A question for clients (and providers): Too many pictures or not enough?

One thing I’ve noticed in many guys ads lately, especially the ones who seem to pop up out of nowhere: it’s often there’s only no more than 10 pictures in the ad. RentMen does allow like 50 in the main ad and I think 100 between private and public.

It has me wondering because I knew someone couple years ago (who hired me) state something like, “maybe you have too many pictures, and people are seeing everything they need and are less likely to be serious” (even though I don’t particularly buy that philosophy, as it sounds a bit assuming). Plus, I often see some of the longest term providers who have a multiple portfolio of pics across their site.

But it is making me consider though. Why are some guys using only 8-10 pictures? Some even aren’t showing nudes. However, something about it gives me a idea that those types have “flake potential”. When I read up on clients being stood up, I am curious to know whether anybody has seen any correlation in the amount of pics one may have over the other.

Does fewer pic usually result in flake, or does more pics? Is there a sweet spot? I personally put out only 20-25 pictures at a time. Since I have the portfolio to share. But I’m now thinking of dropping that number a bit…wondering if I’m just doing “too much”.

It becomes a point where, am I actually needing to advertise this much, considering most clients only ever send 1 or 2 pics (if any) of themselves? Maybe the RentMen market is just becoming too much of an overload on potential clients 😞 That’s why I was amazed the Craigslist 1 picture in erotic section years ago, was the best thing  because I would get so many hits off just 1 picture.

Great question!  Speaking as a client, I am satisfied with 4-7 pictures, as long as at least one is a face picture, and one is fully nude from the neck down.

Having more pictures than that doesn't influence my hiring in a positive way.  In fact, it may do the opposite as more pictures provides more opportunity to unintentionally see the escort in poor lighting, etc., or may become a distraction as the escort looks the same in every picture, but the surounding city scape, car, mountains change and may steal the attention.

I think @Vegas_nw1982 makes some great points.  I also want to see facial expressions.   Are they smiling etc. to see if this person looks friendly or comes across as a bit grumpy.  I know that sounds a bit of a stretch but I won’t hire someone who does not smile in the pics or if they look like they have been on a three day drunk.

Sometimes guys with too many pictures end of having a couple that for whatever reason look a little different than the rest. Like maybe it's an older picture or something like that. That could sometimes be a little bit of a yellow flag, even though in many cases it's just weird lighting or something.

I prefer at least one face pic, although I understand why some providers might not want to post one, and I can live without it. Beyond that, 10 or 12 pics are adequate, as long as all the "important" details are covered, or rather, not covered, so I can see and assess the goods.

Three things I don't understand about the pics some providers provide:

  • Giving us the finger - what an absolutely infantile and off-putting gesture.
  • Saying he has a large endowment in an add with 73 pics, not one of which shows a d**k.
  • Including 73 pics in an add (or some similarly excessive number). I've never had occasion to reflect, I was really not sure about hiring this guy, then I saw Pic 72. Wow! That sealed the deal. At some point, that many pics just gets tiresome, especially if 28 of them are essentially the same pose.

Personally, I prefer an ad that has at least ten photographs: face, head -to- toe nude, front and back.

Having more than twenty photos is a complete turn off to me, for I abhor doing all of that scrolling.  I also prefer some rather explicit vids, if possible, as well.

My wonderful go-to-guy whom I've been seeing for over three years, minus the almost two year hiatus due to the flared-up time of Covid, has fewer than fifteen photos and only one video.  That's been fine for me.

Lastly, I've sent messages to a few providers whose ad has been limited to content as well as photos.  Two have responded back to me with positive thanks and have honored my suggestions/recommendations, for what they had initially was rather vapid and mighty limited.

You may be the hottest dude on the planet, but posing in front of your rumpled, unmade bed, with clothes scattered around with the closet door open displaying clutter on top of clutter is a bit of a turn-off. Likewise, dirty dishes in the kitchen sink … ah, you get the idea.  Don’t need studio photos, but come on, five minutes of tidying won’t kill ya.

Maybe it is better if they show how they really are... If they are messy/dirty better to know in advance… and don’t be surprised when you arrive to his place 😰

I actually think most ads on RM are done very well. I must have read thousands by now, I find it a form of entertainment. I also hire regularly.

I don't mind seeing dozens of pictures and a few vids. That said, sometimes I am surprised either positively or negatively by what shows up at the door. Other times the person is exactly as I imagined. That's life.

On the other spectrum of this, is the G***r app (I have to bleep out the name because I despise it that much, despite being on there and now only using it to network “potential” clients (because let’s face it, I feel that app has affected the market to a degree, and I’ve stopped using it to find decent men anymore because most on there just want a free escort).

But yeah, the ones who usually only have 1 or 2 pics and ESPECIALLY faceless pics (even if they send a face pic privately) are 99% flakes. So I would imagine it would be better to meet those who give an ample window of themselves.

At the same time, it sometimes starts to feel like it’s gone beyond trying to get clients, and more towards who has the best picture port. Like an x rated version of model mayhem (which I recently got banned from after years on the platform for uploading nudes).

Lol, that gave me a laugh.

I have to admit many of my pictures aren’t smiling. Why? Because photographers often make us NOT smile lol. It can tend to look cheesy and tacky. Don’t ask me why, but even if you look at certain model shoots, you will OFTEN (but not always) find someone Not smiling. Example:

I don’t smile in all of my pics because it can be hard to strike that balance of “sexy smirk/smile” without looking like a weirdo lol.

I suppose lots of pics that are redundant is too many pics.  But I love to view pics of  really fit guys.  I'm much less likely to hire if there are only a few pics that don't show much.  One thing I have noticed on hook-up sites is that guys often have an idea of their physique that just doesn't match reality.  Often a  guy describes himself as average when he actually has a great physique.  Other guys describe themselves as "muscular" and I just think "denial is a wonderful thing."

This isn't really a big deal for me. Four (4) or five (5) photographs can easily do it for me. I like a face shot although I understand why some escorts do not post one and the lack of it isn't a deal breaker for me. If an escort does post a face shot I wish to god he would SMILE. The only photograph I do REQUIRE is a nude torso shot - no nude torso shot no deal. A cock shot is desirable but not required. A nice ass shot is good. If an escort post one hundred (100) photographs fine I'll look at them but certainly don't need anywhere near that number. The text an escort posts in his ad is equally important to me as his photographs.

If an escort wants to get my attention, he will have a candid shot of him smiling, nothing fancy, that will usually do it for me. I fail to understand why a lot of guys will post pictures with a very stern/angry looking face. If you are trying to look like an aggressive top, it has the opposite effect on me, makes me think you want to rough me up. I do realize that some guys like that, but I think that might be a minority.

Well, no.

I used the downtime from the great sequestering to get into even better shape.

I saw it as opportunity.

I did the same.   Some of the photos on my IG profile from summer 2020 get more "likes" than any others. I did a professional photo shoot in September of 2020.  My avatar is from the photo shoot.
