Adult circumcision—Would you?

Two things relating to foreskin appeared in my social media this week.  One was a reference to “docking,” which, I confess, I had to look up, and the other was a picture of a cake with iced lettering that read “Goodbye Foreskin!” It got me thinking about whether adults who are uncut would ever decide to undergo the procedure and, if so, why, and if not, why not?  Regardless of your personal penile status, could/would you do it?

If you are a consenting adult - hey, go ahead and do all the stupid you want. Just dont expect me to pay for it - it is elective, cosmetic, surgery in my opinion. ✂️

I agree.  

I know a former Bulgarian escort in Madrid that had very fine and sensitive foreskin that would rip on occasion.  He ended up getting circumsized and was much happier afterwards.  There can be legit medical reasons to get circumsized.  Otherwise, I do not recommend it.

I’ve met two young men over the years who had issues with their uncut penises that were alleviated by medically recommended circumcision. Both were happy they did it…but one said it was the most painful couple weeks of his life.

I have met a few guys who had that issue but they were able to get it fixed with minor surgery and they are happy to have kept it intact

Would I electively be circumcised as an adult? No.

Are there legitimate medical reasons for circumcision in an adult? Yes.

Would I be circumcised as an adult for a legitimate medical reason? Yes. 

Am I glad that I was circumcised as an infant? Yes

A Jewish friend told me that when she married, her non-Jewish husband (who'd been circumcised as an infant, but not by a mohel) needed, as part of his conversion, to have a mohel to do it again. He was freaked out, but apparently it was just a tiny ceremonial snip.

Adult circumcision is quite common in some countries. The African guys I met while traveling in South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland all went through it. There is a cultural thing where the 17/18 year olds burn their clothes and possessions for a fresh start to adulthood, live in a hut in the mountains for a month or so learning about their ancestors and beliefs, then are cut by a traditional healer in an adulthood ceremony.  With a sharpened spear, not a scalpel! It leaves an ugly scar and every year dozens of men die during the ceremony due to infection.

My father was circumcised as an adult. I remember him struggling to walk for weeks. Not sure why he chose to do it...but he claimed it was "worth it". I never chose to delve into the gory details of why.

I've watched some personal testimonies on YouTube of guys who got circumcised and completely regretted it later. 

I have no issue one way or the other if an adult wants to get it done. I do have a big issue with forcing males get to get it done though. 

Circumcision removes a lot of nerve cells and protection.  There's a reason why so many men later on in life have erectile issues as the penis becomes more desensitized over time.

The downside of having a foreskin is that there are always partners (potential or realized) who are mildly to adamantly repelled. It's a difference-from-the-boomer-norm that I didn't ask for, but I never once looked into alterations.

I have never experienced it but that pain would be a powerful deterrent.  With most surgeries you can immobilize the body part to reduce pain caused by movement, stretching of sutures, or chafing, but the penis is a unique animal.  It stretches, shrinks, compresses, expands, and moves around as you move.  God forbid you should get aroused before it heals.  I can imagine the stresses on the wound as it tries to heal can be very painful.  As for your dad, I can’t say I would have asked either.  My dad wouldn’t have even told me he’d had the surgery.  All that matters is that he was glad he did it, for whatever reasons…As for my answer to the OP: Nope, I wouldn’t do it.

I'm glad I got it cut off when younger. As an adult, I'd probably chicken out unless there was a given medical reason for it.

I've known quite a few men who have been circumcised as adults. Three of them did so because their doctors told them they had to because of Phimosis and constant infections. The rest all did it for religious purposes, and I knew two were seriously considering it for esthetic reasons because they "wanted to look like most other guys". To the latter, I told them to seriously consider the fact that if they later regretted it, there was no restoration (at least at the time)! For those that went through with it for whatever reason, not one ever voiced regret, though all admitted it did take some getting used to because the sensation was "different".

Every time I think about this I'm so grateful to my parents for having had it done to me. And while I certainly do appreciate foreskin on some men, I'm glad I don't have one and don't envy them a bit. Kind of like tattoos I guess. I don't have any and glad I never got any, but I can appreciate them on other men. It's all a matter of taste, if you'll excuse the pun. 😜
