Studio One Opened 48 Years Ago Today

I went there before I was even of legal drinking age. Many a man did I pick up there, when I was young and charming. 😄 I was crushed when I heard it closed. "Chris" told me it was briefly re-opened about 2 years ago for a ceremony before being completely torn down (he attended the ceremony). They really didn't want women there. They had a policy of "no open toed shoes," which they thinly disguised as a "safety" policy. And if you looked straight, they had a sign out front stating that 3 government-issued photo ID's were needed! 😬

Fond memories paying a cover charge for an hour or more of feeling inadequate!

I get that! There were so many super beautiful guys there. They stood around looking beautiful for the most part, but towards 2 am they went for sex.

Some of these stand and model guys were absolutely beautiful. I think their standoffishness was to keep the multitudes away.

I once went to a bar with a super beautiful man and it was awful how people threw themselves at him and said the stupidest things.

Reminds me of the West Hollywood Athletic Club, which didn't even have a Women's Locker room!

Is that the same as the 3rd St. Athletic Club?

One of the best-looking men I ever had sex with picked me up in front of Studio One after closing.  He walked up to me, said 'You want to come over to my place?" I said yes and he took me home to his cute little bungalow in West Hollywood.

Fortunately, being invisible to younger men doesn't bother me.  I just accept it as the way of the world.  Some of our friends are really bothered by it.  When they start complaining, I don't say anything, but I think "You've known this day was coming since you were in your 20s, why didn't you prepare better?"

Now they'll be trying to find him on Grindr and sending him pics of their best asset!

So that's it.  I think it was summer of '75 that I was there.  I walked in and was astounded at this sea of handsome men everywhere I looked.

It's where all the pornstars worked out.

I couldn't afford a membership when I moved here, so I joined 24 hour Fitness, formerly the Sports Erection, which was fine.  I was a member up until last December, 2021, when it closed.

However, during a break at a sex party (QED) in 1998 I was talking to the beefier, sexier, half of the odyssey twins, https://www.xvideos.com/video5286502/twins-2_the_odyssey_twins_gabriel_and_oscar   .  He worked out there, and of course loved it, and I complained I couldn't afford a membership.  He told me his friend, also in Porn, Falcon, was moving back to Barcelona and was trying to sell his membership for the whole year for only $100; SOLD!  Think about that.  People took care of each other to such a degree then that a gym allowed you to own your membership, and sell it to someone else.  Very much doubt Equinox would be so flexible.

It was a great gym.  Very sexual atmosphere, apart from the actual sex that was going on there.

The coffee was free, or a quarter. You didn't have to wear a shirt when you worked out (that was a big plus for me, feels much better that way), and you could wear sandals without people telling you how dangerous it is to lift weights while wearing sandals.

And we were all young, even those who were old, and everyone but me was on steroids, and we'd workout 2 hours a day, nearly every day.  Real working out, not just going to the gym and chatting, but hitting the weights hard day after day.  And I had a full time job in addition to escorting, so I have no idea how I found the time.  Goddam we looked good.

I barely fooled around there, too focused on exercise.  But we'd plan sex parties, large and small at our apartments, Hollywood Hills homes, and Malibu Beach Houses.

And then,  It closed.  I went the morning it closed, not knowing he'd gone bankrupt, nobody knew, and the door was locked, and Gold's Gym representatives were out front passing out 7-day free passes.  Once, I went to Hollywood Gold's to try it out.  Too far to drive, too Body Builder oriented.

Fun place.

I wonder if we're talking about the same place - the 3rd Street Athletic Club, as I remember it, was a bathhouse.  It was long enough ago that most people don't even remember it.

You didn't read the articles I posted :-)  No, this gym was on SMB.

Was the address 8703 3d St? I remember the bath house. I once took a friend there but he was refused entry for being too old. He was 46.

(8703 just rings a bell, It may have been different.)

There was a very popular bathhouse that I never got to called the 8709.  I wonder if the 3rd Street Athletic Club was a predecessor to the 8709?  You're right.  They were really fussy who they let in.   I got in because a guy in line, who was a regular, said to me, "Just pretend we're friends."  They let me right in.
