If it's clear he's checked out part way into the session, I think I'd simply say things don't appear to be working out between us and say we can cut it short and offer half the fee.  There is a possiblity that could get confrontational, unfortunately, so it depends how he appears to be reacting how I'd proceed if he demanded the full amount.  Your ability to extract yourself from the situation safely is most important.

Don't providers automatically assume that? I assume that no matter what is being purchased most people check out the options.

    My usual procedure:

First, I make the Initial booking. Let's say it's Wednesday night and the appointment is for 9 p.m. Friday night two days later at my place. I tell the provider that I'll reconfirm around noon Friday and then again one hour ahead. I do that for two reasons. One: If he's been burned by no-shows, this might make him feel better about my legitimacy. Reconfirmation usually involves one text: ("Hey, I'm still on for 9 tonight at my place if you are. Looking forward to meeting up."). Two: I've been burned by no shows or very late providers. Checking in one hour ahead usually helps in finding out if he's got it in gear to be on time or not.

If I book same day: Let's say I book at noon Friday for 9 p.m. that night. I'll reconfirm around 5 to 6 p.m. and then again at 8 p.m.

If I book at say 4 p.m. Friday for 9 p.m. Friday, I'll just reconfirm the hour before. I'll just reconfirm one time if it's seven hours or less.

A simple reply to his initial communication of "Thank you for letting me know. However, I'm not hiring at the moment." would be sufficient and doesn't invite a response.

A response like you noted needs no reply. He offered his availability, and you won't be changing your mind, so no reply is needed or expected I think.

There were more providers listed as positive undetectable in the past but a lot of them now left the health status section blank.

Last night I made arrangements to see a provider I've met before just 7 blocks away. I'm at 16th and T NW and he was staying at 11th and U NW.
He asked: "How long will it take you to get here?"
"Whatever it takes me to get dressed and walk 7 blocks" I said to him. I got dressed in less than 2 minutes, walked out of my place and texted him: "I'm on my way at 11:02 PM.
I asked him at 11:04 PM: "What's your apartment number and the code for you to let me in?"
He replied at 11:05 PM: "Are you here?" I said "NO" and he asked "Are you on Uber?', I once again told him I was walking 7 blocks to get to him. "What's your ETA?".
I replied: "Are you high?". I had to cancelled, I can't handle this goldfish / microwave mindset they have when it comes to others. I might have overreacted but I had enough.

The younger generation's way of thinking is the result of parents from our generation telling them that they deserve everything good and nothing bad. That has translated into self-entitlement, self-centeredness, and attention seeking. It's not that cut and dry, but overall, culturally speaking, that's what we can normally expect from them. Additionally, some providers seem to think that because we're the clients and willing to pay them, that we are also willing to wait or put up with whatever nonsense they come up with.
Like others have mentioned, be clear about the scheduling and timing, and cancel if he's not willing to honor your schedule. Of course, within reason, meaning, sometimes there are legitimate reasons for being late.

If anyone wants me to read any more posts in this damn sequence of replies about deposits (they have their uses), the colour (correct spelling 😉) of cars and whether providers are competitive (we’re not) then I’m going to require a deposit. A large one.

I won't pay a deposit to a provider I've never met in person. If a deposit is requested, I'll just move on to another provider.
It's more than fair to ask for a deposit given the challenges a provider faces. Those providers, however, just aren't for me. Am I missing out on a great provider because of that decision? Yes. And I'm okay with that because I'll always be able to hire a provider without paying a thing in advance.

My point is, I don’t care about the employees’ circumstances when picking a business. I find the business that suits me.
When hiring an escort, I don’t care about his circumstances, his hotel bills, or gas expenses.  I hire him to provide a service, I pay him at the rate he sets and I never haggle. It’s not my responsibility to keep flakes from ruining his business.  My responsibility is to be a good client and not be a flake. But I will NEVER send a deposit.

Call me crazy, but I think it is by far more preferable for the escort to state his preferred method of contact in the body of the ad itself.  Thus removing any guesswork.
