This thread is a big hit on another board I'm on. No topic to this thread. If you got something on your mind and it's not a fit for any other thread or to start a new thread just share it here.

I'll start:

I went to the dentist today and need some work done that insurance won't cover looks like. Man, dental work is expensive!

How would this differ from the Lounge?

This thread is just if you had something on your mind and it's not worth starting a whole new thread on. Like I didn't wanna start a whole thread about how I went to the dentist today and there wasn't a thread already where my post would fit in. 🦷🪥

If this thread idea sucks, it'll die off quick. 😅

A friend of mine uses the local dental college for dental work.  Much cheaper.

Yeah, the college by me has discount services also:

UB Dental is a clinical facility for the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. Here, patients receive care by dental students under the close supervision of our...

The dentist I have now though is working with me to try and get my insurance to cover what I need done. I've also been a patient there for around 15 years. I'd feel a bit low to tell them I'm gonna go somewhere else to get the work done. Also from reading the info on the website I can't just go there it sounds like for my current need and then stop going. You have to be a full time patient. If my insurance denies me feel free someone to start a gofundme page! 😁

Hey it's worth a try, and so far it's working. Yes, it may die, but not because it sucks, but because people always move on. We've had 'Random' threads in the past, they've worked until they didn't.

Rita Rudner used to do a bit about her car having a rotating gas cap... whichever side of the pump she pulled up to, the cap was always on the other side.

I think of that every time I try to open a twist tie on a loaf of bread.  My hands don't work all that well and it takes me longer than you'd think because whichever way I start twisting, it doesn't open.  Then I reverse direction, and same thing.  When I eventually get it open, the tie immediately goes in the garbage and I just fold the top of the bag underneath it to close it off.

A number of years ago I went for a dental cleaning right before one of the holidays.  Much of the staff must have been off already because when the hygienist came in she said "Hi, I'm Dr. @@@'s mother."  He had called her out of retirement to fill in.

While she was looking over my chart she said "You've had a lot of work done."

I replied "Yes, I'm putting your grandchildren through college."

Dental insurance is crap. Never covers anything substantial. I've spent over $10K on my teeth over the last 15 years.

I agree. I’m thinking of canceling my Delta Dental and going self-pay. In the past, the endodontist happily let me pay over time, even though I could’ve paid on the spot. You can usually get a nice self-pay discount.

I've found that Dentists, and Doctors always bill the insurance company far more than what they charge ME if I'm paying out-of-pocket.

I'm self employed for many years now...so never pays for me to have an expensive health insurance policy with lots of coverage. They really dont end up paying for much when you need it. Cheaper to buy the cheapest insurance in case of being hospitalized and then pay the rest out of pocket.

Why can't I find Stouffers Tuna Noodle Casserole at the Giant store I've shopped at for over 30 Years? WTF?

I bought it yesterday at Albertson's (where it was on sale).

It covered a couple of my implants, which weren't cheap.

I have a chip in one of my lower front teeth that needs repair.  The last time I had a chip repaired, it set me back about $300.00.

Cancelled mine recently…basically useless.

Amen to that.  The only dental insurance worth having is if you can get it through an employer.  Individual coverage through Delta Dental is next to useless.   I get (sort of) dental coverage though Kaiser Medicare Advantage.  I wanted to see if the medicare dentist was even an option so I made an appointment for a cleaning.  It was nothing short of Dickensian - dumpy professional building in Daly City, waiting room filled with decrepit old people, the dentist did the cleaning and he was so rough and careless that I think the cleaning did my teeth more damage than going without it would have.   Then he handed me a quote for the work that he thought I needed done - absurd - he said I needed 8 fillings.  I haven't needed a filling in nearly 30 years, so knew he was scamming me.   I high-tailed it back to my pricey dentist in the Castro with his designer office.
