xyz48B
Resorts are places where Americans (and sometimes Japanese) can go abroad but not have to engage with the local culture. I’m heading to a resort in Scotland with an escort at the end of April. We are looking forward to the resort, to be sure. It’s gorgeous. But we’ve already committed to do things off-resort, including driving about. The resort planners wanted to book us for “tours” (read: activities) on-resort, but we’re not really interested in that. I told him I want to go to a local restaurant every. One of the best things about traveling is sampling local cuisine. This is where you have to be savvy with looking up reviews online. I was surprised how many folks who stay at this resort pay for tax or other ride services simply to avoid renting a car and driving on the opposite side of the road. That doesn’t bother me at all. And renting a car is much cheaper than ride services. Unless of course you’re going to spend the whole vacation on-resort. Resort vacationing can be a lot of fun, but you have to know how to plan if you want a taste of the local way of life. And even then, you’re still a tourist. I LOVE CDMX, I LOVE Mexico! I will be back next month to work for 10 days in CDMX, Monterrey and Morelia, can't wait. Back then I used to go often to PV, to Tulum, to Playa, to Cipolite, to Pie de la Cuesta, to Los Cabos...I went once to Cancun and once to Acapulco in those years but it was too much for me even then, I can't imagine now! Those were the days were even if tourism of course was present, you could really feel Mexican authenticity. Vallarta was LOTS of fun but it still felt like a charming little town. After I went back last year to Tulum and was horrified, I think I prefer to keep my memories of PV of the early 90s. La Terraza was my favorite gay bar, oh my, how many hot men I met there, when I was hot too! And the fabulous shows of stripper boys fucking papayas, wow! When I lived in Italy I went 4 times to Mykonos in the 80s. It was A M A Z I N G. Fun and gorgeous, and still with uncontaminated beaches. Yes, Pierros was amazing! I went back 10 years ago and I almost didn't recognize it. I know that I am not the same that I was in the 80s and 90s too....😬🤷♂️ Sorry if this post has nothing to do with PV Escorts. Acapulco was a lot of fun. I went to Acapulco in '85 with my then boyfriend and while it was fun, we didn't get a gay vibe there at all. On the beach in front of our hotel, all the guys were straight, many gorgeous but with their girlfriends. We didn't find one gay club. Also the water was filthy. I wouldn't go back. Epigonos
Pre covid19 I used to go to Puerto Vallarta twice a year once in November and once in March/April. The weather was great. The summers in P.V. are awful – extremely hot and humid. I always stayed in the old town in a condo overlooking the pier. Every city in the world has districts in which one should not walk around alone late at night. That is equally true of Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, London, Paris, and Rome as it is of Puerto Vallarta. I have always felt safe walking the streets of old town Puerto Vallarta regardless of the time of day or of night. I often walked home from the stripper bar Wet at one or two in the morning and never felt threatened. I have always enjoyed shopping for Mexican Arts & Crafts in a multitude of great shops in P.V. The only place, in Mexico, having better restaurants than Puerto Vallarta is Mexico City. To name just three: 1.) Trio wonderful continental food in a lovely setting, 2.) Café de Artistes patio dinning that is drop dead gorgeous and excellent food. It is pretentious but worth a visit, and 3.) No Se Nada Bar y Restaurante serves outstanding Mexican food. The fish is especially good. Now that covid19 seems to be winding down I am looking forward to returning to my old haunts in Puerto Vallarta. However, first, after a forty-year hiatus, I need to make a visit to Mexico City which I hope to do in November. P.S. Returning to topic over the years I have picked up, more than a few, damn good looking dancer from the stripper bar "Wet". Most are happy to make arrangements to meet after the bar closes or the next afternoon, at my condo, for some fun and games. There are a couple other stripper bars where similar arrangements can be made with the dancers. It is just that I have always preferred "Wet" Edited March 7, 2022 by Epigonos + José Soplanucas, + Vegas_Millennial, xyz48B and 1 other 3

Epigonos
To be totally honest WilliamM I found your response to my comment on urban safety petty. Now I'll state right up front that my response is going to be equally petty. Twenty or even ten years ago your comments regarding safety in Stockholm would have been correct. Not today. Like most cities in Europe the last ten years, in Stockholm, has seen a marked increase in criminal gang activities in several parts of the city. That is particularly true in the area adjoining the main railway station. This information can be found in police reports as well as online comments by city residents. The level of crime might NOT be as high as it is in some of the cities I sited BUT it is there and it behooves tourists to be aware of it Edited March 7, 2022 by Epigonos + Vegas_Millennial and Lazarus
maninsoma
Also note that the allegation about PV was that the cops will pick you up to shake you down if you are walking alone. I'm not saying that never happens in PV; I've certainly read about it before. I have to wonder whether I have been incredibly lucky as have my friends and all of the many acquaintances I've met during many trips to PV. I've never personally been harassed by the police there; my only interaction with law enforcement has been to walk by and acknowledge their presence with a nod or whatnot. I've never heard a first-hand account from someone who was harassed by the police. I only use a car service if I'm going to or from the airport, so that means I'm walking around day and night. Since I typically travel alone, I am frequently walking by myself. I've written here before: I feel much safer walking by myself in PV at midnight or 1:00 a.m. than I do where I live (San Francisco). If I'm out late here and at all intoxicated, I'd definitely get a Lyft home versus walking even 10 minutes. I don't even like walking around by myself at night when I'm totally sober. + Vegas_Millennial

It makes things a little less interesting, to me. I also felt that way about Santa Fe, but since it's an older, more monied crowd, at least they were more interesting to sit around, have a cocktail and chat with. Mexican PD shakedowns are much more common when driving through smaller places within the interior, but not so much in the standard touristy areas. They're smart enough to know not to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. As was told to me by friends who are nationals, have $100 in $20s available in the event you're pulled over and they confiscate your driver's license. It's a small price to pay to get your ID back and not spend any time in a Mexican jail.

Epigonos
In all my years of traveling in Mexico, frequently driving my own car, I was only hit up once for a bribe by a police officer. I was driving my jeep from the border to San Felipe on the Gulf of California. I played totally dump and continued to happily chat with the cop, in Spanish, until he finally got bored with the process and told be to be on my way. The lesson learned was to be nice and talk them to death. Damn I'm still quite good at that. + Vegas_Millennial

I actually enjoyed them for awhile back in the 80s. Also ski resorts are mostly remote isolated communities but do feature the food of the surrounding culture, especially the ones I have been to in Europe. + José Soplanucas

I have been to PV twice in the last year and have a friend who lives near Zona Romantica. I walked alone day and night and had zero issue and always felt safe. I have encountered police and have had no confrontation or hostility. I agree with the other person who stated that they felt safer walking alone in PV than they do in certain American cities. As others have said here, I am not saying things like this never happen (just as shootings, theft, crime and corruption also happen in American cities) but insinuating that it is the norm is completely inaccurate. thomas
