being a relative newbie on the forum...it almost seems like such a daunting task to go through the archived threads to get a sense of how the forum started and how it evolved...more selfishly, I just wanna know all the juicy tea and (past forum) scandals that transpired since it started. has someone kept track / documented such thing? this is all for the sake of research (and to satisfy my messy curiosity)

I do not think we have any archivist documenting scandals here. Do we? Naw.

But we have memories. I remember the big JD Daniels soap opera. Back then, Daddy would issue an Escort of the Year Award. Supposedly, everything was based in forum members votes. JD Daniels wins. Soon after his win, some votes were questioned. Allegedly, he bought them in exchange of a full sex session. The award was withdrew. However, he never accepted it.The guy even went rogue and started to make threats and exported his beef to Boytoy.

That one was the biggest scandal I remember. Then, a smaller one was a big one for me. I went to Palm Springs, and unintentionally published pictures where forum members were visible to illustrate the reports in my blog. I offended and violated a few members privacy, and spent weeks apologizing.

I can remember one more scandal, but bringing it to the table would drag this thread to the Politics forum. Decent people do not want to go to that place.

The Cliffs Notes of this forum would still fill a library.

If one goes in search of drama, odds are it can be found. If one would rather get some Hiring 101 tips, it’s a treasure trove.

For those who need a chuckle, omg yes. That’s here too. You can enjoy various hilarious points of view about transactions, attractions, infractions and factions.

It’s been here long enough to have said goodbye to some, to welcome noobs, and provide a little place where providers can offer some sage advice, while not spilling tea that endangers their professional discretion.

If there are members whose posts are of interest to you, search the handle to see wherever they may have weighed in on various topics.
Or search by topic - several are broken into many threads with different bits of insight as the topic pops back into the view of 2021.

Before a thread begins, the OP will (or should have) first done a brief search to see if a prior thread exists, and whether its posts shed light still relevant now. If so, a bump can bring it to the top where one can ask or opine about the issue. Beware, some topics bear the scars of a beaten horse… but it’s still almost always entertaining. Right now we’re still in process of societal re-engagement, with different circumstances by location. In general, though, right now it’s safer to cruise this forum than it is to cruise anywhere else!

Yes, the thread was unlocked.  The moderators discuss actions taken behind the scenes and occasionally come out with a different outcome.  Think of it like football where a play is occasionally overturned after looking at the replay.  :)

While there might be folks who comment on things that stood out most to them... at the end of the day, the best way to learn about the site history is to scroll back and read.  Most of the biggest issues can be found within the first 3-4 pages if you are sorting by most views or by most replies.

If you want to view multiple forums at once, check out the Fluid view.  Then take it and apply a sort by Most Views...  you'll see the individual threads across multiple forums that have had the most views.  When I did that, I found several interesting discussions from the past including the one discussed above.

I really don't have the time to go back and search threads for past controversies. I remember times of incredible flaming wars amongst certain members. I forget the issues.

I wish I had been aware of the JD Daniels one. Had I known, I would not have hired him 2 years ago. But that's another story.

Two thoughts… number one… that’s part of why this thread was reopened along with it not directly violating a rule.

Number two… if it’s not worth looking at history, it may not be worth really looking into in the first place.  Sometimes it’s better to just not know in the first place and live your life without ever knowing every bad thing that ever happened. As someone who went from just being a spectator to being “in the mix” here on the site, there are days I think I would have been better off never having known. (Anyone have a “Men In Black” flashy thingy?)

Even though the thread was left open, I don’t personally think it’s a great idea to relive our most painful moments.

Agreed. Unless there's is a lesson to be learned from them worth passing on.

since we've been warned not to bring up controversies in this thread, I've already PM'd FOS about his question with search results for the dude's full name......sorry, I don't want to PM anybody else about this......there are juicier controversies!.......

Whatever one thinks of this thread, we should all appreciate the moderators’ openness to meta-discussion.

I have 21 tabs of threads opened but am distracted reading thru the GleeMania thread. #stan

this research might take longer than expected.

Since you have  already done some research, why would you think this thread was a good idea?

I do not know his motivation, and I empathize with @RadioRob calls for moderation and moving on. However, the potential value of this thread to me is a measurement of precisely how much we have grown and moved on from some issues. Being able to look back without rencor and with sense of humor or not being able, would speak of how much or how little we have overcome those old issues.

Take it like a self-assessment.

That was the spirit of my second post in this thread. Hopefully, we all can look back and laugh at ourselves instead of being triggered again.

I am glad that we are not prohibited from discussing the forum's history. It's hardly all "painful moments."

My experience with the forum:

An escort I hired in 2000 told me about Hooboy's site and asked me to submit a review, which I did.  I appreciated being able to read reviews as well as discussions about providers.  Over the years I have participated in a few other forums as well, and like most forums I simply ignore the vast majority of what gets posted here -- not because I think the subjects are invalid but simply because they aren't pertinent to me.  For example, I'm unlikely to read a thread discussing someone who doesn't work in my area unless that person is also known from porn and I'm curious what others have to say about him.

I've seen some people come and go.  Sometimes it's clear why some people leave, but sometimes I find myself wondering whatever happened to certain people.  Then again, I think I took a multi-year break from this site several years ago; I don't even think my current forum name is the one I used when I first signed up.  I've appreciated the intelligence and/or sense of humor of some forum members and found some others irritating beyond belief.  Thankfully there is an ignore list, though I confess I sometimes unhide posts from people I've ignored simply to gaze at their current drama.

Though we could flip this in a positive direction and ask things like:

  1. What were some of the best/funniest/most memorable discussions you ever had on this site?
  2. What is a great memory/activity from this forum that you'd like to relive/bring back? (Example: maybe there was a past competition for inventing the best porn names that got wild and funny and creatively competitive?)
  3. How has this site helped you the most over time: friends, hot photos in Gallery, sex advice in general, escort advice saved me from bad encounter or led to best encounter ever?

I know that not everyone viewed him as favorably as me, but I really enjoyed Rick "The Smart Ass" Munroe's posts.

This site has been most helpful in saving me money/time/aggravation by sharing information that certain providers were not worth contacting.  To clarify, it isn't that I would automatically write someone off just because one poster writes he was disappointed, but if the general consensus is that someone doesn't deliver on what he promises then I definitely don't feel the need to find out for myself whether that's true.

What has struck me most about this site is the diversity of beliefs and opinions among posting members....especially postings in the political forum.  If you want to find drama in this forum become a daily reader of the political forum.   JUST REMEMBER TO LEAVE THE DRAMA IN THE POLITICAL FORUM.

As a group of predominantly gay men here in the Forum there are a surprising number of ultra conservatives and ultra progressives.  Every profession imaginable is represented.  Every age group and body type is represented.  I think that’s what makes this venue so wonderful

AND JUST REMEMBER.....WHAT I SAID ABOVE.

I don't care about the controversies.   What I liked about the OP, and opened it hoping to see, was the history of how this forum came about.   The man who recently passed and his contribution to making this site available for differing opinions and frank discussion.   Would still like to read that!  That would definitely be a positive turn I think many of us could get into.

The "man who recently passed" took over this website after another man passed away a number of years ago who went by the moniker Hooboy.  Hopefully this link will work, but if not simply do a Google search for Hooboy male escort review and there will be a link to a post in the archive here that has a brief history of the site.
