I travel to SF frequently, and am really sad at how far down it has gone. I don't feel especially unsafe, but it just isn't a nice place to be. Formerly I'd extend my business trip by a few days if I could. Now I get in and out at quickly as I can. Really too bad.

I once was included on a mass mailing sent by an escort letting them know we has going to be in town. HUGH faux pas!  It looked like at least most of the emails were burners.

Not in NY, but I think these sort of shared spaces are fairly common.

Indeed. And I had the impression that at least at home the Germans were trained to sit, not stand.

Veering off topic, I know, but I was listening to Dan Savage tonight talk about the Chicago book shops where he as a gay Catholic school boy bought books that the school library would never have, and how they let him sit for hours reading those that he couldn't even contemplate buying and taking home.

Or, put them in of those little take one leave one library boxes and watch the little old ladies blush and then slip one into their purse. Hours of entertainment

He might have been a business legend. I wouldn’t consider him a culinary legend.

spider got a reaction from + ButchAtl in Does anyone answer the phone anymore?
I never answer if I don’t know who they are. Any repeat known caller I add to my contacts so they come up by name.

My phone is always on silent so unless I happen to be online when they call, everything goes into either missed calls or voicemail. I reply to anything important quickly. I check my phone frequently, so replies to legit callers don’t wait long.

Unknown calls also go into missed calls. If they leave a voicemail I will listen and reply if it’s from someone legit. I do a lot of gig work so it isn’t unusual to get calls from unknown callers, although this is increasingly via text. Those I reply to. I’d say maybe 1 in 100 from someone unknown is a legit call and I figure if they want me they’ll leave a message.

I have T-Mobile Simple Choice, I think that plan may be obsolete but I'm grandfathered. I do think they have a new similar plan. I pay one monthly charge and it's good almost globally, with just a few exceptions. It just works. The data is slow speed but does work. When I need something fast I can usually find WiFI for the price of a cup of coffee, and hotels these days usually include it.

This. As a somewhat older, but not over the hill gentleman I was thoroughly dismissed and shamed and left almost as soo as I arrived. Snottiest place I've been.
