If they're priced at $300/hour I doubt the average Brazilian local can afford that.

if you’re referencing online providers in Brazil - the going rate is about 300 reais per hour/$60 usd

Brazil is a big country and there are more people with money than you think - especially in São Paulo.  The “average” Brazilian would not be able to afford $60 per hour tho as you mention

This is out of context. I was replying to SirBillyBob's comment earlier that he has now deleted.

I agree with you that there are wealthy individuals in Brazil especially in its financial center who can afford it. In my comment I meant USD$300, not 300 BRL.

I’d recommend going to the saunas in London, Pleasuredrome is fun, have never been disappointed, and I’ve heard good things about SweatBox. I go to Pleasuredrome because it’s low-key (under the rail arches by Waterloo Station) and I like the space. Never hired in London.

Same goes for Montréal. I’ll go to Campus to get turned on, then walk down the street to L’Oasis. Always had much fun at L’Oasis, they used to fill the steam room with bath bubbles on Thursday nights. I remember Club 4-5-6 around 2000, that place was huge. I haven’t been to Montréal since 2018, so I don’t know what the scene is like now in the saunas but I’m sure it’s better than NYC.

Have you had a bad experience (safety wise) in Brazil?

I was robbed at gunpoint by two teenagers right in the fanciest part of Leblon.

If you can have that experience two blocks from Gucci...imagine what goes on in the rest of that city.

Everyone I know has stories of muggings by Favela boys in Rio.

You keep telling us this. Were you hurt? Did you lose much money or jewelry? Everyone you know has stories of muggings by favela boys in Rio. Has everyone you know been to Rio? Were they actually mugged or do they just have stories of muggings?

But, of course! Everyone you know has the story of your mugging! No doubt it was unpleasant and perhaps scary. But several posters have mentioned that they have not encountered a mugging in Rio. I have not and I have been there 4 times.

As we know, you can get mugged anywhere, even in New York! You take chances when you travel. That's one reason I just bought an expensive (to me) insurance package.

I am not going to stay home because something unpleasant might happen. If I don't go, nothing pleasant will happen on my vacation either!

Happy travels.

Obviously I meant everyone I know who's been to Rio.

Clearly not everyone who goes to Rio is mugged, but the ratio of people who are is very high.

Despite a city with beaches, beautiful landscapes and a perfect climate, Rio has a tourist problem. And with the world's eyes turning, it needs to fix it!

The above article was written in 2012. The author actually felt that Rio was safe enough foor him to visit, but his concern was upcoming big events that he didn't feel Rio was prepared for:

"In the next few years, Rio de Janeiro will have the planet’s eyes affixed upon it.

It will host the Catholic World Youth Day in 2013, the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016."

We now have the privilege of looking back at these events and wondering why there was not a huge uptick in crime. At least not one that he used in his February 2023 update which would have proven him right.

This is another example of @pubic_assistance using references that don't hold up.

I don't disagree with him that Rio has a crime problem, but the article suggests staying off questionable streets and not carrying a camera. Duh! If I get robbed, it won't be because I went to a high crime area with a camera.

I poo poo'd many of my friend's accounts of being mugged as simply being in the wrong place with the wrong attire ( flashy watch/ jewelry ). But I was robbed in broad daylight in the most expensive neighborhood, with NO watch, no jewelry and dressed very casually. My greatest concern about being robbed by children ( they appeared to be about 14 years old ) is that children haven't quite developed that sense of self-preservation that prevents you from doing stupid things. Like shooting two tourists in broad day light.

The statistics of violent crime ARE down. That's what I said. but the culture of crime spilling out of the favellas has not stopped. I am simply sharing my own personal observations of how easy it is to be attacked no matter how much of an experienced traveler you may be.

By all means @Lucky give it a whirl and see if you join the statistics.

For my part, I am done with Rio.

My limited understanding is that a Queen's husband (at least in the UK) is never crowned or referred to as King Consort because he would technically outrank the Queen.  Husbands are known at most as Prince Consort and they are not crowned, but rather, need to pay homage to their wife as part of the coronation ceremony.  What I find interesting is that the title 'Queen' apparently comes from the Old English word 'cwen' which translates to 'wife'.  In reality 'Queen' refers to the wife of a King, though it has evolved over the centuries to mean a woman reigning in her own right.  And I don't believe a Queen is able to transfer her titles to her husband, unlike what a King is able to do by having his wife crowned Queen Consort.  I'm not sure who has the final say, but I think the public may not have been happy to see Camilla crowned as Queen Consort had the late Queen not expressed her desire to see that happen.  In the case of Phillip, I believe that Parliament stepped in and required that he renounce his Danish-Greek royal titles before he married Elizabeth.  It was only later that she made him a Prince of the UK through letters patent.

A queen who reigns in her own right is called either a sovereign queen or a queen regnant.  The wife of a king is a queen consort.

Thanks, @pubic_assistance. I plan to and who knows, I may end up agreeing with you. I've been there 5 times without incident, maybe my luck will run out. Or maybe not.

Same for me .

I had been several times.

I used to love Rio (I also love Brazil in general).

I always poo-poo'ed all the stories of violence and muggings as being a "dumb tourist". But I am far from an inexperienced traveler and have visited more obviously dangerous places so I know how to watch my back and know when I am in danger.

Unfortunately those favella boys will ride up on their cute little bikes like innocent school children until you see the guns come out of their beltline. You won't see it coming.

So if you are going to risk it again...my advice (which saved me a bullet in the head) is to carry a big wad of singles in your pocket. That way your robber thinks he hit the jackpot. They don't ever wait to count the money and will run off with no reason to shoot you in the face since they think they got what they were coming for.

I'm currently on my fourth dedicated trip to London solely for the purpose of sex. For someone like me who is into white and latin guys there really is no other city that comes close in terms of escort offerings.

What are your favourite destinations?

Or as some, mind you never I, might say Queen ‘conswhort’ in spite of Cami’s improved image.

I don't care that much that she and Charlie were stepping out on Diana. I just find her loathsome on general principles.  At the coronation, she and Charlie were more cartoonish than monarchic.

I did not watch, much.

I think that I’m already spoiled by Tracey Ullman send-up skits and Spitting Image caricatures.
