Fewer hot guys?

I feel like a few years back there was a higher percentage of really hot guys on site like rent.men (and similar).

I see guys on social media and wonder where can I hire guys who look like this?

is it just me or my area or is this an actual thing?

I haven't been around that long, but Im wondering if it's cyclical. There are a lot of influencers and OF folks that have either made money or are realizing the money isn't there any more.

As someone who has no interest in paid online interactions,  the idea of paying for someone's live stream or OF content doesn't even tempt me, but if those sources of income continue to dry up, and/or college graduates with useless degrees realize they need to start making money,  maybe things will improve.

I genuinely don’t understand how people can make any significant amount of money from OF etc when there is so much free porn available.

Because some people find value in porn and don't mind paying for it?  I'm not trying to be all high-and-mighty.  I certainly watch some "free porn" online, but I view it similarly to music -- if I like the content enough, I pay the artist by buying physical copies of their music and maybe tickets to a show.  If I like a guy's porn scenes that I can see "for free" online, I will likely subscribe to his OnlyFans page for at least a month and maybe longer if he's smart enough to post enough compelling content on an ongoing basis.  I don't begrudge someone trying to make a living by making porn.  If no one paid for that content, it would largely cease to exist or it would be more like the early days of Xtube (amateur videos using a single stationary camera with poor lighting).

Back to the notion that fewer hot guys are advertising on sites like Rent.men, I don't know that I believe that.  In my area, at least, I think there are the same number of hot guys -- it's just that they are a smaller percentage of the men advertising in my area because there are so many more men advertising.  There are currently over 300 listings in San Francisco.  Also, if I am going to define "hot" as model-good-looking, I'd argue that it's always been the case that the majority of guys advertising are not "hot."  Fortunately I find a lot of men sexually attractive and, frankly, because my experience has been that the "hottest" guys don't always make the "hottest" bed partners I'm more drawn to a guy whom I find sexy but is maybe a bit less traditionally handsome.  Sometimes "hot" guys are really boring in bed.

And … allow me to add that there is a whole debate over what constitutes a “hot” man … or what it is that makes a man “hot”. We all have a different definition and we all have different criteria. Without going into specifics, my tastes are somewhat “left of center” and while I certainly see a lot of attractive men on RM, many of them don’t appeal to me or are what I consider to be “hot”. So, yes, by my standards I could say there is a lack of “hot” men.
 

I tried both OF and JFF for a period of time but just found both to be a waste of my time and money.

 

My “desire” is diminishing as I get older and sex is becoming just another reason to have to take off my pants. There are still men who turn my head and who, better yet, have the ability to engage the launch sequence, and I enjoy those hires. But, circling back, “hot” has many different definitions and connotations.

I absolutely agree with you on “paint & piercing”. I surprised myself by hiring a man with a beard and he became a regular for me and has taken very, very good care of me for the past few years. Shaved heads, to me, can be sexy, but to each his own. 
 

Personally, I’d like to see more smiles. Smiles are sexy. And, to me, hot.

As a twink and jock lover, I could not agree more about the slim pickings this day and age.  When rentboy, m4rn, mer, and other sites were still up and runnng, I would page through them and almost always find a few stunners who would actually communicate with you and meet up.  When I see a hot guy 18-25 now, half the time it’s AI pics or a guy that is just trying to direct you to their only fans stuff.  I am sure there are probably a few OF on X that would meet, but good luck finding them.

I agree, but it's still hard to find a typical beauty. I'm probably in the minority, but only a handful of guys on RM is my cup of tea. The fun part is the quest

The quest is indeed fun!

I have been hiring in NYC for 30+ years.  In the beginning I was picking up gays at ShowPalace, Gayety, Cats and other bars in HK.  When they were male, available and looked OK, I hired.  Now, 30 years later, I find that over time my tastes and preferences have gotten a lot more specific.  It can indeed be a quest to find a guy who comes close to that.  The number of escorts in NYC has skyrocketed, but I have become more picky.  I am lucky to have 3-4 guys whom I really like and give a repeat business to.  

In conclusion, the more we hire, the longer we hire, the more challenging it can become.

I don't think there's less hot guys per say. I think trends for what is considered attractive have changed over time and some clients tastes haven't moved in the same direction. The way guys present themselves or curate their look is different and that alienates clients who have a type that is maybe falling out of favor. I think the tattoo/piercing dislike here on the forum is a good example of that as tattoos/piercings are more socially accepted and more people are getting them, but it's happening in other areas of style/aesthetic too as Millennial escorts age out and more Gen Z guys enter the biz.

If you're still looking for your 2000s/early 2010s era Sean Cody looking guy or whatever it may be, you're going to find less and less of that just by nature of the time that's passed.

I think overall compared to 15-20 years ago there are more guys open to hire. Instagram, a4a and others are free. RM costs. 
 

If they’re hot enough to get the business and be fully booked (as much ad they’d like), RM just isn’t worth it.
 

I think they’re out there but maybe for some guys…just not on RM.

I haven't noticed a decrease in "hot" guys. What I find is a lot of guys who look the same - very same muscular bodies, all trying to look "butch", etc. I'd like more diversity of looks. 

I suspect that if you're comparing RM to Instagram, a lot of those guys are using filters, have had work done, etc. But I don't think there's fewer "hot" guys.

I think it's a much lower hurdle to  snap some pictures and get 5 bucks on OF from 100 people than 500 bucks in person from one or two people AND have to touch them.

I always think it is incumbent on clients to make themselves as presentable as possible. And that includes taking care of one’s body and trying to keep fit, practice good oral hygiene and staying flexible!
