whatdoidowiththisagain Posted February 11 Posted February 11 A guy I want to see is charging a lot to travel ~2.5 hours to me one way. So I was thinking maybe I should just book a cheap hotel near where he lives since he has room mates and can't host. Trouble is, I'm concerned about the awkwardness of checking out of my hotel 2 hours after i just checked in. Do people still do this even? I've always checked out just in case. Have you guys ever encountered this? I would imagine the front desk knows what you did , do they even care or are some liable to snitch?
big-n-tall Posted February 11 Posted February 11 (edited) A lot of hotels nowadays, you don't have to actually check out. Some chains will allow you to do it via the hotel's app. While others you literally don't have to physically check out the next day. For the app check out, you could be at home to do it the next day. Honestly, I don't think checking out is a requirement any more. Well at least for chain hotels. Edited February 11 by big-n-tall + azdr0710, jeezifonly, + Just Sayin and 9 others 2 7 3
acks0104 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I truly don't think most workers care at all. As long as you're not being a hassle to them by being rude or demanding they're not going to think much about you. liubit, + Pensant, Act25 and 4 others 3 4
Yukon21 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 (edited) Check your area on the website "dayuse" .com. Decent hotels in your area may offer 4-6 hour windows for rent at significantly reduced rates. The concept really took off during covid when people worked using video meetings and couldnt be effective with kids running around in the background. jmichaeliii Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I do it all the time. No one cares. Like the person above said, just don't be a jackass to the employees and they will stay out of your business. Whippoorwill, MikeBiDude, + Just Sayin and 5 others 3 5
Shawn Monroe Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Don’t check out. Just leave and they’ll automatically check you out. Or you can do it on an app if it’s a chain. + Pensant, caramelsub, Whippoorwill and 6 others 9

viewing ownly Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Why not offer this guy you're seeing to have the room since you have no use for it yourself? He might appreciate the escape from roommates for a night. P.S. check the room clock if there is one to see that the alarm isn't on. Danny-Darko Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) Many hotels used to have "Day Rooms" if they had open rooms empty during the day. That means they are not always available. More likely to find during the slow season or away from busy tourist areas. People not only took them for discreet liaisons but also business purpose or for resting and washing up before leavening to go somewhere, day trips, long layovers between flights among other reasons. The key was always discretion when it was two people going up to the room or leaving. Nowadays most hotels in the US have self-checkout done on cell phone app or online and dropping the keycard in a designated box at the counter. Front Dest personnel hardly look up to say "Self-Checkout? OK, have a good day!". Edited February 12 by Danny-Darko dutchal and Whippoorwill 2

Oakman Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Checking out of a hotel room is about as necessary as telling the hostess at a restaurant that you’ve left your table. Sure, she’s going to politely acknowledge you, but she doesn’t need to know. Neither does the front desk at a hotel. You aren’t turning in keys anymore, and your credit card transaction was already arranged. Just leave, bro. pubic_assistance and Norcalbidad 1 1

They care about one thing, and one thing only: $$$$$$. Pay your bill, and you can sit up there and play chess matches for five hours if you wish - they don't care. Don't people do this? I thought that's why we tip 15%. Give 10% to your waiter, then give 5% to your host on the way out to divide amongst the beverage waiter, busser, apprentice, etc. I checkout at a hotel to return the room key and to ask for a printed statement of charges before I leave, and often ask them to hold my luggage for a few hours. + azdr0710, Ali Gator, + Lucky and 1 other 1 3
Whippoorwill Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) Why would a hotel care who you are fucking in your room? A major purpose of hotels has always been a place for guys to be getting a little on the side. Believe me, you won't be the only one there doing the same thing. Pay your bill. Don't cause any hassle. Don't destroy the room. In less you are staying in a mom and pop run by religious fanatics, they don't care who you're bopping in there...which reminds me, in the 1960s when I was maybe 20, my "roommate" and I and two girls took a weekend trip and went to check into a small rural motel, asking for two rooms. The female inkeeper said "I don't rent to unmarried couples". We had to convince her we were not two couples but "two boys and two girls, and the boys would be in one room and the girls in another". She relented. And that's what we did. This was in the era before "gay" would have ever entered her mind, and grand old times were had in each room. + azdr0710 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I am one of those freaks who likes to officially check-out in person at the desk on the morning of check out. I like to check if I'm free and clear, let them know I'm out of the room, turn in the key, and say thank you. However, it's mostly true that cheap/moderate chains at which you pay at check-in don't particularly expect you to check out in person, as long as it's before check-out time. + Summerson, pubic_assistance, + Vegas_Millennial and 3 others 2 1 3
+ Lucky Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I like to see what, if any, extra charges have been added to the bill. Better to challenge them in person. pubic_assistance, + azdr0710, + Vegas_Millennial and 1 other 1 1 2

Exactly. Every hotel I've stayed in for the last 20 years uses card keys that you can just leave in your room when you're done. Absolutely NO reason to notify the desk of your departure. liubit and + jeezopete 2
aiseeya Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I always do in-peeson checkout...if not just due to habbit. Nonetheless, front desk wont care if you have a companion. Or you can easily check out by yourself and have your companion wait at the lobby. I would go as far as putting my regular's name on the booking just so he can pick room key up at the front desk when he arrives....safe me time going down to lobby. Danny-Darko 1
