NPH must have had a clause in his contract requiring every pick-up / potential pick-up / date to tell Neil how handsome and hot he is. 😀

Right!?   I find him so NOT hot.   Not even a little.

Can confirm.  It's...  Unreal.

Plus, I've had a quiet dislike of him since watching him ruin Hedwig on Broadway.

I can't seem to wash away that memory.

The Sandman is ecellent.

As someone who loved the comic books (although I read it all in the versions published later as collections) I pretty much adore the series. A few changes but they actually are usually improvements. And they just released a surprise 11th episode!

I just finished Caronte on Amazon Prime Video, and I definitely recommend it.  The protagonist is an ex-cop who spent 10 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit.  He got a law degree while inside and now works to help the wrongfully accused.  He also seeks justice for the man who set him up, his old police commissioner.

After seeing Samuel Caronte work a case, the idealistic daughter of the fanciest lawyers in Madrid asks that they work as partners.  Marta likes his drive and principles, he needs her money and connections.  The two other series-long storylines are Caronte's strained relationship with his 17yo son who has spent most of his life raised by his stepfather, and Caronte's 2nd wife, who understands Caronte's mission but doesn't like the demands and dangers of the job.

Marta and Samuel work some interesting cases with great success while she struggles to fend off her parents' demands that she work for the family firm and while he struggles work things out with his first family (17yo son & ex-wife) and keep his second family (new wife is 3 months pregnant) happy.  Also in the mix is Samuel's ex-partner Aurelio, loyal to the death to Caronte, and as a bonus, the most likable gay character I've ever seen.  Another bonus is the actor who plays the ex-commisioner who framed Caronte makes the villain deliciously hate-able.

The scriptwriters wrap things up nicely in the 1 season run.  Unfortunately, the show was not renewed. 13 70-minute episodes, original dialogue in Spanish, English subtitles available but no English dubbing.

Thanks for the recommendation.  I've been enjoying it so far.

Having been a fan of the comic for 30 years, I'm...struggling with the show. The reason is their casting of Death.  And I know there's a lot of controversy about people complaining about the casting.  https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/08/01/magazine/neil-gaiman-interview.html

I am very very very wed to the original take on Death.  All the other changes are absolutely wonderful.  GO GO GO!  But Death, that ones harder.

Sometimes I am so damn weak.  Tease me with a bunch of hot guys showing some skin, and I can be lured into watching almost anything.  But in this case, I lucked out and happed upon a good documentary series, Spain's Elite Police: Beyond Limits.

Spain's GEO (Grupo Especial de Operaciones) works the most dangerous assignments:  drug wars, terrorist attacks, high-seas piracy.  As expected, the training course is brutal, 7.5 months of excruciating physical tests (killer obstacle courses, lots of endurance tests like an hour in freezing water, an hour in a sauna in full gear) and intensive training (shooting, armed entries, street combat, judo, boxing, rappelling, parachuting, navigating stormy seas).  100 trainees started the course; only 12 graduated and became GEO operatives.

All the guys were super-hot, although I did notice the dozen who finished the course seemed the most sculpted of the bunch.  The series didn't disappoint, showing the trainees shirtless a lot and in undies a few times (they had to endure the freezing water a bunch of times, always in just skivvies).  The men were separated from their families, wives, girlfriends for the entire time.  I couldn't help but wonder what all these strapping lads did for sexual release, 7.5 months is a hella long time, but of course the documentary didn't go into that.

On Amazon Prime Video, 8 45-minute episodes, English subtitles available but no English dubbing.

"ZeroZeroZero" (Amazon Prime in the U.S.) Italian produced drama about the global drug trade. Meticulously crafted and directed. Gorgeously shot. Very ambitious in its story-telling. But admittedly a little (appropriately) complicated and dense.

(Disclaimer: I still have 2 episodes to go. )

Just binged Zerzerozero.  Almost cut it off after the overly heavy voice-over narration of the first 20 minutes, but glad I stuck with it.  Turns quite good.

Élite fans, what did you think of Season 6?  I just finished it.  Every other season I binged like a bag of chips, but Season 6 was actually a struggle to get through:  too much wokeness, too many unlikable characters, not nearly enough skin nor sex.  With the previous t seasons, I couldn't stop myself from watching one episode after another whereas this season I kinda had to force myself to get through an episode.  Will Élite get its mojo back?

With Samuel gone, I didn’t realize how much I would stop caring. I tried watching episode one of season 6 and I felt the trans character was a forced Samuel replacement since they look similar.   I didn’t even finish first episode. The original cast was great so I feel the show has evolved into something I don’t care to get invested in.   I really dislike too much wokeness on shows.   Take Grey's Anatomy for example - the show has become more of something that is preaching to me than entertainment.   It’s too much.

It was a bitter disappointment. The season was like a car crash you can’t keep your eyes off and just go on watching. The plot is ridiculous: the kids live in a never ending drug, booze and party high. There are missed opportunities to treat serious issues like transgender or homophobia in a deeper and more meaningful way, beyond caricature. And yes, shallow me kept waiting and waiting for clear shots of Patrick (Manu Rios) naked or at least shirtless showing off his stunning body, or for  soft-porn gay sex scenes that never came. Too bad. The cliff-hanger at the end is not enough to entice me to watch next season which, to add insult to injury, most likely will have “no Patrick no more”.

RIP Élite, thank you for the fond memories

Agree! I just finished the last episode of this season….and was relieved it’s done. Too bad, was so well paced and interesting in the last seasons.

My Thanksgiving weekend binge was Frayed on HBO… an Australian hot mess of a dramedy soap in 80s Newcastle with the most brilliantly unlikeable characters that I couldn’t stop watching. Two 6 episode seasons. No formal announcement yet on season 3.

This! I’ve twiced stopped mid-show to go to bed and finish the next day….disappointing.

It's like Degrassi with adding characters as your favorite ones graduate. I miss first season crew and Cayetana, making her a janitor to keep her around was hilarious

Was killing off my sweet Samu a big mistake for the show runners?

I'm a bit concerned that the actor's IMDb page isn't showing any current or future projects.  Please tell me it's because Escamilla just needed a break, not for lack of offers.

Despite the terrible disappointment of Season 6, wild horses couldn't drag me away from Season 7.  I refuse to give up hope on my favorite guilty pleasure!  Now if Season 7 also sucks, oh boy, we got a problem.
