USA Customs Isssues with hiring providers?

I am from Canada, and I plannend a trip at the end of the month to go to SF for folsom and Seattle to meet with a provide for deli fun.

I had it all booked and now I am reading a sudden increase of phone searches during customs due to this administration. My phone is filled with conversations with providers, hook up apps, links to this site, RM, and search history. I know I can scrub it but I really don't want to spend that much time and deleting numbers of providers I like. what is the chances of me getting phone searched and banned ??

People are also saying that because I am darker skinned there are higher risk they will. Now I am really questioning this trip and maybe wait. Ugh, any thoughts?

I know millions of people travel to the states but what if  I am the one that gets randomly searched at customs.

Why not just leave your phone at home and travel with a burner phone for this trip?

My rule is never to keep anything in my phone that I do not want to be found. Cellphones get lost, stolen and to your point, there has ALWAYS been the possibility of having your phone searched at customs.

This isn't always practical since we store all our s*** on it.  Who really remembers all their passwords?  The one u need is the one u will not recall when u be need it.  Our phones have made us dumb and addicted. The chance is low. The risk isn’t jail it’s getting banned from entry. Given the low risk, can you live with that, in the unlikely event it happens? If no, then back-up your phone. Wipe it clean. Restore when you get back to Canada.

I am not that motivated to log into a bunch of different sites when I'm on vacation.  I could memorize the ones I will need.  Also, you could always either send yourself emails with password hints so you can then check your email after going through immigration.

I do think traveling internationally is a bigger risk for providers than clients since they might be identified by facial recognition software and then more heavily scrutinized.  Finding one piece of information that indicates an intent to work after entering the country is enough to deny entry.

I think this is the case. They’re looking for intent to work without authorization, so it’s the providers who have more to worry about.

I keep flipping back and forth, I am stoked in going and then moments, crap, I am gonna be the unlucky one where they go through my phone and see all my anti trump stuff on my social media and contacts with providers and ban me.

However, right now unfortunately I am leaning towards not going. It is not worth the risk and have it flagged on my profile. Probably better to go when the political climate is less hostile. 

I also travelling solo. I also want to go with someone to folsom so if I plan for in the future I might have more fun.

I always thought the chance of them searching your phone AND then finding your messages to an escort/client AND then reading everything incriminating was so remote I never worried about it. 
 

They have real things to do like catch drug smugglers, human traffickers and other nefarious actors. They’re not interested in some guy coming in and getting their nut off.

With the trade wars, thet have been profiling asians more often, my cousin got stopped. He went in a group of 4 out 6 asians. 3/6 asians were searched for a few hours. He was luckily able to get on the flight. 

Unfortunately rhe other three they were there so long they missed it. its so unfortunate. 

So im just getting a little anxious. I then look up online and see so much fear mongering. But .. im like, so many people travel there whats the chances. Then, in go, ugh im gonna be the unlucky one. Especially since im an asian going for leisure instead of business. 

 

So torn!

The chance of it happening is less than 0.01 percent. But still there. And with the current political climate and racial profillng ill be the 0.01 percent that happens. And do I wanna really support the states right now, nah. 

Folsom and providers will still be there. Ill go when I feel better about it and less anxious.

One has to keep in mind that DHS/border patrol are our nations gatekeepers. They have very broad discretion as to who may or may not enter our country. Fair or not, there is no appeal process for a foreigner. 

Here is a case of a straight female from Canada who broke no laws, but was still banned indefinitely from entering the United States because border agents determined she was visiting her American boyfriend too frequently:

And you can also be questioned if you are an American citizen.

An American lawyer was randomly stooped at Dulles International returning from an overseas trip for routine questioning. His cell phone was confiscated, but he refused to provide his password to DHS. His and his wife's Global Entry privileges were revoked.

Circling back to the original post, anyone entering the US for the purpose of paying $$ for sex or earning $$ as an escort should be prepared to have their electronic devices examined, especially if it is the latter.

Something similar happened to a hot Austrian escort who was coming to NYC (posted on rentman) and  had corresponded with me on whatsapp. He was turned back the same day he landed without exiting the airport. I had an appointment with him but he texted me when he was in purgatory and said that his travel visa was revoked and he could not enter again. Sigh... i will have to go to Vienna to visit him.

It seems like he was randomly searched. Found prep and other stuff and then started looking at his phone and found out about his career and escorting.

They found evidence on his phone that he was an escort.  So they viewed him as a provider.  I think he's relying on the argument that the money is for companionship only, which isn't really very compelling.

It's also hard for me to understand why, after the initial grilling which caused him to miss his initial flight (remember this is all happening at US customs preclearance in Toronto), he returned the next day to try again with a phone which contained evidence of escorting.

Exactly!
First he lied to the US border agents by telling them he wasn't a paid escort and didn't work in the United States (even though he had a current RM ad running and filmed dozens of porn videos here). He missed his flight, but they allowed him allowed to go home and he was booked on the first flight out to Las Vegas the next day. He returned the next day and was questioned again. They searched his phone (why he didn't wipe his phone clean is a mystery), and found all of the evidence they needed that he was an escort who provided sex for pay. He lied to them again, incredulously claiming that he was paid merely for "companionship".  He was given a 10-year ban.
