Advice on Grindr looking for gen men?

What are people's experiences with them? Good? Bad?

Do you agree on rates and exact actions before doing anything, or just sort of tip what you feel is appropriate after?

Any safety tips other than meet first in a public place?

In my experience most accounts on Grindr that are looking for gen guys are scams.

How would the scam work? Just take the gift up front and then leave, or don't do anything? I had a guy on RM scam me once. I put the gift on the table so he could see it. But still to this day, if I see a RM ad that hits all my buttons and I am really geared up to play, I am less careful than would be otherwise. The better looking the guy is, the more likely it is that I might be scammed. Suppose that's just my own weakness and stupidity.

Gen guys on Grindr/hook up apps scam by usually getting you to message them off platform on Telegram or another messaging app and they try to pull a phishing scam on you or the common Venmo/CashApp scams usually. They never actually meet up or gift you. Not really the same "scam" as guys on RM who actually will meet you and just give lackluster service.

It usually goes like this: 

1. A model hot guy contacts you on Grindr. 

2. They get you really horny.

3. They ask for your phone number or some other messaging app. 

4. They ask for a deposit. 

5. They either block you or start spinning a sob story and ask you for more money. 

Reverse image search helps a lot. Make sure you reverse image search anyone asking for your number or email. Often times these guys are spoofing their location and are not even in the country.

I’ve caught a few scammers on grindr. They have a pattern - first they ask if you have WhatsApp or another messaging app to get you off the grindr platform - I block them immediately. Others use I’m in military stationed somewhere or on an oil drill with some sad story needing money.

When I've offered being gen on regular hookup sites or apps most guys then want you to send the money first. It's just not worth it to even waste your time. Just go right to RM. The legit guys actually on there are on RM anyway.

However he also had a RentM client profile as well, which of course I’m well reviewed on. He sent deposit, I reserved accommodations, and he showed up and everything was fine.

I don’t typically use it for bookings, but I know oftentimes that’s the main site where most traffic comes thru on. 
 

I will say, I have better luck and wider audience on apps than in person at bars and such. I also don’t “hit clients up first”, which makes a difference. The client has to make the first move. And me being not super approachable in public as it is, Grindr makes it easier to be approached where I normally wouldn’t be.

Sometimes Grindr work pretty well for me but is more hard. But I never ask deposit only the uber ride if I am going to travel. This is an example of 2 days ago. But normally guys from Grindr are not able to spend a lot… But sometimes Grindr is easier bc a lot of them don’t know about the RM.

As a customer/client who offers to be g*e*n on Grindr, I’ve had exactly ONE successful interaction when I was away from my home City. At home I’m ignored by locals but preyed upon by the scammers, most of whom are impossibly good-looking and all of whom are miles and miles and miles away, and who all offer undying love and some form of sob story along with a request to communicate via WhatsApp. I came to Grindr late and all the ads and scams now make it pointless. Worthless might be a better word. It might be expensive but I’ll stick with RM, thank you very much.

I don’t recommend it for sure. But in smaller cities with less gay viewers on RentM, sometimes Grindr and others (have heard of guys using other apps) are all that’s available. 
 

I still dislike Grindr, because it’s a piece of sh!t site and doesn’t help the escort industry much, but similar to how Craigslist and Adam4Adam were once useful occasional outlets, Grindr can be too depending where in the world you are.

I found the scammers are getting lazy.  I have gotten at least ten messages from different "middle eastern men". They are all using the same picture.

I’m suddenly getting hit on by a number of middle eastern men. First red flag is they are always quite a distance from my location…so I ignore or block.

The most common scam on Grindr is to act like you like the guy, text awhile, then ask for twenty via PayPal for gas to drive to you.

This is as ubiquitous as normal guys begging on streets claiming to be homeless. And it turns chatting into an evaluation if the guy is worth talking to.

I usually insist on meeting in person for conversation, even if in a public location. 90% of the guys ghost or chicken out at the last minute. Long past the days when I found a decent boyfriend on there.

1. The reason why we want to text outside the Grindr platform because Grindr bans accounts that talk about transaction and money.  

2. I actually had a very good experience with Grindr. Over the summer of 2025, I remembered I was averaging around 20ish clients per month from July-September just from Grindr alone. It is harder to get clients on RM if you stayed in a city for over a year, because you are no longer the new face. On Grindr, you will ALWAYS be a NEW FACE when you move around to different areas since profiles are distance-based.

 

3. In my experience, RM heavily relies on clients with Asian fetish. Grindr clients are picky and very into looks; they are very discriminatory toward Asians, so being a muscle Asian helps out alot. Relying on Asian fetish wont get me far on Grindr. So you need to make sure your body is as muscular as possible and hit the GYM. 

4. Any Asian guy can get clients on RM, but on Grindr it is an uphill battle especially if are not muscular/attractive. 

 

5. I would say I get more clients from Grindr when RM starts to slow. On RM I go more expensive because all of the guys using the platform are 100% clients and they will pay your asking rate. On Grindr, I go cheaper because you are targeting normal people who have never used escorts before. Plus, you cannot go too expensive on younger clients.

6. On Grindr, go cheaper on young or hot/attractive guys. More expensive on older.

7. In my case, my clients from Grindr are mostly young guys in 20-30s. I dont often get older clients on Grindr. Most of the attractive clients I ever encountered were all from Grindr. And yes, believe me hot guys do actually pay for these services. On RM, there are more older.

8. Just two days ago I went to Queens, NY to visit my friend and I got a cute Colombian client right away from Grindr on my first day there. I paid my buddy a fee to host at his house 🤣. My Latin buddy was stunned that I was able to get client on Grindr that easily. He would not have believed me had he not seen it in person. Grindr is life!
