From reading the article it seems having sex in saunas may be implicated...

Never been to a gay sauna & I have no desire to go to one but I always thought having sex in hot spaces is unhealthy.

When people have sex at the gay sauna, that doesn’t always literally mean that they are having sex IN a sauna.

In Europe, they call all bathhouses “Saunas”,  and most of them do have saunas in them. But just like with bathhouses in the US, most of the sex occurs in rooms, play areas and not in actual saunas.

Fungus loves to spread in warm moist environments.

True, but to encounter a warm, moist area doesn’t require being in a sauna.

most can encounter that the moment a man pulls down his briefs after one of these long hot summer days…

stay safe!!!

@Luv2play did you really need 7 different posts to say what you had to say?

Well some years ago you said my individual posts were too long. Especially my paragraphs were too long. I’ve tried to make each post more digestible since then. Sometimes shorter paragraphs and sometimes shorter posts. Sorry if you find my composition still lacking. :)

First time I got fucked in a sauna was in Munich in the 1970s

Thanks for this post.  Been feeling my age lately (mostly from weird health issues cropping up)...but I was still living at home before college in the 70's....HA!

TMVII was reported as worthy of surveillance for MSM because its very rare incidence in France in 2022 and USA in 2024 was associated with that subgroup, in the context of reduced condom use, and was assumed to be transmitted skin-to-skin as opposed to fomite (non-organic surfaces). It was flagged because it was resistant to standard anti fungal treatment in some cases. In the event its occurrence were to have spread meaningfully it would have been important to treat aggressively based on visual presentation even if lab confirmation had been pending or inaccessible, as well as public service alerts due to the impact of awareness in mitigating incidence.

Other similar fungal genotypes are actually more prevalent and can be difficult to treat but lack the distinction of incidence blips within sexually circumscribed subgroups such as actively sexual gay men. While an epidemiological anomaly, TMVII did not take off epidemiologically.

not only a hot place but the "foot traffic" literally. Is not unusual for folks who go there to catch skin infections.

Ringworm is spread by contact skin to skin.  You see it frequently in sexually transmitted situations of all kinds  Wrestlers frequently need to be checked to prevent it becoming spread during matches.  Young children who roughhouse also will transmit it one to another.   Usually ringworm can be treated with topical medication.  This particular strain of trichophyton in this patient required prolonged oral medication with a trial of three different medications.  The issue here is the resistance, not the manner of transmission,.
