I beg to differ. Sometimes the simplest answers -- even if it's not what one expects to hear -- is often the right one. I know plenty of people who got piercings and multiple tattoos because they wanted to. No trauma in their lives. No knuckling under to peer pressure. They wanted to be pierced and tattooed.

I feel your outrage. The current HIV meds are the most sophisticated drugs there are. Those of us can remember the early days when the only medication was AZT which caused more health issues than it may have resolved. I had a former boyfriend who was taking DDI. His body dysmorphia was advancing every time I saw him in the form of a gigantic pot belly and dorsal fat deposit.
There is no such thing as taking an HIV med break. What you do is risk building a resistance to the medication. You'd be back on the rollercoaster of switching meds to find one that is tolerable and effective.
We are our own worst enemy.

The people I know who are positive and undetectable would never, ever go off their meds.

Give your body a break?  It's the meds that are suppressing the disease.  Makes zero sense.
Fact: When you stop taking your meds, HIV begins to replicate as soon as 48-72 hours.
What's even more stupid is risking building an immunity to the meds that once worked when you go off your regime.  HIV is an incredibly smart disease.  It fills in the blanks beautifully when given the opportunity.  It's one of many things that continues to make this a very difficult disease to pin down and eradicate.
Sorry if any of this came off as angry...  Not mad at you @EZEtoGRU.  Just mad at the idiots who are given a chance to live a relatively normal life thanks to medical science and they still find a way to try to fuck it up.

I've always heard and believed that a person shows his true character based on how he treats waiters, call center workers, or anyone in the service industry. If you dine with someone who is complaining, persnickety, and ready to stiff a waiter on a tip for no reason at all, you can rest assured you've met an unkind person.

I prefer BFE. I suppose it's because I go into the encounter with my eyes (and possibly other things) wide open. Classic excuses that do not hold up under unbiased examination. Besides, pregnancy is not the same as contracting HIV. Pregnancy may bring a life into the world. HIV, however, can remove a life or several lives from it. And proper application of a condom and using adequate lubrication can address your examples of what could go wrong with a condom. Abstinence is the sure-fire method to prevent any STD contraction, but abstinence is unrealistic for most people.

In any case, do not allow U = U to lull you into a false sense of complacency. Regardless of his status, you must use a condom if you plan on any sex involving exchange of bodily fluids. You, and you alone, are responsible for maintaining your well-being.
