I usually don't like to rain on anyone's parade because each taste and situation is unique, but the Stock Bar lineup on their website doesn't look promising at all. It seems more like the lineup for Taboo rather than Stock Bar. I'm going during the first weekend of October, and I have no expectations for the Stock Bar guys 😕

Time to start looking for new stripper bar places?

Correct.  Former Stock dancer Tyler introduced Jay to the bar in either 2018 or 2019.

Unfortunately, not likely to find anything to replace Stock - the glory days are behind it for a number of reasons -  economy, social media, Gen Z attitudes.

Have you guys seen the lineup? You know the one to encourage you to buy the ppv  and go to  visit

I bet there are  public and clients for that style but it's not your typical past  Stock Bar type :(

We still have Campus

*sighs*  where will i go now

I'm in Montreal this week.  I've been to Taboo once and Campus twice.  My last visit was 7 years ago.

Taboo.... Formerly a place for smooth young white twinks.  That's not usually my type because I like hunks with muscle, but I stopped by anyway.  The place was dead.  The dancers were all young and thin, but they were all black/brown/yellow (no white) on the night I went.  Dancers kept their underwear on.

Campus... Wow!  Almost every dancer was my type.  Hunks with muscle.  Lean men with definition.  Every color represented but heavy influence from French Canadian and Europe.  Every dancer got naked, or at least showed their cock, during their second dance on stage.  Private dance area is great, and dancers have the freedom to do what they want thanks to Canada's ruling that paying for sex is not illegal (it just can't be pimped, managed, or advertised).  The ONLY thing Johnson's in Ft Lauderdale does better than Campus is keeping their female customers in check.  At campus, the few women in the audience would constantly screech and scream, killing the hard-ons of most gay men in the room.  Thankfully, they have two different lap dance areas separated by sex (of the customer).  The men's area is behind a door, with private booths, and kept dimly lit.  The female area is out in the open, well let, with lots of security cameras.  Gotta make sure a female doesn't claim #MeToo assault during her lap dance.

I haven't checked out Stock yet.  I'll do that tonight.

Is this a new thing?

When Bozo was in Montreal 2 months ago, there were no private booths. There were booths, but ZERO privacy. No curtains. No doors. Nothing. The lap dances were totally open.
Anyone standing near the dj booth or at the bottom of the staircase could look thru the transparent glass and see everything going on (except for that one booth on the far left, which is out of public view) in the lap dance area.
Has Campus made changes in the lap dance room to now provide privacy?

Bozo is correct.  All four of my dancers thus far have just happen to score that one booth on the far left, so to me it always felt private.  Nevertheless, I am very happy with the setup and would be happy in any of the other booths.  I'm not shy. 😜

Simply put, purchasing sex is illegal as of 2014. Prior to that only communication for the purposes of prostitution was an offence. The 2013 Supreme Court ruling only decriminalized sex workers’ selling of sex, prompting the new legislation that aligns with the Nordic Model. So yes, dancers do what they please with formal impunity, in contrast to customers. The door remains open for an exploitive consumer to face retribution, but that would be likely related to the abuse of a woman or child.

It’s just that enforcement in strip clubs is little to none. The Montreal police have come into Campus as part of patrolling all commercial venues in The Village, essentially in the interests of community relations. They graciously refrain from entering the lap dance area, obviously aware of what’s up, and the club staff don’t rush into the area to urge the putting away of genitals. The clubs are perceived as a step removed and do not overtly directly profit from dancers’ earnings.

So, based on the portion of the law posted above, in Canada it is okay to sell sexual services of your own self.  However, it is unlawful for some one to purchase those sexual services offered by the person advertising.

The current changed laws sounds quite bizarre.

In short, the seller is okay but the buyer can be arrested and put in jail.

Sounds like the law was prepared by inmates in an insane asylum.

It’s the Nordic model.  I wouldn’t say it’s crazy.  It’s better than what the US has.

How does it make sense?

Under Canadian law, it is okay to advertise sex for money and the advertiser is safe from the law and prosecution.

However, if anyone responds to an offer of sex for money in Canada, the person buying the sex is subject to prison.

How do you reconcile the lack of logic?

Putting it another way, Rentmen.eu is very popular in Canada.  Those guys advertising themselves for sex on rentmen are exempt from the law.

But, if you or I or anyone else responds to the ad and accepts the offer of sex for money, we can go to prison.  That makes sense?

The idea is that two things can be simultaneously bad and are to be discouraged: prostitution and equivalency of culpability. Selling is considered to be wrong yet not subject to punitive legal consequences. In our strip club content context the net result is abolitionist-lite but correct awareness of the legalities in Canada may have relevance in general.

