Haha..Colbert is pretty smart too and probably knows more about super-nerdy things like Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons. But yeah Obama probably wins that one.

I would love to have a Presidents' Challenge on Jeopardy. Carter would be good on biblical passages, third world elections and justice. Bush would be good with oil, horses and painting. Clinton would be good on economics and global issues. Obama would be good with popular music, basketball/sports and the law. And with Trump we might get the first Porn Star category.

re-upping this since my original link is out of date.......jesus, Hoda and Kathy Lee are stupid........f-bomb at 1:30!

I saw Elaine Stritch many times including as Lillian Helman in a play, and a brief revival of musical "Sail Away" on what would have been Noel Coward's 100 the birthday in 1999. She was wonderful on stage, less so off-stage.

I feel the same way about Sutton Foster, one of my favorite on stage actresses but I've never been impressed with her off stage TV performances.

Elaine was great when I saw her in Little Night Music and her one woman show at the Liberty. She did a TV show that is on DVD called Two's company and I didn't think she was that great in that or in Third Rock (I thought she was funny in Monster in Law and I laughed really hard when she went to the hospital to tell James Galdofini off in Romance and Cigarettes--typical elaine in that scene).

I wish they would release the show "Nobody's Business" in US DVD format. I heard it was a British version of Maude she started in. I always thought she would have been great playing Maude.

I let Bob Hope out of limousines twice at college football games. However, most of the celebrities I've met/seen up close have been at stage doors on Broadway. Let's see, some of the bigger names include (you may not recognize some of these names unless you are a fan of Broadway shows) Sir Ian McKellan, Billy Crudup, Constantine Maroullis, Katherine Zeta Jones, Bebe Neworth, Daniel Radcliffe, Noah Galvin, Andy Karl, Michael Cerveris, Ramin Karimloo, Will Swenson (Les Miz, and he stood on my seat in Hair and messed my air up), Andy Mientus, Gavin Creel (Tony for Hello Dolly and laid on me in Hair), David Hyde Pierce, Beanie Feldstein, Brian D'Arcy James, and a bunch of Newsies. President Clinton. Josh Duhamel on a plane to Rome and the Rome airport. Chris O'Dowd and James Franco did a 20 minute scene just 6 feet in front of me in Of Mice and Men, but I guess that doesn't really count (Franco even splashed me with water from a fake stream). President Clinton.

I shook hands with Jesse Jackson.

A celebrity that I admire cut in front of me at a Malcom Gladwell book signing. I won't mention her name because people will judge.

So, at book signings, I've met James Franco, Malcom Gladwell and Burt Bacharach.

I live in LA, so I've stood or sat next to too many celebrities to name, mostly at theaters, movies, concerts and so on. I always figure they are just people too so I remain shy and demure. My friend Enrique did go rushing up to George Takeii at the Ace Hotel Theater so we sort of met him, although he seemed to want to get away from us. ;)

I worked at a noted French restaurant called the Quorum in Denver when I went to school there. It was the sort of place where important people tended to turn up. I'm not certain that having waited on a celebrity counts as having met them, but I waited on Tammie Wynette, Anthony Quinn, Werner Klemperer. Judy Collins, Chogyam Trungpa, OJ.

I also waited on Checkers Smaldone, the local mob boss and his son Gino. Checkers had a bullet crease in his skull.
