Hiring day laborers?

In all seriousness, how low must one go, in soliciting others for sex.

I’m guessing the next thread will be about cruising the streets for mentally-ill homeless men, seeing how cheap their tricks can be….. 😒

Right on! I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned before.....

We should preposition those who openly advertise it's safer both ways.

All providers need the money. Let's not get into exploitation. Everyone who hires a day laborer, even to mow their lawn, is exploiting them according to that logic. So is anyone who hires a provider for sex. This whole idea that somehow "sex work" is more exploitive stems from sexual attitudes that belong to the Victorian Era.

Unfortunately, with Hispanic lay laborers, as that study indicated, gay sex work is still taboo (not that I'd pay them for anal sex; I'd pay them to beat the crap out of me; try calling that exploitation). But because of that machismo attitude, it's probably best to first see if any of them are on Grindr. That's a free way for them to "put themselves on the market," and allows a quick way to verify which workers are willing.

Absolutely not. Doing construction and maintenance work, based on your skills and interest in doing that work, and being coerced/solicited into sex work with a person that you don't like, and a person of a sexual orientation that is not yours, are quite far from being comparable.

Exploitation can and does happen with both types of labor, but that's where the similarities end.

Plus, a day laborer is getting cash in-hand, without taxes or the middle-man (employer), talking their cut…..everybody wins.  This is not exploitation

You go to your church and I'll go to mine.  Avoiding taxes and social security payments and perhaps undermining minimum wage laws hurts society.

I've successfully hired a Mexican taxi driver to fuck me after he drove me to my hotel in Puerto Vallarta.  I just said something like "Your ride was great, here's a tip.  I bet you could give me another great ride ride up in my hotel room..."

That successfully happened maybe once out of 100 taxi rides.  But you'll never know if you don't try.

Good on you, I would be too terrified to have the shit kicked out of me

I think this is somewhat risky, so it's not for me. I do find some of the judgment hypocritical. So long as sex work is illegal and we live in such an economically stratified society, exploitation may occur in any encounter. However, if we believe that sex work is work, then it's not distinguishable in terms of exploitation from other kinds of labor.

Personally, I'd rather have sex with one or two guys a day than spend 10 hours in the sun gardening.

Tell me about it. Some people on this forum act like everyone with money is some spoiled rich guy with a trust fund.

I come from a working class family and neighborhood. I won a great scholarship. Now I make good money. I worked very hard to get this far in life, and I'll be d@mned if I'll allow someone to shame me for how I use my hard earned income.

It's a very odd stance. I suspect many young people who go into sex work do it because it pays better than Starbucks. And there are certainly many people - usually poor, BIPOC folks, who are forced by circumstances into sex work - but we're not always in a position to discern who is who. You're not hurting them if you treat everyone with respect and pay them fairly.

But I also think hitting up a day laborer because you think he'll be cheaper than someone on RM is creepy and predatory. It's shitty late-stage capitalism that has so many people desperate.

I have a friend, gay gringo, who has a landscape business. Many years ago he hired a day laborer from a street corner to work in his business. Soon the worker's two cousins joined the team. As years went on the business prospered, my friend learned Spanish, his workers learned English, and they became friends as well as colleagues, spending Christmas dinner etc together. While they are paid under the table, they are paid the going wage and he pays 100% of their health care. Last year he bought them a truck and pays the insurance. The original worker went back home with enough money to build a house for him and his parents, and my friend went down to visit for a month. My friend's workers are the beneficiaries of his will. Gay boss, straight workers (they share tales of their personal sexual exploits but just tales...no sex ever considered on either part). Boss is happy. Workers are happy. Clients are happy. Desperately poor immigrants are becoming lower middle class little by little, they are learning new skills, they are doing work few native born Americans would do, they are lifting their families back home out of poverty, and it's not costing the taxpayers a dime.

The American dream!

Escorting is also a job many Americans wouldn't do, in most cases is well paid but in this situation it's nothing but a desire to give a BJ for a $20.  At least that's how I interprete this thread.

Another take on this question…

Apart from whether or not hiring day labors for sex is exploitation and apart from whether or not they’d be willing, the reality of approaching one of the day laborers near me for sex is less than appealing.

There’s a huge gap between a porn flick that succeeds in portraying a hot session between a day laborer and his admirer AND the reality of the day laborer’s environment.

I live two blocks from a Home Depot. For years, there’d been a small group (15-20?) of hopeful workers hanging out by the store’s parking lot entrance. All in all, a pretty low-key affair that was well known to all in the neighborhood without creating much antipathy.

Starting roughly a year and a half ago, the scene there exploded. And not in a good way. Now on any given day you might see a hundred men scattered up and down both sides of the block as well as all along one nearby street. The entire area now how the look of a skid row. Trash strewn about, plenty of empty liquor bottles, and men sometimes sleeping sprawled across the sidewalk. There’s nothing sexy about it.

I've heard similar complaints....from established escorts complaining about Venezuelan sex workers undercutting them and taking their business.

Interesting topic.  And I'm gratified to read that the consensus is that it's disrespectful and even predatory.

I live near a day laborer congregating point... and it's not a big box hardware store.  I drive by often - it was the route to my office pre-retirement.   I'll confess, the eye candy has caught my attention from time to time.  I never thought to solicit.  But I do recall thinking once that someone could visit the spot and recruit for a Day laborer beefcake calendar.

No, you’re not prevented from doing anything - legal or not legal, right or wrong.

i know you’re referencing a hypothetical, but while I avoid judging, if you waived cash in front of a poorer person, flaunting it and taunting or mocking them to have sex with you to make that cash theirs, I’d probably make an unfavorable judgement of both you and your behavior.

I know a few day laborers, and they’ve shared stories about being offered extra cash in exchange for sexual favors. Most of them find it amusing, brush it off, and decline.

There’s also this guy I‘ve known for a few years —he’s handsome and fit . On weekends,  goes to the Home Depot parking lot to look for work. I think he might be bisexual; he’s married with kids, but when he’s drunk, he becomes very affectionate with me. He hugs me, holds my hand, and asks me to kiss him on the cheek or neck. One day, he even unbuttoned his shirt and told me I could do anything I wanted, that there were no limits. I didn’t act on it because he was very drunk.

I’d consider doing something with him if he brought it up while sober—or at least when he wasn’t that drunk.

Smart. Legally, at least in my state, having sex with a drunk person can be considered sexual assault, since technically they can't give reasoned consent .

I'm curious if you guys think there are any other posters (don't name names) on this sight that make over $1Million each year?

Or was this merely a slip of the keyboard?

I suspect there are several members here that have a net worth in excess of $1,000,000 but I doubt many have an income of more than $1,000,000.

I can think of a couple of Forum members who routinely let us know how much money they spend on providers.  More power to them.  I’m envious.  In the meantime I’m content to be able to afford to lay on the beach, enjoy warm tropical breezes and cool waves from time to time.
