Should gay porno embrace body positivity?

Porn gets made that sells to somebody, it's purely market driven, good intentions aren't gonna bring in paying subscribers.

That said, there's something out there for everybody, especially in this age of post-studio era, do-it-yourself porn. I personally have always found conventional commercial porn, and the men hired to perform in it, deadly dull, of no real interest at all. I certainly have never paid for it. There's plenty of porn out there featuring performers similar to every one of the models shown at the top of this thread. (With the exception, perhaps, of the model whose features suggest Down Syndrome.) The markets for "niche" performers are obviously smaller, but they certainly exist.

Somebody just revived the venerable "Bear Magazine" brand, which was seen as game-changing in the late-80s. It was the first time a commercial producer really stepped outside the presumed tastes of gay porn customers of the time, and was met with runaway success.

While physical appearance matters to me, it's not the most important thing. I care more about the vibe, the scenario and what they're doing. Plus, I find a pretty wide variety of types attractive. I'm not hooked on a particular body shape or younger/older or one particular ethnicity, etc. So I'm all for porn casting a wider net.

My ideal porno scene: Two masculine, verbal tops talking a shy, reluctant bottom into having sex and then pushing his limits. And if they happen to be "average Joes" vs. model looks, that's fine.

That may be.  But I'm not looking to sleep with everyone in the whole world.  The few thousand I've attracted so far has been plenty.

Similarly, I don't need to find the few escorts that are out of my price range and try to get them to discount their rate for me based on my handsome good looks.  There are plenty of escorts out there.  And while I've hired fewer of them in the U.S. since RentMen prices were taken down, the ones I do hire I see more often if only because I know what price to expect and what service to expect.

As an aside - when I’ve seen pics of spouses of providers - or in some cases even met them - while many are indeed magazine cover gorgeous like their partner … they’ve often been surprisingly “normal” and sometimes do fall into “not good looking” / “less good looking” buckets some of us obsess over. Including obese. The kind you wouldn’t expect to say typically”I’m dating a porn star …”

I'm just quoting you guys on here not to drag another thread out of subject and to bump this interesting thread.

If SO many providers are truly into overweight men how come, we don't see them represented in gay porno?

I would personally be happy if I see more diversity when it comes to guys who don't have tattoos. Is that even possible nowadays?

I find it so funny that some people here are obsessed with tattoos. Only a little over a quarter of men have even one tattoo. Most of the guys in porn don't have any. Most of the providers don't have any.

So I don't know why you and others are obsessed with the maybe half - if we adjust for generations where younger people might have more -  of providers and porn stars have them.

Tattoos are more common among in shape younger guys, most pornstars have tattoos unless you only watch BelAmi.

Obsessed? Is just an observation.

Off the top of my head, I can think of four providers with no tattoos who are young, and in shape. Two of them also do porn.

I can understand not being into someone heavily tattooed. But if a guy has one or even a few discrete tattoos but is otherwise your type, I cannot fathom caring about it.

But we're also due for the quarterly hysteria over guys wearing nail polish, so what do I know?

I prefer more average and diverse-looking guys in porn. Similar to what advertising and porn have done to women, gay men constantly pressure each other to appear like the statue of David (or better). It's very unhealthy for us, individually and collectively.

As others have said, porn for many if not most men is about a fantasy, an ideal, either in terms of the situation (romance or domination, for example) or in terms of the partner (the epitome of the physical form, as in handsome or muscular or both). For myself, the same applies to the escorts I might engage because I'm not looking to pay for sex with me in a mirror. If others, as you've said of yourself, are more into realism than fantasy fulfillment, your options and opportunities are more numerous and diverse, and you may be thankful for that.

I think of OF creators like Seattle Dad who were denied entry intomporn but found a wide audience on their own.  Body positivity in porn doesn't have to embrace people who look, well, like me, but there is room for sexiness in multiple shapes and ages. Guys with tummies can be hot, guys with big bellies can be hot, guys over 60 can be really hot, guys without strong muscle definition can be hot, etc.

When I think back to the best sex I've ever had,  it has mostly been with average guys who couldn't make 25 cents in porn.

Dude, you don't have to be so degrading in your comments. You can simply say that he is not your type or this coupling doesn't pique your interest or don't  say anything at all. But to be cruel, it's so not necessary.

Gay porno will never embrace body positivity for the same reason why body positivity has never been embraced in the gay community overall:

ALL Men are shallow.  This includes “victims” of body positivity.

Men of all body types want the same range of physical aesthetics (lean, righted, muscled, athletic)  in a man and are very discerning about it too.

Men in general (of all sexual orientations), have a sense of hipocrisy when it comes to the requirements they have for others’ appearance…. A straight man will judge women’s faces and bodies with hard  critiques as he hasn’t seen a gym since middle school and can’t find his penis because his apron beer belly has been obstructing it’s view for the past 20 years.

And with gay men, it’s just about the same. I remember being in a social setting when this guy was whining about his inability to find a man….. when he told me what he was looking for, I figured out why he’s having problems…. He’s searching for 10s and he’s a universal 3 at best.

What he  @pubic_assistancesaid reflects the actual reality of what gay men say to themselves and to each other when they see images like this.

Hard Truth: Gay men (for the most part) are mean to each other. In fact, so mean, that there are tons of social media posts, Reddit threads and discussion points on the topic.

It’s also important to understand gay porn’s foundational beginnings….

One of the first gay porn studios (it was either Colt or Falcon), had strict requirements in their films….the actors were required to be:

1.) Young

2.) Fit

3.) White (preferably blonde). And in this particular studio, if black actors performed, they either played secondary roles (as like the hotel doorman or something), of if in a sex scene, could only Top and never Bottom.

4.) Masculine presenting

5.) and the soles of their feet had to be clean (there are a lot of films (of all genres), that neglected to address this issue and would accidentally capture male performers with dirty feet.

This same studio was also made aware (in advance) of the pending AIDS epidemic, didn’t inform their actors and still pressured them into condomless sex, which killed an entire generation of young porn actors.

Once  I find the documentary, I’ll post it here.
