Client Cancellation

Hey guys... I have never had this happen before.  After a lot of back and forth, I scheduled a session with a provider.  I wound up testing positive for COVID and cancelled 30 hours before the scheduled time - I apologized and offered to pay half the fee.  The provider was really angry and felt I should pay the whole fee.  I generally try to be a fair guy - but - this didn't sit well with me.  I still said I would pay half - he basically said "F**ck you"...

Thoughts?

As an escort, I'd say you were generous in even offering him half.   Clearly, you're a good egg :)

COVID/Monkeypox should make people a bit more understanding.  Shit happens.  It is what it is.  Unless someone has already outlayed a ton of money for the meet (airfare, excursions, a cruise, etc), I don't see how a single hour or even an overnight cancelled should piss someone off so much.

Move forward knowing you did the right thing.

Was the appointment with Jarrod_uncut?

Hey buddy... it was not him.  I would rather not say because he is on the message boards and the last thing I need is more anger.  He was so pissed that I wasn't sure if most people would have paid the whole fee... so I thought I would check here.  Good to know it seems to be him not me.

Interesting update.  He reached out and apologized and said he would be happy to take half the fee LOL.  He said he has had a lot of cancellations lately with COVID and Monkeypox and he has been financially stressed.

Still a really unpleasant experience - and I won't hire him again (obviously) - but - still - I was glad he apologized and I paid him the half fee.

Thanks for validating how I handled it - I honestly have never had this happen before and wasn't sure if I violated some provider/client etiquette!

Love the forum...

The op has not said how long the planned session was to be. In my case I have had the occasion to cancel within a day or two of the scheduled appointment. The last time it  happened was two months ago when I was in Toronto. It was for an overnight but not the date of my preference since I was going to have to stay an extra night.

When I cancelled I let him know upfront I would send him a cancellation fee of $200. He was happy when he got it after I got home a day later. I would not have considered sending him half of an overnight fee but for a shorter session of 1 or 2 hours yes a half would be reasonable, especially if it didnt leave him much time to make alternative arrangements.

I'm sorry - I think you were played.

Most providers would be overjoyed to be given, without even asking, half the fee, especially given that you gave him 30 hours and had Covid. When you break an appointment for Covid, you're doing a favor to both sides - which is why I would only give a token cancellation fee for that.

Unfortunately, your provider saw your generosity, took advantage of it, and tried to get away with more.

However, your lack of response (or, if he's on this board, reading your post) made him wise up (along with the prospect of losing the entire cancellation fee). Plus, by "settling" for half the fee, he could act like he's doing you a favor. Adding those sob stories about being short of money was his attempt to keep you as a customer (which luckily failed).

****

You can't be too cynical. I've seen it all before.

It was an an hour session.  Booked two weeks ago.  I have been traveling - was at a work event - and a few people tested positive for COVID.  I felt mostly fine - a little congested which I thought might be allergies... tested anyway - and was positive.  I felt terrible since I had engaged the provider and booked the session.  In my professional life, I hate people who waste my time - so I thought I would let him know the situation and offer half the fee, not knowing really what the protocol was.  He didn't make a special trip to my city... he was coming anyway...

His reaction was - aggressive and angry... which made me question what the protocol is when you cancel... but I am glad to hear on the boards that my offer was actually generous with a 30 hour cancellation notice.  I am actually glad he wrote back to apologize - and listen - it's been a tough couple of years for all of us - providers probably in particular.  Still - I will never engage him again.

Ugh.  I hate to think I was played.  At the end of the day, I guess I need to feel like I did my best and did not behave unethically. I did book an appointment.  He was relying on that income - and although it wasn't my fault - I did have to cancel.  That being said, I will not engage him ever again... And it's great to know from the boards that my actions were not out of line.

I have only cancelled about half a dozen times over many years of hiring. Most of these have been pandemic related altho I didn't catch COVID. I remember once early in the pandemic I had invited an escort I had been with several times previously including an ovrrnight to come to my town as I didnt want to go to Montreal and many hotels were closed anyway.

The reason I cancelled was because I thought my neighbours would be upset if they saw an out of province car in my driveway when we were supposed to be in lockdown. When I told him he completely understood. And it wasn't at the last minute.

You did the responsible thing to do by cancelling this appointment.  In a case like this, I might have offered to pay half the fee, but only as a deposit against a future appointment - not as a cancellation fee.

You were generous above and beyond the norm.

Clearly, apology or not, this provider is a total jerk.

Cancellation fees in my opinion are to compensate for the trouble an escort has gone to in setting up a meeting that the client then cancels. It also serves to compensate for any lost income that the escort might suffer, the so-called " opportunity cost" because other business may have been foregone.

Both of those factors differ in each case of a canceled meeting. I think the client can gauge the first pretty accurately but has no way of knowing how the second factor may have come into play. If the cancellation is last minute, then the escort is likely left high and dry.

That is when some form of compensation to my mind is clearly called for. If the cancellation is several days in advance and the escort has not gone to any particular trouble preparing for the session, then in my opinion no cancellation fee should be expected.

Curious if you'd be willing to book him again in the future, since he 'graciously' decided to accept your offer of half fee for cancellation.  (I wouldn't.)  Guys like this really shouldn't ignore the prospect of repeat business. But I think a lot of them do.

Definitely would not book again.  I appreciated the apology... but - as the late great Maya Angelou said "When someone tells you who they are - believe them!"  So - now we know.

On this forum, dedicated to reviews of gay escorts much less, does the word "fuck" really offend participants so much that you have to censor it with **s?
