LOL!  I always found it interesting (or maybe myopic??) that so much discussion of anything and everything Canadian -- especially Montreal -- is in the Male Strip Clubs forum.  I mean, there is more to Canada than strip clubs (I think 🤔)

Well, the forum awaits your list! 🙂

And there are other places to discuss it.  The name of this forum is male strip clubs.  I don’t know why you find the discussion of montreal strip clubs in a strip club forum so ‘myopic’

I started this thread on 6/15/20, just after I had to cancel plans for a visit at the end of that month.  Back then I would never have predicted it would be 14 months before I could return.

I have my plane reservations, my apartment, and my vaccination certificate all ready.  Still have to nail down the requirements for a covid-test and the "just-in-case" quarantine plan.  You can bet I've been walking around with a big smile on my face for the past 24 hours 😁.

Please share what you learn in terms of requirements. And I would be interested in how you secured an apartment.  Feel free to msg me

On a somewhat related topic, Is the Hotel Place Dupuis (formerly Gouvernor) permanently closed? If so, what are the next best alternatives in that area? Thanks!

If you are planning a visit to Canada in August, pay attention to how this story develops.  Over 8,000 Canadian border officials are threatening to strike in early August due to not having a contract in place since 2018.  The strike vote is currently underway and the results should be known soon.  If a strike proceeds it could cause major slowdowns at both land and air border crossing stations.

It appears that the Hotel Place Dupuis is turning into a Hyatt Place. Their website says they are accepting reservations beginning October 27.

This is wonderful news. I stayed at the former Le Gouverneur many times and even had a loyalty card that would have entitled me to a free overnight when they suddenly closed. Lol

Then it became Hotel Dupuis for a short time until the pandemic closed it again. I hadn’t hear that it was used for the homeless during this period, but frankly, even during the last days as Le Gouverneur, it was showing it’s age.

The Hyatt has obviously renovated the place and it has good bones. The views are spectacular from the upper floors looking on the west side. You see the entire downtown and Mount Royal laid at your feet with no obstructions from nearby buildings, which are all much shorter. That side also fronts on a park.

The location can’t be beat as it is not only close to the Gay Village but also the old port, where there are some good restaurants, and a ten minute taxi ride to downtown where there is a great nightlife vibe, if the Village doesn’t inspire.

I will be booking my first stay there in the fall when it opens.

News story

I guess you can still fly to Montreal just not drive there.

I can drive there since I live in Ontario. In fact I've already booked a room and escort for the occasion of the opening weekend.

I'll let you know how the new hotel looks in reality. The pictures are pretty but they're still doing the work so I imagine it's a mess at this time.

I'll be the first to mess it up again with my guy. LOL

well, shoot....I'm going to miss the old Gouverneur (sp) if I ever get back to Montreal.....I had a successful stay there in January, 2016, and enjoyed the utterly unbeatable location, the retro 1980s vibe 😉, the clean (if spartan) rooms, and the homeless sleeping on the heat grate right outside the front door (that stuff doesn't freak me out).......walkable to everything in all directions and a whole mall, including a nice grocery store, just out the "back door" of the hotel!....I wonder if the Hyatt will keep that secret door open??....and I wonder if that dude who tried to sell me some cocaine on St. C. is still on duty.....love the local color!

I see the Hyatt is being careful in describing the immediate neighborhood:

Discover the playground that is Montréal by staying in the middle of it all. We’re located near the renowned Village, one of Montreal’s most diverse and colourful neighbourhoods.

Yeah they refer to "Village" but from a previous post on here I understand the city now refers to it that way. Anyway the location is great and I am ready to move on to the Hyatt experience. The last year or so the HVAC system sucked and was difficult to get an acceptable room temperature. Other than that everything else was fine, especially the large bathrooms and showers. In the junior suites you got a walk-in shower and a jacuzzi big enough for two or three, which was put to good use.😈

Border opens to fully vaxxed Americans August 9th!

Again you don't know what you post. The land border for both Canada and Mexico  is CLOSED to fully vaccinated non-essential Americans until August 21. Only flying is permitted.

Wise up!!

again, you don't know what you post. This only means the land border is closed to Canadians. Americans will be able to drive to Canada starting August 9th.

This is incorrect boss.

"Wednesday’s announcement from the U.S. means Michiganders won’t be able to make quick visits to Canada and back, at least for now as COVID cases have been rising across the nation."
