Age shaving? How much is too much and what's acceptable?

Tangential remark –

A lot of the “21-year-old guys” are actually much closer to 30 than they admit in their ads because youth sells. I know this for a fact. Two regulars of mine shave several years off their ages for their RM ads because they can pass for younger. Is that akin to saying you’re 9” when when you’re actually 7”? Maybe. I’m sure some here will disagree or justify such “fudging,” but the fact remains it happens. In more ways than one. The “product” is misrepresented in order to make the sale.

This thread was inspired by @Archangel comment on a different subject.

At the risk of repeating myself:

I don't mind age shaving withing reason.  It seems like the norm that guys pretend to be a bit younger than they are (shaving off between 5 and 10 years, depending on what age they are).  It's guys who claim to be 39 forever that really annoy me.  Even if a guy is still in great physical condition, there's no way a 60 year old is going to convince anyone he's still in his thirties.

I'm generally into guys who are 35 and up, so I don't run into this as much. Still, I am okay with a few years, particularly if they look younger. People generally guess that I'm a decade younger than my age. However, if someone claims to be 25 and they're clearly 40, that makes me think they're untrustworthy or deluded.

People think I’m 3 years old if I shave my facial hair. If I have a beard, they guess I’m 43. Still wrong, but huge difference 😂

Let’s not forget that age is the big boogeyman for 90% of the gays.

18-30, prime meat, “sugar baby desire”

30-45, invisible to most men, “dead”

45+, assumed to be stable and well establishedly employed, “sugar daddy candidate”

For some that might be true, but I think there are a lot of guys who would include guys in their thirties and forties (at least early to mid forties) as being in their prime.  I like both twinks and hunks.

That's me.  Generally little interest in twinks so it isn't an issue that I'm invisible to them. I don't understand older guys who are distressed by the fact that they are invisible to boys young enough to be their grandchildren.  Recently, I've begun to appreciate guys in their late 20s, but I don't think guys hit  their prime until late 30s - mid-40s.

To me what really matters is how the guy looks in person and his attitude but I understand some getting pissed off when age shaving is just outrageous.

This.  100%.

If you take solid care of yourself, no one will know what your actual age is.  A lot of escorts live hard and it shows, which has always amazed me considering this is (initially) a looks-based business.  Smoking, sunshine and steroids always catch up with people in the end and it's usually not pretty.

However, shaving 10+ years off is no bueno.

For me, age less about looks or anything physical or sexual. I look at it and (perhaps unfairly) make assumptions about personality based off it. But I’m also looking for something beyond plug in and pull out. I do several days at a time. A guy my age will provide a different BFE than a 21-yo

You’re buying a fantasy and the providers are concerned that they have to age shave particularly at older ages. If they can carry off the fantasy regardless of their chronological age, it doesn’t concern me. There are far more important things that can be misrepresented.

I more or less feel the same but some of these folks are NOT carrying of the fantasy. As I mentioned earlier, I pass for a decade younger than I am. So to have someone claiming to be 15 years younger than me LOOK 10-15 years older than my chronological age is off-putting.

Some of it depends what you’re in the mood for too. Do you want a mature guy or a frisky youngin? I’ve done both. I’ve found the guys my age think sometimes we’re chummy and I really don’t like chummy in real life relationships. Young guys tend to be more selfish than older guys in my experience but by virtue of our age difference they subconsciously don’t attempt to identify with me the same way older guys do. That’s more interesting, but the immaturity and narcissism can be annoying.

Now I'm disappointed,   I thought maybe a new "fountain of youth"  had been discovered!!    lol

Seriously,  I'd rather just give your age and be the absolute best you can be.

And risk being excluded from the filters that can be set up on many categories including age

What do providers lie about? Probably the same things general folks do in hookup posts -—

- age (what you can get away with … except many just can’t and still insist on it)

- dick size (when fully fully fully hard …and maybe it’s the clients fault he can’t get there 😊)

- height (unless your partner is standing next to you and of similar height it won’t really be noticed if it’s an inch or two that’s fudged)

- health status (not touching that one given the sensitivity …)

- safe sex practices

- Pnp comfort

- top / btm / vers capabilities and preference (two different things)

In short - everything really.

oh and photos that are clearly out of date - I laugh whenever I see one provider in my area insist all his photos are from the last 3 months (he looks different if you compare them) and he’s had that up with the same photos for at least 3 years)

what was the original question again? 😊

Now if you want to be up for the first screening and not rejected before the potential client has even taken a look at your post, you want to maximize odds - and many if not most use filters - and they cover pretty much all of the above

Tbh I can live with the age lie if they can get away with it. Less so on some of the other ones. Each to their own. It’s all a fantasy - I’m not going to seek 100% integrity from a hobby that is built on secrecy and fantasy.

I don't care about age.  I'm looking for a guy in great shape with good reviews (and legal of course).

I have hired one provider who lists his age as late 20s when in fact he was in his early 20s.  He realized some clients l99k for someone with a bit more experience.  I expect he'll be in his 20s for another dozen or so years.
