Though I've never visited, it's been a popular destination for many decades for all demographics. Could not agree more. It is a wonderful city now. Like most beach resorts and the new mega-hotel-resort complexes up on the north end, you still have a wonderful older core. You just have to see past the sameness of the new places and then you can soak up a great place just to walk around, have dinner, have drinks, meet lots of interesting people from all over the world, meet lots of interested Mexican people who live, work, vacation there, and, yes, you might meet people from anywhere who are interested in a fun time and sex. Nuevo Vallarta has a mix of things and is enough off the beaten path to avoid big crowds. Mismaloya to tell the rest of the world to fuck off and get some peace. It's just you. While I prefer the beaches and water on the Caribbean side, PV has a better combination of sea, sand, hills, lush vegetation, restaurants, friendly local people, period architecture and what I can only describe as 'authenticity'. It was a settlement long before tourism and it grew organically over time. I had no idea it was a popular gay destination until reading posts on this board, which clearly shows how oblivious I must be. By that I mean it's difficult to interact with locals and then not find yourself after a few minutes with someone who is expecting that your friendliness is going to lead to a money making situation for themselves. I'd say that the vast majority of "working men" there don't advertise. They just work the beach, some bars, strip clubs (of course) and the "gayborhood" in general.
