Safety in Brazil

There have been numerous posts attempting to discourage folks from visiting Brazil because of safety issues.

Some of these posts involve incidents that happened years ago.

First, I concede that nowhere is perfectly safe. Accidents and incidents can happen no matter where you travel.

But I am putting my 3 cents in on Brazil. It was my tenth, and longest visit. I spent two weeks there and had an absolute blast. I have never, ever, been so popular at the saunas. The weather was great, the people friendly, the food delicious.

And not once did I feel threatened by anything or anybody around me.

I just ask those considering a visit to think about this when deciding they want to visit somewhere fun.

May I ask you please to post a short report of your vacation. I’m particularly interested in what good hotels and restaurants in Rio you’d recommend as well as which saunas and men you found so welcoming

Rio and Sao Paolo

Based on my recent and prior experiences, Sao Paulo has been and continues to be relatively safe for tourism.  There is much to see and do in Sao Paulo.  

The sad part of Sao Paulo is that most of the garoto saunas have closed.  The populaton of Sao Paulo is more than eleven million people.  I remember when Sao Paulo had seven garoto saunas and most were busy at expected times. 

Of the seven Sao Paulo saunas, the former sauna (now demolished) Lagoa sauna was the largest and best sauna with a tremendous draw and a good reason for visiting Sao Paulo.  

Now, in Sao Paulo, there is only one garoto sauna, which is referred to as Lagoa.  

The three buildings that were joined together and housed the former Lagoa have been demolished and a tall condominium building has been built in its place. 

The replacement for the original Lagoa sauna (mentioned above) is a small four story building with no acoustics on the ceiling which makes it difficult to have a conversation while in the section where tables are and where food and drinks are served.  The quality of the garotos has markedly declined.   The new Lagoa sauna is in a good (mostly residential) neigborhood without much crime.  

Rio, on the other hand, is visitable but it depends on where and when you travel around the city to avoid muggings or worse.  Three of my friends were mugged in Rio during the past year, each on a different occasion.  The parts of Rio I formerly visited have become too dangerous for me to visit if one is an obvious tourist.  

Even though Rio is still fun, it, like Sao Paulo and most cities in Brazil, has lost a lot of their garoto saunas.  Rio is down to just two garoto saunas (Clube 117 and Clube 202), not including the sauna downtown which is not often used by tourists. 

I plan an October trip to Brazil and look forward to my upcoming trip.

I'll be going back to Brazil end of this year for 2 weeks (going to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo). I have time to go to another city and was thinking of maybe going to Salvador or Florianopolis for a few days. Other than Rio and Sao Paulo, are there other cities in Brazil that have garoto saunas?

Heading there in the coming weeks, been browsing through Garoto Com Local. Obviously some unreal specimen but I worry about safety, discretion, and language barrier. I'm staying in a nice area/hotel, but will prefer to travel to close by places. If anyone has any recs for bars, nightlife, or anything *gay* please do share!

Salvador is cock-a-block, full of incredibly sexy, dark skinned men who are available "rough trade".

I used a tour guide who helped me safely make arrangements with a few (who wouldn't stab me after ...or during sex). Some very hot men. I’ve finally booked Rio! I'll be there the week of the 10th and leaving on the 25th, or right before Thanksgiving. This time, I’m skipping São Paulo to focus on Rio. I really need some sun and warmth after these last four months of hibernation.

From what I’ve seen in recent posts, it looks like Rio hasn’t changed much. I'll probably be posting updates in the other forum that seems more Brazil-focused. I’ll share a link here to my travel adventure thread in that forum. in my threads, it won't be any of the old-times-used-to-be-better for there is not much I can do about it. And I don't want to cause any fear. I am usually very careful, I had my own Brazilian phone line ] and my own cell phone,  I will Uber everywhere, besides going to the beach, I will be jumping from one GP to another

I also checked Garoto.com, though I usually prefer meeting in person. Some of the posts were funny, though not all the guys were my type. One post, in particular, had me wondering—does anyone know what he meant to say?

On my last trip to Brazil I didn’t go to any of the saunas. I hired exclusively off garotoscomlocal. I hired quite a few guys and was satisfied with all of them except one who was more of a bottom than the top that he advertised (i’m exclusively a bottom). I tended to only hire the guys that had active twitter accounts to see if they really looked like their ads. Yes it’s more expensive than a guy at the sauna but it’s private and you have the luxury of fucking in your own room or airbnb. None of the guys I hired spoke English but it didn’t matter because all we did was fuck. I didn’t give a shit if I understood them or not. When I set up the meet I used google translate. What is recommend for other readers that go through this route if hiring, try to get a Brazilian sim card or esim and make sure that your whatsapp is tied to this brazilian number. This will make the scort thing that you’re a local in the initial discussion so he will charge you less. The minute the scort finds out you’re an American he will try to quote you higher prices. I was paying around 300 to 400 reaiis per hour for an outcall .

I had limited time and wasn't feeling going to a sauna so I did the same. Same experience, with my US number. There's so many of them that nobody seems to shoot high with rates, because the minute you withdraw interest they panic. Kind of crazy. Makes me way more apprehensive about hiring in the US, I'd rather go for a weekend and fuck my brains out lol

Lol there seems to be a lot more supply then demand over there because I was able to negotiate even lower rates than the standard 300-400 reaii with like more than half of the guys I hired.
