When does embellishment become fraud with providers?

I am reading stories about a new elected  politician in USA who claims he meerly embellished his achievements, others are saying he's deceived his constituents through fraud. This thread is not him or  politics, it just sets an example of what some providers have done when I look at their profiles. Lopping off 10 years from your age, 15 year old pics, list languages you don't speak.. the list goes on.

So I open this topic up to The Deli, when do embellishments end, and fraud starts.

When I first read the headline...I thought "well who doesn't embellish their resumé ? Then I read the article and realized this was quite a bit more than that !! ...Just like the line in the sand you are looking for...it's something we always navigate with masseur/escort ads.

Everyone wants to make the best impression but the frequent use of photo filters makes the advertising all the more deceptive. Claims of "highly educated" + "speaks six languages" and age shaving by ten years ( or more ) are becoming all the more common as everyone competes with someone else's exaggerations.

It's all too common unfortunately. I don't care about which languages they speak either, but I always wonder why some guys lie about that since its such an easy one to check.  You can easily lie about your age, but lying about a language is a lot more difficult to pull off.  I met a guy a couple of weeks ago who was supposedly fluent in German.  We met, I switched to German at some point and turns out he doesn't speak a word.  He realized he had been caught and made for an overall uneasiness to the conversation after that.

This is why we belong to these forums. Our only real defense is reporting dishonesty and warning each other. Once our review forum is open, we can build a data base by taking the time to always write a review!...one that is more detailed and useful than the worthless ones on RM. I feel bad for the providers who have no way to warn each other when WE misbehave!

When I was using the internet for dating, I assumed that everyone was shaving off 4 years from their true age. And for my pics, like those of everyone else, I chose the most flattering ones of me.

I can believe that the “embellishment” of reality is much worse nowadays. Requesting recent accurate photos seems a reasonable safeguard against misrepresentation.

FWIW only once in my internet dating days did I have to say “You look nothing like your pics” - the pics were of a young fit-bodied guy in his 20s; a chubby, balding guy in his 40s turned up - and so, as @guru68 suggests, I walked away

In terms of physical appearance, if the photos are basically accurate I'm okay.  I assume anyone seriously interested in hiring an escort is going to look at all of his photos, and if some are him at a younger age and some are more recent it's really on the client to pay attention and not just latch onto the older photos.

As far as age shaving, I understand a lot of still-youngish guys do it so searches that use an age filter don't exclude them from consideration.  So, for example, a guy who is 44 might say he's 39 so his ad will still be seen by people looking for someone under 40.  I say that if the guy looks like he could still be in his thirties, that's a "white lie" that can be overlooked.  What's fraudulent is someone who is clearly well beyond his thirties still using 39 as an age.  I don't care how well preserved someone is, a man who is in his late fifties is never going to be confused for a man in his thirties.

In terms of providing what was advertised, while I understand the YMMV situation when it comes to erotic masseurs (i.e., some guys whom the masseur is more turned on by will get more than other clients) with an escort I think it's reasonable to expect someone to perform in a manner consistent with his ad.  So if he says he's a top and that's what you indicated you wanted when you hire him, he should come prepared to top.  The only caveat I have is that I'm sure there are occasional circumstances where the escort simply cannot perform as advertised, like if the client is so obese that he cannot be penetrated or if the guy is so dirty that the escort simply cannot follow through on what was planned.

I’m not too concerned about actual age either as long as what others have said, they look reasonably like that age.
I’ve seen some really hard-looking 45 year olds where you say “damn!” and some 55 year olds where you say “really?! He’s 55?! No way!”
As long as they look like what I’m looking for, it doesn’t matter to me.
However, there’s one guy who advertises by me who has been 39 for at LEAST the last 15 years. I won’t even look at that profile because that’s ridiculous.
