When texting a provider what amount of time should I expect a response?  I texted a provider with questions and it took 28 hours before he responded.  I told him I'd be back in touch when I knew the exact time I'm available but let him know that I was looking for 4-5 days later.  Two days laterI texted that I wanted an appointment and gave 48 hour notice.   It's been 24 hours and no response from him.  I realize people have lives and I don't expect a reply immediately but 24+ hours seems too long.  Plus this wasn't a message within the Rent Men site.  I feel like a text message to his phone should get a response quicker than 24 hours. Even if his reply is "I'm busy now and will get back shortly".  Is a long response time a red flag?

It's not a red flag for a few hours - they could be meeting with another provider.

However, if they go a day or two without responding, it probably means they aren't interested, aren't available, or aren't checking their texts.

Otherwise, it varies. Some providers only want same-day appointments, while others can schedule weeks in advance. However, providers who can schedule that well are rare.

Unfortunately I find your experience to be quite common these days. The reality is a lot of guys are doing this more on the side and they may only take a couple clients a month at most. If you catch them at the right time it can work well but it's more and more common to see. I think it's good to very specific on time and if they don't text you back quickly move on to another guy.

Sounds like you did everything right so far.

I will say: I don’t think there’s any set “rules” or signs to go by.  Sometimes I can reply to clients right away or within the hour, other times a whole day or 2 may go by. Sometimes, I just don’t notice a message at all, and will go back later and realize it. I also have 2 separate numbers. Others may do the same, so often times it’s not always a case of someone being ignored, they may just not be active on that particular line.

24 hours being long is only relative, though it may seem. I have clients not get back to me for days, weeks, even YEARS for some to get back to me.

I think you should go about it as normal, state your timing preference. If person doesn’t get back right away: don’t assume anything more than what it might be. Like @keroscenefire said, just be ready to respond appropriately when they do reply but: also be open to plan B if you need to.

However, and not saying this is you: don’t be the bossy, impatient client who gets an attitude and starts immediately making other plans when an escort doesn’t reply back within 20 minutes. Clients like that, tend to be high maintenance and can’t be relied on. But like I said, so far you’re on the right track. Booked in advance, sent a couple messages. I think after 24 hours after the 2nd message, you’re safe to Plan B it to someone else.

There's no hard and fast rule when it comes to texting. I've had guys who respond within 10-15 minutes and guys who take over a day to respond, and some who just don't respond at all. Of course we all prefer someone who gets back to us ASAP but I don't hold it against someone that takes a day. Sometimes they're busy. Some providers have full time jobs or are busy with other clients.

If you're the kind of person who needs a provider to respond to you within an hour then just move on from the one who doesn't. It makes no sense to chase a provider who chooses not to text you back after a day and then get mad at them for that.

Yes. Just wait as long as you're willing, then contact someone else. If the person you initially texted gets back to you, and you have someone else, just tell them. It's just business.

I know some clients text multiple providers at once, but I personally don't think that's a good business practice.

Replying to this 10 hours later, I hope you haven’t moved on!

I try to respond promptly but if someone texts me say just before I’m going to see a client for let’s say a 2 hour appointment then it’s highly likely I won’t respond to the text for 3 hours. I think 3 hours is quite tight. I get enquiries from abroad when I’m asleep so it could be I don’t reply for up to 8 hours.

Actually in some ways this is beneficial to me because I’m not looking for or wanting clients who’s interest in hiring me is so transient and immediate that they’ve moved on after 3 hours and they can’t appreciate I might actually be busy. I don’t do ‘last minute’ sessions (the motivation for those is not something I’m wanting to satisfy) therefore those potential clients who do ‘move on’ after 3 hours is a great way for me to weed out the superficial and transactional type of client with that mindset. Nothing wrong with that type of client, but they’re not the kind I market to.

Guys, if it takes you 3+ hours to respond to our initial text, don't even bother. We've moved on.

This statement says more about the clients than providers.  Goodness forbid a provider received the text while sleeping, at the beginning of a multi-hour session, at the beginning of his gym routine, or at the beginning of a movie on an evening out with friends.

What's with the impatience of the original poster?  Given the age of many clients...I wouldn't be surprised if he's "passed on" after 3 hours.

My expectation, with anyone, from clients, vendors, friends, family, providers etc is three days for a reply.

3hr max response time under any circumstances is unrealistic. Give it a day.

You always provide great, thoughtful advice. Putting on a client hat -- if 24 hours goes by and nothing, would you reach out again to see if they received the text or would you move on? I have an iPhone and can see when messages are delivered and read for other iPhone users, but this text showed nothing, so they must be on an android. I also have an option to call them.

Appreciate your opinion, as always!

I have never heard of the OP, but he was last on three hours ago,  Doesn't that mean he won't read anything addressed to him in those three hours?

What it means is that he didn't get the support he expected when posting this and then vacated the thread AQAP.

Earlier today a member started a new thread on response times, which we merged with one started earlier in the year. So the OP that has been mentioned today was the OP of the older thread (and the one to which @BenjaminNicholas's comment above refers). I have just added a third thread, from last year to the mix.

While I'm here, there are a couple of other threads that are more or less relevant but which through age (2021 for one) or being differently focussed are best referenced here rather than be merged into a single thread. There is a degree of consistency, although not unanimity, in the responses.
