sellers no matter how sexy the movie turns out to be. Sure they may be an initial breakthrough movie that catches the eye of everyone, which has reached the tipping point for some reason, but beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but like porno, I cannot define beauty (though it has a lot to do with symmetry of facial features) but I know it when I see it.

I didn't know I was in the minority in this. I do watch fat, out-of-shape men as much as others. If I like the guy and/or what they do, I watch it. Can't care less about they looking like or unlike me.

Maybe the way I approach my sexuality is not all about physical attributes. And I refuse to believe that I am alone in this.

Not alone, just in the distinct minority.

I do know this much about these kind of films,  if there was a significant dollar to be made from having body positivity , there would be a bunch of fat, bald, old, differently abled, facially deformed guys collecting every dollar they could from making them

Maybe that's why I find myself mostly watching "vintage" pornography?  I find those men very attractive

That is already available on sites like xtube, xvideos, etc. Real guys, having real sex. I find it is even better/hotter than the staged stuff from the industry.

Do you guys see your body type represented in amateur films? Do those videos "inspire" you?

Porn gets made that sells to somebody, it's purely market driven, good intentions aren't gonna bring in paying subscribers.

That said, there's something out there for everybody, especially in this age of post-studio era, do-it-yourself porn. I personally have always found conventional commercial porn, and the men hired to perform in it, deadly dull, of no real interest at all. I certainly have never paid for it. There's plenty of porn out there featuring performers similar to every one of the models shown at the top of this thread. (With the exception, perhaps, of the model whose features suggest Down Syndrome.) The markets for "niche" performers are obviously smaller, but they certainly exist.

Somebody just revived the venerable "Bear Magazine" brand, which was seen as game-changing in the late-80s. It was the first time a commercial producer really stepped outside the presumed tastes of gay porn customers of the time, and was met with runaway success.
