People thinking I was older had more to do with how I carried myself, spoke, my interests, etc. And people didn't think I was 10 years older. Instead, at 17-18, people often thought I was a college student, but it evened out in my late 20s. Then, because I'm fair-skinned, I've always avoided the sun, and I've had a killer moisturizer routine, so now people generally guess I'm in my late 30s to early 40s. I also stopped partying at 22 and drinking at 25, which, compared to family members at the same age, has made a big difference. 

I've been debating some minor filler because I've lost weight and some volume from my cheeks. I asked my (gay) dermatologist about Botox a couple of months ago. He said it was unnecessary since I don't have wrinkles.

I come from an Irish Catholic family so I had seen many people fall into the trap of addiction and wanted no part of it.

I moved to NYC in the 90s. Watched many young attractive people, in the club scene, get addicted to drugs. Lost a few friends to drugs. A few more essentially brain dead.

I don’t mind the comments that this thread has elicited. I think most gay men especially those that are single and still want an active sex life as they get older mind their appearance more than straight men.

I know I do and I am now going on 78. I am told I look younger than my years but inside I am feeling older because my body is telling me.

 

To celebrate my upcoming birthday I will do an overnight with my current favourite provider at my place and he’ll put me through my paces. 
 

I’ll probably take half a week to recover.

The one thing no one can predict unless they take their own life is when they are going to die. In the 20 plus years I have been a member of this forum I have witnessed many younger men expiring from various causes. You never know who might be next. That is the human condition and we can’t do a thing about it.

Sex is easy. Real connection — especially for gay men — is fucking hard. And that’s what I worry about as the sands of time keep falling.

We celebrate bodies, but we rarely sit still long enough to celebrate souls. We scroll, we swipe, we perform — but intimacy? Vulnerability? That’s where so many of us flinch.

I think, generally speaking, gay men have developed an aversion to intimacy. Maybe it’s the trauma we carry. The shame we were taught. Or the fear of being truly seen.

But as I get older, I’m realizing I don’t want more sex. I want more truth.

Even though you said I was ok, I'd still like to apologize for stating that you had to be lying about your age.  As a fellow fair skinned person, however, unless you are already aware of and taking actions against skin damage due to sun exposure, I'd suggest consulting with a dermatologist and following their advice.  The sun is particularly harsh for people with fair skin, and everyone I've known who avoided sunscreen and hats while outdoors looks decades older that they are by the time they hit their late forties.  I was stupid in my teens and early twenties, but I finally woke up and realized that even if I'm relaxing on a beach I need sunscreen and a hat AND still sit in the shade.
