I bet some, possibly even most, of these cases were people who overstayed on their previous visit to the US.  In fact, two people immediately come to mind where this was the case.
If you come from a visa waiver country like the UK or Czech, you probably don't realize you can only stay for 90 days.  And since the US doesn't have an exit immigration check, you may think staying over 90 days will be undetected.  But exit tracking is done by the information you submit to the airlines.

Well, they know too, but I meant my future daughter-in-law's family. They are good friends since we've known them since the kids were in HS. She told them, with my permission, and her mom said, "Oh, that makes sense."

What you are referring to is called "pass through" deposit insurance, which is how balances held on prepaid debit cards, services like Venmo and PayPal, and non-bank Fintechs such as Chime are insured. Wise does not work like that. Per their Customer Agreement,
"...Holding A Balance in your Borderless Account
Wise is not a bank and your Borderless Account is not a bank account.  The specified bank account details that we provide to you in order for you to receive funds from third parties are for accounts held by Wise and its affiliates (and we will credit your Borderless Account, which is held by us, upon receipt of such funds), and are not for a bank account held by you. Value held as a balance in your Borderless Account represents an unsecured claim against Wise and is not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) or any other deposit protection scheme. Wise invests balances held by its customers in permissible investments in accordance with state money transmitter laws. Wise owns the interest or other earnings on these investments, if any. Wise does not use balances held by its customers for operating expenses or other corporate purposes and will not voluntarily make such funds available to its creditors in the event of bankruptcy. For further information on how we look after your money, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page..."
Searching for "safeguarding" on the website lead to this:

Despite their claim of providing "radical transparency," they don't list the institutions that hold their funds in the US. Not that it matters, as they don't offer pass-through deposit insurance.
Regarding their being a publicly-traded company, Citibank, Bank of America, and Washington Mutual were all long-standing institutions that were traded on public stock exchanges at the time of their failures. Citi and BofA received "open bank assistance" (i.e. a bailout from the FDIC) to remain open and WaMu was seized and sold to JP Morgan Chase. In all three of these cases, routine business continued. If Wise becomes insolvent there will be no rescue.
If you are using Wise to maintain a small (i.e. less than $1K) balance while on a trip, they might be worth the risk assuming you are comfortable with their fees and the hassle of maintaining one more bank-like account. I haven't done an analysis, but I suspect their total fees and the fees charged for non-US transactions by a US bank probably end up being the same or similar.

I have had a WISE account and card.  I found it an easy way to get a Euro denominated bank account when I needed on.  After that need ended, I didn’t find it that useful.  The Schwab checking account referenced by another poster is what I use instead.

Getting a WISE ATM card wasn’t easy a few years ago for Americans but that may have changed.  I think it was a pilot program or trial back then.

Ugh.  I hate to think I was played.  At the end of the day, I guess I need to feel like I did my best and did not behave unethically. I did book an appointment.  He was relying on that income - and although it wasn't my fault - I did have to cancel.  That being said, I will not engage him ever again... And it's great to know from the boards that my actions were not out of line.

Does Malik show up on a regular basis, or just occasionally?
I wish I could remember which dancer made someone cry after a private dance.  Can't be sure, but it looked like the customer didn't set a dance limit and racked up a huge bill unintentionally, and then had to tell his boyfriend about it.

I think WestGuy makes some good points but I would consider texting the provider to give him a heads up that you found out this info.  Seems like you found out in an innocent way and not being stalker-ish.  Also tell him while you can’t cancel the meeting due to the timing, you made a decision and that is …. .
You did nothing wrong here so no reason to not be upfront.

For awhile hiring valet parking service for parties was a thing in our neighborhood. There was plenty of street parking so it just seemed like showing off. Then the crooks figured it out and they'd set up a parking service and then make off with the cars.

Colton reacted to + BenjaminNicholas in Which male medical/cosmetic procedures are actually worth it?
Depending on how deep that scarring is, IPL would take many treatments.
Look into BBL or go with something more invasive, but effective, like Halo laser or CO2 laser treatments.
As for NYC derms/plastics to see, there are a ton of qualified people out there. Do NOT go to a 'med spa' for this kind of procedure.  It's a truly dumb idea.
Research on RealSelf (app and website) to figure out who's the best doc for you to consult with.

I got a tummy tuck three years after being overweight my whole life. Was 245 lbs at my biggest and now I’m about 130 lbs. I couldn’t loose the stomach flab from excess skin and decided to do the surgery. The recovery part was not fun and I have a big scar, but I don’t regret any of it at all because it makes me feel better.  Want to try other procedures too, but always think about recovery, money, and the worth of it.
