I’m a bottom but my favourite pornstars are primarily tops who bottom occasionally and seem to enjoy it.

What do you mean by projection? Meaning wanting to be the person who’s topping the bottom in the video?

It wouldn’t be projection because this example would be considered the transfer of a neutral quality to another, and that is not a defense mechanism per se. In contrast, attributing one’s own disavowed negative or undesirable traits to another in order to protect one’s ego is classic projection, but you aren’t describing tops in a negative light … unless you think they are shitty at topping, which could represent a projection of your own misgivings about topping skills. The latter is just an example. 

Besides, if they’re tops there’s a bottom present, short of solo masturbation by the top wherein interactive position is neutralized. If you consider bottoms in erotica in comparative derogatory terms, eg, “that is beneath me”, you may be manifesting projection, particularly since the bottom is absolutely essential to your identification with the top. If you wish to reduce any tendency towards psychological projection you’re better off being a side. That said, projection is common and potentially self-soothing. 

Spread ‘em for psychological health and ego intactness. Insert, receive, rinse & repeat. Otherwise, you are falling short of fully realized sexual self-actualization. Such judgment could be considered projection on my part.

Yeah, I guess I imagine myself as the top. I tend to try to find tops that look a bit like me.
