Gas Prices In Your Area

I just returned from a trip from Palm Springs to Austin. Driving east, the gas was cheaper at every stop, as low as $4.09 for premium in Texas. Coming back, even though I didn't need it yet, I stopped and filled the tank in Yuma, last stop before California prices.

I always fill up in Yuma when traveling from Phoenix to San Diego and in Quartzsite when traveling to Palm Springs.

BTW: The lowest-priced Chevron in Phoenix is charging $5.21 for a gallon of regular gas.

I just filled my car at my local station: $6.29/gal for regular.

The person who used the the pump before me left the receipt at the pump: $170.88! It was obviously a pretty big tank.

Some heavy-duty pickups have an option of a 30-gallon tank.  Bad enough when gas was $2.50. $170.88 to fill up?  Yikes!!

Guys with big tanks are probably looking for some comfort now!

My brother in law works from home now and rarely goes anywhere far, so he let his gas tank go down to nearly E.  He has a 23 gallon tank.  He went to Costco (or BJs) to fill up & the pump cut off at $100 because there's a $100 limit for credit cards.

And now, a public service announcement...

Stephen Fry: ‘My life is changed forever’

Fry, 64, shared with his 12.4 million Twitter followers the meaning of the little triangle next to the fuel gauge icon.

“Well, simmer me in prune juice and call me Daisy. Hey, whatever turns you on!  I never knew till now that you can tell which side of a car the filler cap is on by a little arrow next to the petrol pump icon,” he tweeted.

“64 years on the planet shrouded in ignorance. My life is changed forever,” the actor continued.

Ford CEO Jim Farley responded to Fry on Twitter, sharing the backstory for the feature.

“The idea for this indicator icon was recommended by a @Ford engineer named Jim Moylan in 1986,” Farley shared.

“It was such a useful idea it eventually spread to other manufacturers,” he added.

Farley shared the original letter pitching the idea, which included an illustration.

“The indicator or symbol I have in mind would be located near the fuel gauge and simply describe to the driver on which side of the vehicle the fuel filler door is located,” Moylan wrote in April 1986.

“Based on personal experience…I feel that this little indicator would remove the guesswork of which side I want to park,” the letter said.

The icon was first used in the 1989 Ford Escort and Mercury Tracer and later adopted by other automakers, according to Fox.

Somebody tell Rita Rudner about this... she used to have a joke in her act about having a rotating gas tank... whichever side of the pump she pulled up to, the gas cap was on the other side.

I have two cars, one with the gas cap on the left and other one on the right. Those little triangles are very helpful in reminding me which side of the pump to pull up to.

The older one gets, the more help one needs! 🤪

NY's gas tax holiday went into effect yesterday and will go through the end of the year.

FL governor DeSantis recently signed a tax package that includes:

9. Gas tax suspension: Oct. 1 — Oct 31, 2022

To alleviate record-high gas prices, lawmakers this year agreed to suspend collection of the state’s gas tax for a month (notably, the month before the November election, when DeSantis and every legislative seat is up for election).

You could edit this post if you want. You know, just for the hell of it. 😉

Yes, but then @Charlie 's remark and my pithy response wouldn't make sense.

I think you have confused Montana with Oregon.

Eh, once you get west of the Mississippi they're all the same.
