location apps on cruise boat

I'm going on my first cruise.  It's a "family" cruise so I don't expect a bunch of single guys roaming around however I was wondering if apps like Grindr and Scruff work on cruise ships?    I figured maybe there's one or two guys who will be on the boat looking for some fun.

You might need to get the internet package for the apps to work while at sea.  I'm on a cruise at the end of the month and I'll know for sure then. 

And, if you haven't been on a cruise before, most cruises have a 'Friends of Dorothy" meetup and since this is 2024 most just call it an LGBTQ social hour.

yea I got the 2nd tier internet package.     I did see a LGBTQ meet up but I prefer to be a bit more discreet since I have my family roaming the boat.   It's bad enough being in the same row of rooms with them.   I have my own stateroom but it's between my sisters and brothers rooms (with their kids).    blah.    So I'm a bit hesitant of even bringing a guy back to my room if I met anyone.    But you never know.

I presume someone in your family asked for adjoining rooms...most hotels, at least, know not to do that unless asked, for the very reason you have. One would think cruise lines would also know. One of the first business trips I was on, the hotel put a number of coworkers in the same row of rooms. It happened that there was a hairdressers conference in the hotel that week. and my room became orgy central. The next day I could hardly look at my office mates. A "sister" later told me, when that happens, when you get to the room call the front desk and tell them the toilet doesn't work, and you need a room change. It works.

1.  Ship vs Boat.  The ship 🚢 will be the vessel which contains your cabin.  The boat 🚣‍♂️ is only to be used in emergencies to evacuate the ship, or to be used to tender to shore from the ship.  Have fun searching for guys to play with on the ship, but don't try to pay with anyone on the boat: it's much to small and there will be no privacy 😊

2.  Applications.  I've never used ship Internet.  My telephone stays in airplane mode while I'm at sea.  I found that I can turn on my hookup applications when in a U.S. or Mexican port, and that's adequate to communicate with the gay officers and entertainers on board and to let them know my cabin number.  As for meeting other guests, just go to popular bars before the late dinner seating.  The gays will be the men actually dressing appropriately for dinner.  Everyone will be horny at sea... So once you've established a connection with someone, just mention you have your own room and can host if he can get away for a few minutes.

3.  Gay cruises.  Book a gay cruise for yourself in the future.  Those are way easier to meet people.  Whenever you take the elevator, just ask anyone else in the elevator you fancy if they'd like to see the view from your cabin.  It's always worked for me. 😊

It never occurred to me if the rooms have connecting doors.   Great, my young nephews will just come and go out of my room as they please.  lol.    Well a hotel I could get away with switching room.  Not on a cruise.

I do not think I will ever take a cruise, the idea triggers all my phobic instincts. But I am curious when people share they had sex with the ship staff. I would have expected it to be forbidden by the company, and all the rooms decks are probably under video surveillance. 

Where am I wrong? Is sex between staff and passengers forbidden? Or is it easy for an employee to sneak unnoticed inside a room?

The kitchen staff, bar staff, cabin stewards, maintenance workers, etc. are prohibited from remaining in guest areas when not working.  They are relegated to the staff decks near the bottom of the ship.

The ships officers, entertainers, guest relations staff (basically anyone whose primary language is English and therefore is paid more and has more perks on the job) may mingle with the guests during their off-hours at bars, the gym, the buffet, shows, and the pool (although usually restricted to days in port for pool use, when it is least crowded with passengers).  Usually they may only eat in dining rooms when asked by a passenger to be their guest.  I found this out by talking with a singer I met daily in the sauna after using the gym.  He became my guest for dinner every night, as he was happy to be invited into the main dining room.  We fooled around in the sauna, the gym showers, and in my stateroom.

I know a singer / dancer who works on cruise ships. He says it’s a fabulous job for meeting people and enjoying the view from their cabin or stateroom as seems to be the name of one’s room. He says it’s very easy to spot the gay guys and those who aren’t gay but who will of course like to show off their view…even if their porthole is a bit small and difficult to open.

I’ve never been cruising (not on a ship anyway) but it sounds like good fun if you’re not being chaperoned by family.

The "come see the view from my room" works every time, even when I book an interior cabin with no windows.  We always find SOMETHING to open 😜

Wow!  I’ve never been on a ship without family, but the way I sometimes fantasized about the dancers/singers… if I had known it wasn’t strictly prohibited for them to mingle with guests, I could have potentially gotten into all sorts of trouble 👿

They work, but they don't work well on the actual ship.

It's because when connected to the ship's wifi, you're using a sat connection which messes with a phone's ability to precisely figure out where you are.

I'd wait until you hit a port and then open Grindr.  Works much more efficiently.

I live near (2) cruise ship terminals in SoCal. I often open up Grindr and find user names like “Navigator crew” or “Mexico Cruise this week” etc., all from local docked cruise ships. It’s always fun but usually useless as they are on the ship already, and not available. One exception…a regular crew member who enjoyed a visit to me on occasion when he was in port 😉

Someday I may travel in a short cruise, just to suffering for a few days and confirming how much I hate the experience. And I would do it only out of hope to hook up with a hot "sailor".

The problem with cruising is that you can't immediately figure out if you're going to hate it.

I'm not a fan of the mega-ships...  And that's where I started.  The ships are chaos.  Your fellow pax leave a lot to be desired.  It's just not my thing.

I settled into really enjoying smaller ships (900 pax and below).  Better service.  Better food.  More interesting ports.  

You may find you enjoy cruising when it's the right ship/line.

I agree. Originally, I liked the mega ships. Lots more to do and see on the boat, but the ports of call are boring as fuck. In general, I would just stay on the boat even when we were in port. But once you’re done exploring the ship, it gets old fast.

Smaller ships are certainly nicer, but there’s a lot less to do. The trade off is the ports are actually mildly interesting.

The truth is, since Covid proved that cruise ships are basically floating cesspools, I’ve avoided cruising altogether. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever go back. Still, my final "voyage" will be an Around the World Cruise on Cunard, ending with a suicidal swan dive into NYC harbor. If my heirs try to accuse my cabin mate @BenjaminNicholas of assisting in my death, I expect you all to rally to his defense, morally and financially.