I agree! They can advertise and sell their hot bodies and an array of "services" that come with it, but if we chose to buy, we are criminals and breaking the laws??? Maybe if they weren't selling nobody would be inclined to buy, even if in our minds we wished we could as they walk by! Imagine that same senario with anything else, drugs, alcohol, tobacco products or just anything! Legal to advertise and sell, just illegal to buy it! 😡

As Sir BillyBob indicated it’s the Nordic model Canada adopted after the Supreme Court ruling in 2013. It doesn’t appear to have made any impact on hiring escorts from the Internet. Nor to playing with dancers at Campus.

A friend and I used to meet up in Montreal for a weekend of strip clubs. Then it all seemed to quiet down so we stopped. Is it coming back to what it was?

This is only my 2nd time in Montreal.  The other was summer 2017.  As for Campus, it is way more busy with way better dancers than it was 7 years ago.

I still haven't made it to Stock yet to compare

Looking forward to your report on Stock. It was my favorite place in Montreal.

I was there a couple of weeks ago.  My experience was roughly like yours.  Taboo, for many years my favorite, was dead every time I stopped by...no DJ, no customers, and essentially* no dancers (*essentially means one night there was the cutest twink in the world behind the bar -- and no once else.  I asked him about other dancers and he said "just me."  "How can you dance if you have to tend bar?"  "Gerry takes over for me." (Gerry is the long-time manager.)  I told him I'd love to do some dances with him, but needed to see him on stage first -- by now we're clearly flirting.  He jumped up on stage, did some bumps and grinds, showed me his butt and dick, and jumped down.  We did some dances...well worth my time and money. ) (Taboo now has curtains on the booths by the way.)

Campus was pretty lively every time, but not until well past 9:30 pm...I suspect it was even louder and more crowded after I went home.  The new owner has a new business model...no more porn on the screens, but a well-produced, sometimes humorous, montage of the dancers. (I miss the raunch of the old Campus! ) He seems to be drawing a lot of locals who want to hang out with their friends.  I bonded with one dancer who told me that almost all the dancers are straight, and many are refugees from Stock.  That was certainly the vibe I got.  He claimed that most of the women who frequent Campus are themselves strippers in the straight clubs. I have never encountered a problem doing whatever I wanted (or the dancers would allow) in the booths at Campus, no matter how exposed the booths were.

I remarked to my informant, who himself used to dance at Stock, that the outside terrace bar at Stock seemed to be doing good business, He replied that inside was dead, rather like the description I gave above of Taboo. As a result, I never tried Stock. (Sorry @Lucky 😞)

For the record, l'Adonis/Luxe/Expose is now the Red Diamond.  There were dancers hanging around outside when I walked past.  No one to tempt me inside.

I finally checked out Stock last night (Sunday, on Canada Day Holiday weekend).

Both Campus and Stock had pretty good crowds of patrons after 8pm, but they both had sparse numbers of dancers compared to the busy Friday or even Thursday after midnight.  Even at 11pm on Sunday, dancers would only be on stage about every 3rd song at both bars.  An improvement at Stock is the addition of a shower side stage, for dancers to begin their dance in a towel and end totally wet.

The quality of dancers at Campus and Stock are comparable.  Both had gorgeous dancers, both had dancers with big dicks, and both had dancers with sexy strip tease skills.

In summary: both Stock and Campus are doing well.  I would be lucky to have either of these fine establishments in my home town, much less both of them!  Stock has a slight advantage of the shower side stage, and Campus has a slight advantage of slightly lower cover charge being one block closer to my hotel. 😉

It's a toss-up.  Visit them both

The shower side stage has been there for years. It didn’t get much use during the pandemic but pre-Covid it was used a lot on weekends. The duo shower shows by Thierry & JP was the stuff of legend.

I've lived here since 2017, you are hyping it up a bit too much. You are basing everything based on two visits, years apart lol. Yes things are better than they have been in the past few covid years but nothing is like how it used to be years ago. Nothing has really changed either in terms of getting anything extra. If a dancer does do something extra, they still have to be pretty discreet as the bar doesn't want to get in trouble for that. It's not a brothel.

The quality of Stock dancers is a joke, 99% of the guys wouldn't have even got an audition back in the day. Once Jasper goes, they really have nothing left IMO.

All the strip clubs now are frequently full of loud women, I was using the urinal in the tiny Campus bathroom last week when one walked in with her small dog. She was waiting for the one stall to open. It told her women have their own restroom upstairs but she didn't seem to wanna walk up there. So just had to piss next to a woman and her dog.
