No one identified as gay in my chapter but it was pretty clear (thanks to Gaydar) who actually was. One guy was discovered because he ended up with nude layouts in Blueboy, Men and some other gay magazines. I ran into a few brothers at gay clubs after graduation. This was in the early 90’s.

Wondering as well. I’ve seen his ad for a few years and always get reminded he is in Long Beach when I click on his ads.

Hi, curious to know if anyone has booked a masseur who advertises of Adam4Adam in the Los Angeles area and if you had success finding massage therapists who are trained?  It’s easy to spit the posts who are just looking to hook up, but not sure about some of the other posts. Typically use rentmasseur or masseurfinder, but curious to know about A4A.

Good idea about doing an extra rinse cycle. I didn’t even think about that! I have sensitive skin as well and use Tide Free and Gentle. I also use 1/2 the recommended amount

I have lived here for more than 30 years.  The only place I have ever felt unsafe was in the Hayes Valley neighborhood before they took out the Central Freeway.  Nothing bad ever happened to me, but it was spooky after dark.
The Tenderloin has gotten so crumby and seedy that I don't even like to drive through it - at any time of day or night.
Yes, there are plenty of homeless everywhere and I could imagine someone feeling at least a little uncomfortable who has never been around  such large numbers of them.   And they can be intimidating because they are so angry and so miserable.
It's still a great town though.

I live just south of Market, not far from city hall.  I'd say that San Francisco has declined significantly in many neighborhoods.  I still generally feel safe walking around during the day, but sometimes I do encounter someone who is either in some sort of mental health breakdown or active substance use reaction that makes them act aggressively.  It's definitely best to pay attention to your surroundings and do something simple like cross the street if your sense is that someone ahead of you is agitated.  That being said, it isn't like residents or visitors are being attacked left-and-right so I don't want to create an inaccurate picture that this is an incredibly dangerous place to be.
I do think that burglaries -- particularly auto break-ins -- are out of control.  That really isn't anything new here, though; it's just even worse than it used to be.  If you rent a car for your visit, you must remember to never leave anything in your car.  Don't even leave an empty bag or something of minimal value.  If someone who is inclined to "smash and grab" sees something in your car, they will break your window and snatch your item first, and then just toss it if it's worthless.  They don't care that they caused hundreds of dollars of damage only to find out that they stole your dirty gym clothes.

As usual, always be aware of your surroundings and walk with purpose and confidence. Don't let fear sabotage your visit.
A few years ago, I wanted to walk thru the notorious Tenderloin during a visit. Imagine my surprise when a map check revealed it to be just a couple very short blocks from the safety and security of tourist-clogged Union Square and the St Francis Hotel!

You're too generous. I think untrained guys advertise on rentmasseur so they can charge escorts rates for a lackluster massage/hand job. If they're into the client, the client gets an escort experience. If not....

I had just moved into my first city apartment. I went out to find a store, in midday. On the street, I passed an attractive young man, we glanced at one another, smiled, and said hello. We stopped and chatted for a few minutes, and I mentioned that I had a new bed and needed to break it in. A half hour later we were in it. We ended up living together for four years.

I agree @Jarrod_Uncut that it's really hard for a gay guy to try and meet guys to either just be friends with, go on a date with, or try and hookup with in a non gay setting. I asked one guy out at my last job who I totally thought was gay but he said he was actually bisexual and not really into guys much at all. So that felt weird then. You don't wanna be hitting on a straight guy because you don't know how people are going to react then. You said you dress "approachable" to give off hints. My one friend has a little gay pride necklace that he wears. Maybe get something like that? I was thinking about one but I'm not a jewelry guy and I also don't really need or want everyone I come into contact with to know I'm gay. Just don't think everyone needs to know.

Antonio1981 reacted to CJK in My Grandmother's Attitude Towards Gay Men
Thought others might find this story about my grandmother and gay men interesting. She was considered pretty liberal in her thinking, but things have changed so much that now she would be canceled...
In the eighties my grandmother began suffering dementia. In late May 1986 she moved into an assisted living facility with around the clock personal care. Thanksgiving week was the first time I was able to visit. She was sitting in the lobby when I got there. After quickly saying hello, I excused myself to go to the bathroom. In that brief moment I noticed her hair was a disaster. It was dyed its usual fake blond in the front but undyed in the back where she could not see. There was a small salon next to the men's room where this abomination must have happened.
When I returned to my grandmother and her aide in the lobby a man came over. He may have been the most flamboyant man I've ever met. He said how much they enjoyed having my grandmother living there. When he walked away, I asked who he was. My grandmother said he is the hairdresser. I laughed to myself thinking he was responsible for my grandmother's hair.
Fast forward to 1992. My grandmother was moving to a nursing home. My sister, mom, two aunts and I were packing up her apartment and the flamboyant man stopped by to visit like he did every time one of us was there. He said they would miss her and we should still stop by to visit. When he left I said the obvious - he cannot do hair worth crap but the facility was lucky to have a hairdresser who cared about the patents so much. Suddenly the four women were staring at me. My aunt asked, "A what?" I repeated myself. My aunt said, "He is not a hairdresser, he is the director. What made you think he is a hairdresser?" My response, "Grandma told me." To which my aunt said, "He is a gay man. Your grandmother thinks all gay men are hairdressers!"

If they have long, sharp or ragged fingernails. Same goes for toenails.
I like men who take pride in their appearance and have very good personal hygiene as I do.

First time I felt old was when I realized I was invisible in various settings I used to enjoy; and that invisibility resulted in going to pubs/clubs less frequently, learning to differentiate between "friends" and people I could rely on, and learning to enjoy time with myself.

I learned something from your asking the question about where the private gyms are located.
I had gone with friends to those gyms more than ten years ago and knew those gyms had been in business many years.
I looked up the address for the gym in LA and the Valley.
To my surprise, after 52 years of being in business, both gyms closed because of the covid virus.
Here is a link an an article that will tell you a little about the now defunct gyms:
