Isn't 400 dollars for a hour too much for New York standards?

gosh this thread is getting tiresome. It has gone on so long that at 7% curent inflation the amoutn we are talking about being supposedly outreageous would now be $425... We should have locked in a $400 rate on some sort of a lease arrangment so it didn't go up

And as for the tax discussion... shouldn't we be paying health insurance? And are we matching on any 401(k) contributions?

A lot of moving parts here.

While it would be advantageous for escorts to report all of their income on Schedule C you may rest assured the VAST majority of escorts report little to none of their cash income on their tax returns.  You are one of a very few who does.

If I spend $600 with an escort and ask for his SSN and address so I can provide him with a 1099-MISC, how many escorts would fork over that information?  Precious few.  Let’s not kid ourselves here guys.  This is for the most part a cash and carry profession.  Precious little is reported as taxable income.

I spent 45-50 last year on this hobby primarily on 2 regulars and have never been asked to issue any 1099s... lol

Finally someone that can chime in, if you can't spend in the thousands per year and not have it matter...you should be watching porn. And for those of you that don't get it, Cany is talking about forty to fifty thousand dollars.  I don't add mine up but it's more than twenty for sure. This is not a poor man's sport. It wasn't cheap in Oscar Wilde's day and it isn't now. Stop complaining about $400.  OK guys, jump on.. I have officially asked for it

That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. Why gang up on you if you disagree?

Escort futures contracts traded on the CME.

Thankfully this is not the typical London rate, but I thought I would share . And as a point of reference most people in the UK don’t earn as much as Americans do ( there are exceptions of course ) . Cost of living is comparable to New York easily .

He came recommended though .

£350 is about 460 dollars on a good day

Decades ago, when I first discovered The Gaiety in NYC, I recall the “old timers” complaining that it was outrageous that the dancers wanted $100-$150 for a “private” time when they use to pay $25😱.  These periodic discussions on this site remind me of those years.😀

Some people just live in the past.😥.  Sorry, time to move on and accept the reality of the present.👍

I understand your point, but I do not think it is the root cause of this recurrent issue. I think too many clients are self centered whining bitches and feel a deep despise for sex work and sex workers. That is the root issue, IMHO.

The two things are not mutually exclusive.

$400 might be worth it, but its the 'send an uber' crap that annoys me. If you need to build in cost of transportation to your rate, just do that. Don't nickle and dime me. You're becoming a bad airline.

It’s not necessarily nickel and diming. I’ve been told by many the reason they request the Uber, is because some of us guys like to play games and request them in the middle of the night when no one’s there. So I think they more so do it for safety purposes and added confirmation that we are serious about the appointment.

I usually will send a deposit if they travel to me and they can figure out how they want to get to me. Some drive, some take Uber, some take the train.

Insensitive remark.

Were guys charging $300/hr in 2002? That was the pre-COVID rate for some. In 2002, I wasn’t even sure I knew what masturbation was, so I definitely wasn’t up on the rack rate for escorts. But something tells me it wasn’t $300/hr.

I heard guys were charging $300 even before 2000. They said the reason the rate stuck for so long was because years ago there only used to be only 20 providers in NYC. And now there are 200, so the market is saturated with more options. Something along those lines.

I'll end on this note. It's a piece of wisdom my former manager imparted on me some years ago.

i was a young impressionable 23 year old who had just moved to New York at the time.  [ Looking back I wish I had more sex too - I was far too proper and conservative] .

I was living in a partially subsidized apartment in Manhattan with roommates. At the time, my starting salary was VERY LOW - and nearly panicked when I walked into a supermarket [ The Food Emporium?] to look at the price of milk and orange juice.  How is this going to work?

I was working in  a job that was part salary + part bonus + part commission - and i was concerned about how I was going to live ( I frankly I thought the salary component was unrealistic). I voiced these concerns to my manager who I was close friends with.

I thought maybe I need to cut back and trim expenses.

His answer

"You shouldn't be worried that milk costs X and orange juice costs Y etc.  Cutting back is not the solution"

You see the solution, Jetlow…….is to just make more money. That will solve all of your problems.   Its the New York solution to all problems really -  just go make more money.

So for those cringing at NY rates either

1) Make more money

2) Hire elsewhere

3) Pass

Perfectly said 👏
