That is a Sh*tload of cash

Watching mindless TV can make you think. This item raised many questions for me.

On Dish Nation today they mentioned that a singer named Letto, of whom I admit to having never heard, was spotted and photographed wearing the same panties on two occasions and surprisingly on each occasion the G staring panties were above her pant line.  After being called out for this, she called out the "panty police" and promptly sent out a pic of her having numerous pairs of leopard panties and with that she put one pair up for sale on a web site for an initial bid of $.99.  The panties eventually sold for $95,100 dollars.

The most I have ever spent on an item of clothing was $2300 for a custom tailored suit.

I have never bought someone else's used clothing, but I did once buy my nephew a $500 dollar aviator jacket.  He was 1 year old at the time.  That jacket is still being passed down in the family more than 25 years latter.

Realizing that the wealth of the posters here varies tremendously, I expect the answers to vary dramatically.

So what is the most you have ever spent on an item of clothing for yourself?

Have you ever bought someone else's clothing used?

Is there anyone whose used underwear you would purchase?

Like you I don't spend huge amounts on individual items of clothing. Once I bought a leather and fur reversible winter jacket for $200 dollars at an estate sale that was in like new condition.

The leather was supple and top grade but it was the fur that turned out to be Russian blue point sable. $25 to 35 Thousand brand new. I still wear it and it has held up beautifully.

Michael Jackson’s glove had been auctioned for an huge amount of money. I guess that panty you mentioned was also bought as a collector item by someone. It may not be a wise investment but there is few good options right now if you have a lot of cash to invest.

I confess to spending a fair amount on clothes. I recently bought black leather and merino wool fleece car coat from Orvis for $3200, made in the US. Three years ago I spent the same for a custom made navy cashmere overcoat. I have two pairs of Alden cordovan leather boots, one in black and one in #8 cordovan that were around $800. And on and on.

A mint condition Langlitz Columbia leather biker jacket about 10 years ago for $1,200. It was custom made and fits like it was tailored for me. It still has an incredible aroma, the leather still squeaks and crackles and I’ve worn it to dozens of different occasions - dressed up with a shirt and tie for a wedding and with sandals and shorts bar-hopping in Vegas. And maybe a time or two, or fifty, to meet some hot dude for “rent” time. I could probably double or triple the $ today if I sold it. Like never will happen.

I don't remember what I spent for any item of clothing, but it was never outrageous. The most expensive things I buy now are tennis shoes, which cost more than I used to pay for a good suit (about $140). I hardly ever throw any clothing away unless it is damaged--I still wear a couple of the sweaters I wore in college sixty years ago, including a nice cashmere sweater that I inherited from my father.

I could recite what I spend for shoes, a coat, etc at Prada and wherever but who cares?

Seems like you are saying that you don't care because you can afford it.  I am not a clothes horse and as a result I remember what I consider to be extravagant purchases, none of them made at Gucci, Versace or Prada.  Not sure I would spend it there even if I could but who knows.

I’m saying I don’t think anyone cares what I or anyone else buys so why are we discussing who spends money on clothes.

That was one of only three questions.   And while it seems you do not want to discuss it, despite the name drop,  others have.  No shoe fits every foot.

When I was working in Europe 4 decades ago, my employer gave me an annual clothing allowance which I could spent every year. I used it to buy expensive items in Paris (Daniel Heckter), Milan and Florence ( Armani, Fiorucci) as examples. Those would be items I liked for casual wear like leather jackets and belts.

For the office I bought mid range suits and shirts as I didn't want the boss to think I was being extravagent. My claims always went through without question.

In 1968, I paid $125 for a lovely cream-colored Nehru jacket, or a little over $1,100 adjusted for inflation. At that time, it was a significant outlay.

By the time I got home with it, it had gone out of style and was never worn anywhere but in my room. Twice.

On my first trip to London in 1969 as a young man, I stupidly bought a pair of nice leather sporty shoes at Harrods. I tried them on in the display room on a nice plush carpet where they felt good. At home the first time I wore them my feet hurt after about an hour walking in them.

I still have them to remind me what a fool I was. I never wore them again and even today hate buying shoes.

First, ewwwww!  I’ve seen that booty on Latto and it’s likely that string went deep in that crack 😝

I don’t wear suits anymore, but my sport coats are generally $2-3,000

i bought some barely used Bruno Magli’s on eBay twice.  Wore them for years.

I don’t think I’d ever have cause to wear someone else’s underwear….itwould take extreme circumstances.   I wouldn’t share EarPods either ;)

About $12,000 on a Loro Piana fur lined coat.
20 years later it still looks great and I still wear it all winter.
Best investment ever.
And 20 years ago…it certainly was an "investment" for me.

About 10 years ago I decided to stop buying “disposable"
clothing that I had to replace every year. I started buying
"quality’ but not "extravagant" pieces. At first, my clothing
budget skyrocketed, but now I can say I honestly spend less
each year than I did when I was buying "cheap" clothes and
my wardrobe is 100 times nicer.

Back in the day, if there was a "vintage" piece that I really
wanted, I might buy it used on eBay. That habit died quickly
once I had enough $$ to always buy new. Quite frankly my
eBay purchases were frequently crap and often counterfeit.

No.

In fact, I think it’s funny when an escort suggests that I might
want some item of used clothing. I don’t want your literal
dirty laundry. Nonetheless, I try to graciously accept it in the
spirit in which it was offered. And then dispose of it as discretely as possible.

Ok, so maybe I did sniff a speedo once before I ditched it….

Sue me!

When I was walking the dog this morning, a neighbor pointed out that there was a hole in the ass of the sweatpants I was wearing (the temperature was only 40F. in Palm Springs this morning). I bought the sweatpants from a cardboard box in front of a used clothing store in South Philly about 20 years ago, so I suppose it is time to replace them. What do durable sweatpants cost nowadays?

Baseball player, retired, Derek Jeter says he once wore a gold thong to try to get his batting average up. I'll bet plenty of Yankee fans would pay for that piece of historic clothing!
