It only seems like yesterday I received the e-mail from InnDulge cancelling my booking for this year's meeting. Last week, the Australian government extended the emergency ruling to keep our borders closed up to 17 March 2021. It could change before then, but I'm not confident. With no cases here, except for returning travellers in hotel quarantine, there isn't the urgency there is in the US and UK for rolling out the vaccines, and that is only likely to start in March (they aren't looking at emergency authorisations). I haven't bothered to renew my passport yet.

Hey Mike, how soon will Australia be lifting hotel quarantine restrictions for tourists that only want to visit there for a couple of weeks...?

There's no talk yet of when they will allow tourists in at all, much less without quarantine, from most countries. New Zealanders (or to be precise, people who have been in NZ for the previous 14 days) can come here now without quarantine, but they have to quarantine when they return home, so not many short term visitors. That may become a two-way bubble in the coming months. I somehow doubt that they will admit other visitors until they can do so without quarantine, possibly with some limited individual exceptions. NZ may ease its restrictions enabling people to do a NZ then Australia trip, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

An article in the Desert Sun looks at the likelihood of the Coachella Festival happening in April. The first weekend is the same dates as the proposed Palm Springs Weekend, so many of the considerations will apply:

In a nutshell, members of the forum and various escorts get together for a meet and greet, breakfast/lunch/dinners, and a pool party in Palm Springs. People go to be with like minded men to have some camaraderie and enjoy whatever may happen. I think it usually happens the same weekend of Coachella.

There is also a version of the gathering held in DC during the MAL convention/showcase on MLK weekend. Although, I don't the DC version attracts as many revelers.

While I've been to MAL and enjoyed it, I never made the connection to MAL and the Palm Springs event until now.

I realize that this is way early but since a question regarding places to stay has already been asked I decided to go ahead and post some gay hotel/resort options for guys who are considering attending The Palm Springs Weekend for the first time in 2021. If you are even just considering the possibility of attending I strongly recommend that you make reservation ASAP. Our weekend event takes place at the same time as the Coachella Music Festival thus rooms go quickly. You can always cancel a reservation if you decide at a later date not to attend. To the best of my knowledge all of the listed sites are clothing optional.

Warm Sands Area – The main advantage to resorts in this area is location, location, location. They are all very central to downtown Palm Springs’ restaurants, bars, and casino. It is also quite close to the restaurant where the Saturday Evening Dinner is held, the Sunday Pool Party at Oliver’s condo and the Sunday evening dinner.

All Worlds Resorts https://allworlds.com/

Desert Paradise Gay Men’s Resort https://desertparadise.com/

El Mirasol Villas https://www.elmirasol.com/

INNdulge https://inndulge.com

If I were staying in a resort it would be this one. Very popular with many of our attendees

The Hacienda at Warm Sands https://thehacienda.com

Probably the most beautiful of all the resorts but also the most expensive

Vista Grande https://vistagranderesort.com

San Lorenzo Road Area – These resorts are located in a very nice area BUT are rather distant from the Palm Springs City action.

Desert Sun Resort https://www.desertsunresort.com (This facility now appears to be coed)

Escape https://www.escapepalmsprings.com (I understand this resort is now closed)

La Dolce Vita Resort & Spa https://www.ladolcevitaresort.com

Santiago https://santiagoresort.com

Motel like but very popular with many gays. It is nearly as expensive at

The Hacienda.

Tortuga Del Sol https://tortugadelsol.com/

Triangle Inn Palm Springs http://www.triangle-inn.com/

On Palm Canyon Drive

The Canyon Club https://www.canyonclubhotel.com/

A bit “rustic” but very popular with many of our attendees.

Hope this helps and I look forward to seeing you all April, 10 & 11

Thanks for the list and break down. Last time I was in PS I got a house via AirBNB, but it would make more sense to be around everyone else.

I’ve actually only been one Forum Weekend. Since I was arriving on Friday, I didn’t necessarily want to have dinner alone so I made prior arrangements for a companion. We had a very nice dinner and a little treat for dessert! The rest of the weekend I travelled solo. But, that doesn’t mean that short commerce wasn’t made at the various events. However you decide to do it, you’ll have a great time.

I suspect many companions will come to PS without any prior commitments, so I suspect many will be happy to make arrangements even during the weekend.

If it proves to be safe for me to travel to Palm Springs for this event, I would also want to travel first class. After all, it's a first class event!

Assuming one would still wear a mask, would there be added protection from a first injection of vaccine? Enough to make the Weekend a safe visit? I guess that we wait and see. But, it's a thought.

'Safe' isn't a binary and like safer sex, it's not a matter of it being 'safe' or 'unsafe', but rather safer or less safe. I think it's safe to assume that there would be some protection from a first injection but that it would develop slowly so may not be measurable before the time the second jab is due. One or two jabs, protection will not be immediate and it won't be a silver bullet. I can't see either the advice on mask, distancing, hand washing and cough etiquette, or the willingness of many people to be less cautious about those measures changing for some time after the vaccinations are rolled out, if ever.

With the recent topsy-turvy surges of COVID and it resulting regulations in California what are the current regs for small resorts like the Hacienda, et al.?

At the moment, hotels are not allowed to accommodate anyone but essential workers. However, that will almost certainly have changed by April.

The inoculation program, here in California, seems to be in full swing. I’m having outpatient sinus surgery here on Wednesday (12/23). The entire surgery staff was inoculated yesterday (12/18).

My guess is that the hotels and the restaurants will be open by the Palm Springs Weekend. Governor Newsom is facing a rapidly accelerating recall drive primarily because of his French Laundry fiasco. Additionally, many of his forced closures have alienated droves of people as they appear to be arbitrary and capricious and are currently being challenged in court. My guess is that he will want to get out from under them ASAP.

I’ve postponed my April 2020 Palm Springs vacation four times now b/c of covid. It’s now set for May 15 and I’ll be there come hell or high water!!

Oh god. Did I miss something? Was the Weekend moved to May? I will have to try to switch weekends.

Also, are escorts considered essential workers. I think they are essential to some. :)
