A van slammed into people gathered for Berlin’s famed Pride festival on Saturday night, killing one person, injuring at least 16 others and prompting police to call off the celebrations and a concert in the German capital hours after they had begun.

Berlin police said they have identified a suspect who has not been arrested and he has ties to Islamic groups in the German capital.

“The suspect is known to police. He is known to us as a member of Islamic circles here in Berlin, and our search for this person is proceeding at full speed,” said police spokesman Florian Nath. He did not identify the suspect by name.

Nath added that “we still have no information whatsoever regarding his specific motives, the exact sequence of events, or his role in the crime itself.”

Earlier, police said some of the victims had life-threatening injuries. In a post on X, police called on everyone to leave the site of the event immediately as ambulances and firefighters attended to the victims.

This isn’t Terminator, artificial intelligence hasn’t taken over the world and isn’t killing humans.  A man drove that van trying to kill Pride participants, he has a name, and he is currently on the run.  Yet so-called journalists bury his name, his photo (surely one exists somewhere), and other information that could make it easier to find him.  If the suspect were a white German, I’m guessing the same so-called journalists would be far less reticent.

Perhaps that’s a debate for another day.  What is not debatable is that a driver slammed that van into Pride participants, the van sure as hell didn’t drive itself.

It’s reported this morning that the suspect driver was found. He ran at police brandishing a knife and was shot dead.

German government ministers have now said it was an Islamist terror attack.

Abdul Ballout had a history of violence and proven connections to Islamic extremism:  he spread ISIS propaganda and tried to travel to Syria to join ISIS.  

Despite being 21 when previously convicted of preparing a serious act of Islamic terrorist violence, German authorities tried him in juvenile court, which gave him a pattycake sentence consisting of a mandatory “reprogramming” course.  Even though he failed to attend most sessions, the German legal system took no further action.

Abdul Ballout murdered 1 person and injured 29, some in critical condition.  Those with life-threatening injuries have since stabilized, but who knows whether they end up paralyzed or permanently disabled.  They are certainly suffering and will face a long, painful rehabilitation.

Instead of imprisoning Abdul Ballout and stripping him of his German citizenship, the German legal system chose to coddle him.  The end result, to me, is about as surprising as the sun rising in the east.  But hey, all the passengers of the gay Scarlet Lady cruise were shocked — SHOCKED! — that they were turned away from ports in Muslim countries.  Go figure.

Most European justice system aren't prepared to handle cases like this, somehow, they keep saying it's a "mental health" issue, it's not!

This is not a failure of the German security and intelligence agencies. This is an indictment of the German immigration policy.
The only surprise are the mindless souls who think that Germany and other western nations can absorb hundreds of thousands of unvetted migrants from Muslim countries without incidents like this. And there will be more. Many more.
These so called "Islamists" hate western culture and do not share our Judeo-Christian heritage or democratic values. They refuse to assimilate. They have been inculcated, i.e. brainwashed, for generations into hating gays, Jews, etc.

Anyone who thinks they will suddenly adapt to our way-of-life overnight is naive at best, and foolish at worst.

It wasn't a knife. He was brandishing a machete. The same machete that he used to slaughter as many innocent Pride event-goers as he could.
And it was also reported that, rather than send him to jail for previous hate crimes, he was sent to a deradicalization camp to rehabilitate him so he could function in German society. How did that work out? That's a question to ask the family of the murder victim or the 29 innocent survivors recovering in the hospital.

It concludes:

I appreciate the culture and press that praises "Good Samaritans".  We need more of that, beginning at an early age.

He was born in Germany to immigrants. He couldn’t be stripped of his citizenship. And his mother arrived in Germany 2 or more years earlier, I forget which exact number. 
He was evidently radicalized growing up in Germany. I suppose the authorities will look into what influenced him or who. More will come out eventually and we should wait to see what is uncovered. The scary thing about these cases is that it is hard to predict who will act on their hatred by striking out at targets such as gay people or people of other ethnicities, the “other”.

Yes, I am aware that Abdul Ballout could not be stripped of his German citizenship.  The same would be true had he been a US citizen and committed the same crime on US soil, but I think the legal system needs to change.  This “kinder, gentler” approach to terrorists has failed miserably, and westerners are paying the price with their lives.
