Rod Hagen Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 (edited) I avoid anything but the lightest amount of garlic, it fucks with my stomach, intensely The worst is, I'm deathly allergic to beans. Lo siento, pero Yo soy allergico a los Frejoles. No es possible. Es possible. Lo siento. Yo prefiermos mas arroz, pero no Frejoles. Gracias. (when you speak, the listener/waiter only knows that your saying it wrong, not also that you are spelling it wrong). samhexum Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 I don't like mayo or ketchup (although I like ketchup baked onto the top of a meatloaf) so I eat french fries plain, unlike the freaks in Europe, who like them with mayo and the freaks in this country who like them with ketchup. + Just Chuck and pubic_assistance 2

+ PhileasFogg Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Onions, peppers, garlic, gluten, dairy….yeah, my oven is REAL clean Oh yeah…and I avoid sugar too but, I’m accustomed to it and have no complaints. no, I’m not celiac, but I have a direct cause/effect outcome. Dairy causes my retired complexion to act like a teenager. Onions and peppers make me belch. Garlic makes me self conscious. pubic_assistance, samhexum and + Just Chuck 1 1 1
+ Lucky Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Garlic overwhelms the taste of the other ingredients plus it gives its consumer bad breath. I HATE it! Rod Hagen, pubic_assistance and + PhileasFogg 2 1

pubic_assistance Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 I have a few friends who are allergic to onions and garlic and so is my father. Sadly my entire repertoire of recipes starts with either garlic or onion.....so I can't invite any of these people to dinner under normal circumstances. I find food that doesn't have onion or garlic to be bland. Even though I grew up never eating it all through my childhood because of my father. (Also Pennsylvania Dutch cooking doesn't call for much onion and never garlic) so traditional restaurants in the area are never a problem for him. Nearly Impossible for him to dine at Italian, Mexican and Chinese restaurants. + Charlie 1
ShortCutie7 Posted Thursday at 02:33 AM Author Posted Thursday at 02:33 AM Bumping this thread because I recently had an allergic reaction to garlic, which made me incredibly sad because unlike onions, I LOVE garlic… so now my diet will be even more limited 😢 CuriousByNature 1
+ Just Chuck Posted Thursday at 11:21 PM Posted Thursday at 11:21 PM I have two different groups of foods that I actually love but have to avoid. 1) I have IBS. So, a starting point from there is to avoid spicy, greasy, and dairy. Then there is a long list of potential trigger produce items that any individual with IBS might be sensitive to. 2) I gave myself a nut allergy. I learned from raising dogs that if you give your dog the exact same dogfood all the time, they are likely to become allergic to some ingredients from overexposure. I was making a version of my own trail mix and eating that for breakfast everyday. Almonds were (still would be) a favorite of mine. Then, I started being itchy all the time. Then, I noticed more and more and with stronger and stronger reactions that it was my breakfast doing it. Now, I can touch an almond to my lips and my whole mouth and throat become inflamed and itchy. liubit and ShortCutie7 1 1

That's a well known (if not widely known) allergy. I thought it was an Australian thing, but while it was first identified here early this century, apparently there are ticks on six continents that are linked to it. The sugar molecule that causes it is not found in primates, so presumably primate meat would not trigger an allergic reaction, but that is not particularly useful dietary information. For most of us. That's hit my family in Oklahoma too. I have nightmares about ticks from having dozens of them on me at a time from playing in the woods as a kid. Then, when I worked at a hospital in 1990-1992, I remember being in the ER when they brought in an elderly (alcoholic) man who went out hunting and sat at the base of a tree as HUNDREDS of ticks attached to him. He was barely alive when he came in. He was dying of a sepsis reaction to infection. Whole parts of him just looked like sheets of brown scales instead of skin.
